You may be aware that Oracle recently migrated all Sun-branded certification exams from Prometric to Pearson VUE. Below are answers to some frequently-asked questions that we've been getting recently:
What changes to the exams should I be aware of?
Only minor changes were made to the exams during the transition to Pearson VUE:
The exam objectives and the exam questions themselves did not change. Candidates should study the same material and objectives.
Are there also new testing practices I should be aware of?
Oracle
follows a common industry practice of placing occasional un-scored
questions on our certification exams. Candidates will not know which
questions are unscored. At the time of this blog post, only one of the
migrated exams (1Z0-898) contains unscored questions.
I
started the Master certification path through Prometric, and now I need
to complete the requirements through Pearson VUE. Where can I get
guidance on this process?
Visit our Vendor Transition FAQs
to find comprehensive instructions. Oracle has created several specific
paths to accommodate candidates who were at at varying stages of
completion of their master path when the transition occurred. Make sure
to follow the specific path designed for your case, as you will need to
know which exam number to select in order to submit/re-submit your
requirements.

I want know is the drag and drop cancelled or no??
thanks
Ramy, Are you referring to a single exam in which you want to know what format the questions are in? I'm curious about this drag and drop question. If you are familiar with the material and are prepared for the exam, does it matter in what format the questions are presented? If I were you, I would focus more on studying than on what question format you'll see of the exam. Regards,
Brandye Barrington
Hi Ramy
A colleague of mine just passed the test yesterday.
and one of the things he mentioned was that the drag&drop questions ARE dropped.

guest
@Brandye Barrington: If I were you (Oracle), I would focus more on respecting the candidates (by honoring the score system in the assignments, honoring the time used to grade those assignments, identifying the PearsonVure migration risks and anticipating them, etc.) than on changing certification politics without any logic!
Dear Guest,
Could you please be more specific? Could you provide more information around what your issues are so that perhaps we can assist.
Regards,
Brandye Barrington
Uhmm I don't know what kind of issues this migration involve. At first sight it doesn't seem to be a very complicated thing. The CertView front page warns that the process was expected to be completed about mid June.
I think that this delay is completely unacceptable. I need to send my credentials for a new job-position offer and instead I have to explain that Oracle is not able to do things on time. Long life to SUN.
Unnacceptable delay to access CertView. I need to send my credentials!. My last comments were censored. Why?.
Lohengrin,
We are testing to ensure that all the records are uploaded and that the tool is functioning properly. I'm not aware of any comments being censored. We typically only censor comments that appear to be spam, or contain inappropriate content (which is extremely rare). If your comments were censored, we apologize. That is not typical. Regarding your certification, you can contact suncert_ww@oracle.com and request for them to email confirmation of your certification(s) to a 3rd party. Please provide your Oracle Testing ID (Prometric ID) as well as the certification(s) you want to verify and the email address of the person to whom we should verify.
Regards,
Brandye Barrington
We apologize for the delay in Sun Certification history being available in CertView. If candidates need to access their logos or request certification be validated to a 3rd party, they can contact suncert_ww@oracle.com and the customer service team will assist.
Regards,
Brandye Barrington
I mailed my all details on suncert_ww@oracle.com because i am unable to access my account on integral7 but havn't got any response yet....
i need my kit urgently so could you please help me out??
waiting for reply and thanks in advance
Dear Guest,
Integral 7 Is no longer available. You should be able to access your certification history later this week or early next week at certview.oracle.com. The records are not yet available, but will be soon. The release of this data on CertView will be announced on this blog. Please allow 3 business days for a response from suncert_ww@oracle.com. You should allow 6-8 weeks to receive your success kit from the time you completed your final certification requirement. The suncert_ww customer service team should be able to assist better than I, as they will have your identifying information and will be able to look at your account. You should hear back from them very soon.
Regards,
Brandye Barrington
Hi! I can see my cert status on the certview page, but the 45 days time frame will expire next friday. Up till NOW, I've not received my OCPJP 6.0 certficate. I'm worried with the delay, what should I do?
If you have not received your success kit within 6-8 weeks of completing your final certification requirement, you can contact Oracle Certification Support http://bit.ly/f39Dny. They will be able to assist.

Hi:
0. I've downloaded my SCEA/OCMJEA assignment last December (2010). Only a "minimum score to pass the exam" was stated in the text.
1. Do you know about any changes (from January, 2011 to July, 2011) that stated not only a "minimum score to pass the exam" but a "minimum section score" too?
Thx in advance!
I am checking in to this.
Regards,
Brandye Barrington
Hi,
Is there a way to find out how many questions were attempted by a candidate and any breakup for the exam taken? Is there are customer support number that we can call for any issues during the exam?
Thanks.
No info about "minimum section scores"? Thx!
what is difference between 1Z0-858 and 1Z0-894 ?thanks
If you experience issues during the exam, you should receive support from the test center staff. I believe that your score report will show how many questions you attempted and how many you missed. If you need a copy of your score report, you can print one at www.pearsonvue.com/oracle>Print Score Report.
Regarding scoring on the Architect assignment and essay:
You will receive a single score for parts 2 and 3.
Below are the sections of the assignment and points available per section with a minimum score per section if it is a required section to pass.
Minimum score to pass the exam, if passing required sections, is 114. If a person fails any of the required sections Component, Class, Deployment or Question, then it is an automatic failure regardless of the final score. We will only post a pass or fail. If you fail, we will let you know which sections need improvement in order to pass so you do not have to focus on all sections with your re-submission.
Points Minimum Pass
Component Diagram 40 26
Class Diagram 40 26
Deployment Diagram 24 17
Interaction Diagrams 16 0
Risk & Mitigation List 16 0
Part 3 Short Answer 24 17
Total 160
Regarding difference between exams 858 and 894, on the most basic level, one is EE5 and one is EE6. You can view the differences in what is covered on each exam by reviewing the exam topics for each exam. 894 exam topics = http://bit.ly/nkDuVJ; 858 exam topics = http://bit.ly/ovixe2.

@Brandye Barrington: Regarding scoring on the SCEA/OCMJEA assignment and essay, is this policy retroactive?
Thank you.
The new scoring of the assignment and essay are not retroacive. If you have already received a score, your score stands.
Regards,
Brandye Barrington
Hi. The SCEA/OCMJEA assignment I bought last December did NOT mention anything about "required sections minimum score" (only an overall minimum score to pass). Do I have to care? (but I've purchased the assignment PRIOR to the introduction of this policy).
Thanks.
Guest,
Actually, I have done some checking and the scoring has not changed from Sun to Oracle. This is the way that assignments have been scored for quite some time. However, if you look at the assignment score logically, each section would have to hold some weight. If someone fails an entire section of the assignment, how could he expect to become certified? So, all assignments are scored the same. When asked if the scoring policy was retroactive, I interpreted the question to mean that if an assignment had already been scored, were we going to go back and re-score them.

I started the SCEA training in januari 2011. It was still prometric at the time. About 8 weeks ago i went through the whole administrative tour to get a voucher for pearson etc etc.. More than 6 weeks ago i have uploaded part II and taken part III. I read all sort of stuff but several stuff i don't know what to think off.
-> Part II is not shown in Oracle/certview
-> I have never received a confirmation mail that my assignment has been sent for grading... (been more than 6 weeks now..)
-> Created a ticket at oracle for this but never ever received a reponse.
What can i do to at least receive a small amount of info so that i know everything has correctly been sumbitted...
Part II and III are visible at Pearsonvue, part I and III are visible at Oracle/Certview.
Thanks.
Guest, Part II is probably not visible in CertView because the grading has not yet been completed. If you submitted the assignment through Pearson VUE, you can have a look at your exam history in your Pearson VUE account and the assignment status will show as 'Scheduled.' This means that it has been submitted for grading. Once the grading is complete, it will show as 'Delivered' and the grade will show as 'taken.'
When you created a ticket for Oracle Certification Support, did you use this support form http://bit.ly/f39Dny, or did you submit an email to suncert_ww@oracle.com. Through either of those methods, you should receive a response within 3 business days. If you have not yet received a response, submit another ticket, referencing your original ticket number, stating how many business days you've been awaiting a response and ask for an urgent update.
Regards,
Brandye Barrington
I finished my IZ0-853 exam today and the candidate name in the score sheet has a spelling mistake. What is the procedure to make the changes before the certificate is generated?
Thanks in advance
You will need to check your name in your Pearson VUE profile at pearsonvue.com/oracle. If your name is correct in your Pearson VUE profile, it will be printed correctly on your certificate. If it is not correct in your Pearson VUE profile, you should contact Pearson VUE right away pearsonvue.com/oracle/contact and request to have your name updated. You will likely have to provide copies of official identification.

Hi,
I would like to know about the SCJP IZO-851 exam. I am planning to attempt the exam next week, but not sure about the exam details. (72questions/210minutes or 60questions/150minutes)
What is the total time and total number of questions? What is the passing score? Are Drag and drop questions still there? what changes were made in June/july 2011?
Please confirm the above questions.
Thank you
Shweta
Hi Shweta,
You can find all the information you need on our website at certification.oracle.com. At the top of the page, you will see an 'Exams' tab. Click on this and then click on 'ALL EXAMS.' You will find a link to this exam on the ALL EXAMS page.

Hi Brandye
I would like to know till what period the version 6 of OCPJP exam is available as I am new to java and also version 7 has a lot of advancement to the language itself.
I am interested in taking up OCPJP 6, kindly provide me with some guidelines.
THX
At this time, we do not have a retirement plan for SE 6 of Java Programmer. If you prefer to obtain version 6 of the certification, you can do that and then upgrade to SE 7 later.
Regards,
Brandye Barrington
Hello Brandye
How are you doin'
Well, I have few clarifications about the OCPJP6,
1. For OCPJP6 is Associate exam mandatory?
2. The validity period of the certificate for OCPJP6?
3. Till what period the OCPJP6 is available as I am planning to take up exam the march/april.
4. Any good reference materials to prepare?
THX
Hi Brandye
till what period the OCPJP6 is available as I am planning to take up this exam this march/april
TIA
1. For OCPJP6 is Associate exam mandatory?
[ANSWER]:For the SE 6 version, associate is not a mandatory pre-requisite for OCP. For the SE 7 version, OCA is mandatory.
2. The validity period of the certificate for OCPJP6?
[ANSWER]Oracle certifications do not expire. So, of you obtain the certification, you will keep it forever. It may become less relevant as time goes on and newer and newer versions are released, but it will not expire.
3. Till what period the OCPJP6 is available as I am planning to take up exam the march/april.
[ANSWER]At this time, we do not have a retirement plan for the SE 6 version exams. We typically give at least 3 months notice for retirements, so I don't see any problem with the exams being retired before you wish to take them.
4. Any good reference materials to prepare?
[ANSWER]Please see the exam details pages on our website at certification.oracle.com. On these pages, you will find recommended training and links to practice exams. You can also visit our Certification Forum http://bit.ly/oDYL8C and ask how others prepared for the exams - suggested books, etc.
Regards,
Brandye Barrington
Tia,
There is no retirement plan yet for the Java Programmer SE 6 exam. We typically allow at least 3 months for a retirement, so the March/April time frame would be fine. I doubt this exam will retire very soon.

Brandye Barrington
Hi Brandye
I am planning to take up OCPJP6 Exam by may this year, does this happen to work?
since I am working towards with Java6 exam 7 is in... will the OCPJP6 available till then
please guide.
Thank you.
At this time, we have no retirement plans for the SE 6 version of this certification. Typically, we announce retirements with at least 3 months lead time, so you should be fine pursuing the SE 6 version of this certification.

Hello Mr Barrington
I have a question about Java Exam, is J2SE version 5 exam still available
under Oracle?
Hi Brad,
There are still Java SE 5 certifications available http://bit.ly/in5k.

Hi,
Just wanted to know whether exam 1z0-858 is having "drag and drop" questions or not?
Regards,
Ankit Tripathi
Hi Ankit,
This exam is multiple choice.

Brandye Barrington
Hi Brandye,
For the exam 1Z0-851, Oracle Certified Professional-Java SE 6 Programmer what will be the question type ? "multiple choice" or "drag and drop or the both.
Hi Brandye,
I am preparing for the exam 1Z0-851 OCPJP 6, so my question is whether there will be "drag and drop" question or only multiple choice question ?
Hi Brandye,
For the exam Oracle Certified Professional, Java SE 6 Programmer, is there any "drag and drop" questions or not?
There are no drag and drop questions on the 851 exam. The questions are all multiple choice.
I have to wonder though, if this question continues to come up because people have copies of older exams. Using copies of exams or brain dumps to prepare for exams is cheating. If we have a suspicion that a candidate is cheating on an exam, we will do everything in our power to prove it and to remove certification from the candidate.
I am certainly not accusing the askers of cheating, but I'm always curious why this question comes up so often, and I want to be sure that everyone knows that using dumps is cheating.

Brandye Barrigton
I just recently did the 1Z0-851: Java Standard Edition 6 Programmer Certified Professional Exam and i am now wondering when i can hope for the delivery of the actual certificate? I would have expected an email after the successfull test - but no. Nothing.
Hello Kaviedes,
You do not receive an email notification when you pass the exam. You can visit certview.oracle.com to view the status of your certification. If you have completed all requirements, you can expect to receive your certificate within 6-8 weeks. It is usually quicker, but we ask that you allow up to 8 weeks to allow for international deliveries.

Brandye Barrington
I wonder what is the official acronym title to be used for a person who passed Java 6 SE Certification. I can't find any instruction from oracle except by the IMAGE logo. And I don't want to make up acronyms, would like something official.
Is it: Jon Doe, OCPJP ?
or Jon Doe, OCPJP 6
or do I must use registered trademark? Jon Doe, OCPJP® ?
I know I can use the full version:
Jon Doe, Oracle Certified Programmer Java Professional 6
But that's too long.
Hi Mike,
There are no official acronyms. The standard in the field is OCJP.

Brandye Barrington
Hello.
I am preparing for OCJP certification. All my friends and I have confusions. WHAT IS THE LATEST TEST PATTERN? What is it named as?
1z0-851/310-065(The material which we are referring to) or something else?
We really are not bothered about the exam pattern. But we would like to know what it is called as.
Not really sure if could study the same contents present in 310-065 if the exam now is named as 1z0-851. Is there any change in the actual contents present in 065? Should we study any other material to cover up 851?
Really confused. This confusion started when one of our friends looked at our book named as Exam 310-065 and said it was changed.
Please help me.
Date: 24 April 2013.
Thank you.
Guest
The Oracle exam 1Z0-851 did not change much from the Sun version of the exam 310-065, when it was re-branded as an Oracle exam. You should visit the exam page https://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=5001&get_params=p_exam_id:1Z0-851&p_org_id=&lang= and have a look at the exam topics, comparing those topics to your book.

There is a prometric center Sannihitha Technologies & Management Solutions in Hyderabad ,AP, India , contact no 8099754435 who offer to give a OCPJP certificate even if you DO NOT know java. They offer help and assistance while writing the exam.
IN THIS CASE WHEN CERTIFICATES ARE UP FOR SALE THEN WHAT IS THE USE .
Actually, Oracle is the only company that provides Oracle Certification certificates. Training partners do not even have access to logos and certificate files for Oracle Certifications.
Are you saying that this company is providing Oracle training certificates without candidates having completed the course?
Please send an email to ocpfraud_ww@oracle.com with as many details as possible. If you have received communication from them, please provide that info. This way it will be easier for us to address the issue.
Thanks,
Brandye Barrington

If you registered on the Pearson VUE website, you should have selected your time and location at the time of registration. If you need assistance with this, please contact Pearson VUE.

test. Why do you not allow all comments?
We do allow most comments. From time to time, there is a delay in checking and approving comments and from time to time a comment may be missed, but there are not many comments that we do not allow. We do not allow spam and we delete any duplicate comments.

ok, thank you, i'll try again:
Could you please tell me if the exam specifies for the multiple choice questions the exact number of correct answers that need to be chosen?
For example if a question has 'ABD' as a correct answer, are we being told to choose three checkboxes? Or do we just get a general 'choose all that apply' version?
Typically, if you can select multiple options you will be instructed to 'choose two' or 'choose three'. However, I cannot say that this is the case every time. There may be some 'choose all that apply' items included.
Regards,
Brandye Barrington
ok, i understand, thank you, and could there be questions that have no solution? Meaning that even if there are 5 multiple choice answers for a question none of them are correct? So that the correct solution would be choosing none of them?
Hi,
I am currently preparing for Java SE 6 Programmer Certified Professional (1Z0-851). I am planning to give the exam by December 2014 end.
Would like to have your suggestion on these 2 points,
1. Is there any likelihood for this exam (1Z0-851) to get retired sooner or later ?
2. I hope it does nt get retired atleast until Feb 2015, just incase if I need an additional 1 or 2 months before giving the exam.
Thanks & Regards.
There will always be an answer to select. If none of the provided solutions are correct, there will be an option something like "None of the above."
____________________________________
- There is no current plan to retire the Java SE 6 Programmer certification. Typicall, when we announce a retirement, we give 6 months notice. The Java SE 5 Programmer certification is still available. Typically, that version would be retired before the 6 version would be considered for retirement.
- I doubt that it will retire before Feb 2015.

Hi all,
I am trying to prepare 1Z0-899 (OCEJWCD 6). May I know, Is having "drag and drop" questions or not for it.
Thanks.
I believe that all questions are multiple choice. However, the format of the questions shouldn't determine how you prepare for the exams.

You can purchase a voucher from Oracle, or you can register and pay directly at pearsonvue.com/oracle.
