In May 2017, CIO.com published the first of a two-part series highlighting the fastest growing and highest paying certified and noncertified tech skills at 3,038 U.S. and Canadian employers. For our purposes, we'll focus on the certified skills. Two Oracle Certifications are listed in the top 3 of this list.
Why is this important to you? Certified folks could be leaving money on the table. Increasingly, companies are offering 'skills pay,' which is extra money paid to individuals with specific, in demand skills. Competition is tight in the IT hiring market now. Employers are keen to hire and retain top talent, but lagging pay scales and the snail's pace of corporate changes may prevent some companies from offering competitive compensation. This is where paying a premium for certain, desirable skills comes in. David Foote, author of the post, explains how this may work.
Foote highlights 30 certifications that have recorded the highest gains in cash market value pay premiums in the six months ending April 1, 2017. These have grown between 17% and 35% in value in this period.
Oracle Certified Master - Java EE Enterprise Architect and Oracle Certified Professional - DBA (OCP) tie with Red Hat Certified System Administrator in Red Hat OpenStack for the #3 spot.
If you are certified, use your certification to your advantage. If you're not yet certified, don't delay. Certification is more than just passing an exam to get a better job. Certification helps you build a solid career path that will continue to return more than you invest.
