There are course materials for the "Oracle Database 11g: SQL Fundamentals I: and "Oracle Database 11g: Introduction to SQL" courses that is given to the attendees. Links to these courses are on the exam page at http://bit.ly/qpHp.
    Good luck!

i wnt to give exam of 11g sql fundamental 1 so plz anyone help me to give info abt study guide and test demo
  • S Bair Monday, March 2, 2009
    Hello,
I purchased the book OCA Oracle Database 11g: SQL Fundamentals I Exam Guide (Exam 1Z0-051) and the practice exam that comes with the book requires an 80% score to pass but on the Oracle University site it says 60% is a passing score. Do you know if this just an error in the book or have the passing requirements changed?
    Steve
  • Harold Green Monday, March 2, 2009
Hi Steve - 60% is the correct number. I think that 80% might just be a figure for the practice test in the book itself [not for the real exam].
    Cheers,
    - Harold

Hello everybody, someone knows if the Practice Test in the book is similiar (easier, harder, etc) compared with the Real Exam 1Z0-051???? I mean the level of the questions...

    Hi,
I had failed it once for the first time. I just gave this exam and passed it. Do I receive a certificate? I took the non proctored version.
    Thanks

I have this book and am not very impressed with it.
The practice exam included on the CD has errors in it, for example:
one question in particular has a multiple choice of A,B,C or D.
You choose D as the correct answer, but it is marked incorrect.
    The study guide states:
    Correct answer: A,B & C
    Explanation:
D is the correct answer because....
There are a number of similar faults with this and the bonus downloadable practice test.
I took the test once so far and failed it, extremely suprised at how different the questions are to the practice tests. This book does not strike me as a very good exam guide at all.
I'd be interested to know if anyone else has been as unimpressed as I have with this book?
  • Harold Green Friday, April 10, 2009
Hi Steve - that sounds quite frustrating! I'm not sure which book you're referring to. as this blog post is about an exam. Can you help clarify?
    Cheers,
    - Harold

Hi I want to give the sql fundamentals 1 exam , so which book will be good for me to study. Harold do you suggest any???
    Chandra
  • Paul Sorensen Monday, August 24, 2009
Hi Chandra - so far I'm only aware of the materials that Oracle itself has published as part of the class. I haven't yet seen any standalone study guides.
  • arciitek Friday, October 16, 2009
    Hi All,
some of the links in this article are outdated. Prometric no longer hosts the exams. Pearson VUE is the testing partner now:

I just took this test unproctored online and failed. It was extremely difficult in my opinion. Very few of the questions were straighforward. Seemed more tailored to the developer crowd. I have already passed the Admin tests but tthis one has me worried. Any suggestions on how to prepare. I used Transcender's testing suite but obviously that didn't work. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
  • Henri Tuesday, December 15, 2009
I took the test today and I failed. I found the test very difficult. Maybe it's just my lack of experience but I couldn't get through the test. I had 14 minutes left and 20 question to still answer. The questions require a lot of analysing because there is lots of code to sift through. I will try again but good luck to the rest of you, you are going to need it.
  • Bas Thursday, December 17, 2009
I had the same experience doing the test.
All my example exams and test exams, I passed easilly, but the online exam was more difficult than I expected.
Almost 80% were practical questions, very large queries with multiple functions and subqueries.
I had 4 minutes left, because you really need all the time there is to read all the questions and to study the exibits.
I'm also searching for example exams to practice for my next exam. Any suggestions?
    Regards, Bas

    Hi
I am a fresher. I would like to do OCA.
Could you please let me know how to start with and what are the steps to be taken?
  • Jason Wednesday, January 20, 2010
    (1) How many tests are required for Oracle 11g OCA?
    (2) How many different types Oracl 11 OCA?
    Thanks!
  • Paul Sorensen Thursday, January 21, 2010
Hi Jason - two exams are required for the Oracle 11g Database OCA. (and there is only one "type" of 11g OCA; just multiple options for getting there). REF: http://bit.ly/fadC
  • Ed S Friday, January 22, 2010
The actual test questions are more difficult than any questions I've encountered on practice systems and the "SQL Fundamentals I Exam Guide" from Oracle Press is not enough material to use to pass the test despite the tag "Complete Exam Preparation" on the cover. The examples in the book do not cover enough scenarios nor do they prepare you for the format in which most questions are asked on the test.
  • Suresh Tuesday, January 26, 2010
Please can any one help me in finding the book and the author for Exam 1Z0-051 Oracle Database 11g: SQL Fundamentals I
  • Paul Sorensen Tuesday, January 26, 2010
Hi Suresh - the "Oracle Database 11g SQL Fundamentals I Exam Guide" by Oracle Press is available at http://bit.ly/5aoeqv.
  • aniruddha Friday, January 29, 2010
I want to know whether it is compulsory to take at least one instructor-led course to get OCA. If Yes then please explain.
  • Paul Sorensen Friday, January 29, 2010
No, not compulsory - see the Database 11g Administrator Certified Associate for example.
  • Haresh Tuesday, February 9, 2010

  • Walter Wednesday, May 12, 2010
Hi there, After 3 weeks full time preparation I tried the Ora 11g SQL Fundamentals exam today and failed with 54% scored (60% required). In my eyes the exam is very very difficult. Im am seeing there are others who struggled. Anyone has a tipp how I could prepare for another try? I used Kaplan Software (selftestsoftware.com) but the exam was far far more difficult than the preparation questions. So I am disappointed with this preparation software.
    Cheers, Walter

Walter, I'm sorry to hear about your recent experience with our product and exam attempt. We aim to duplicate the exam experience in both our engine interface and difficulty level of the content. As test takers ourselves, we sympathize with the time and financial commitment involved with certification, and we strive to ensure that our products fully prepares you for a successful exam attempt on your FIRST try. To that end, our relationship with the Oracle certification development team allows us to ensure that our products align with their most current exam versions.
Unfortunately, exams are not static and changes or updates will occasionally put our product out of sync with the live exams. When vendors change their exams after our product is released we rely on our customers and vendor news to notify us of changes. We’ve received very little feedback regarding our 1Z0-051 product, and of that feedback none of it (in the last 6 months) addresses the difficulty level of the live exam vs. our practice test.
I would encourage you to focus on the topic areas where your scores were the lowest & make a second attempt at the exam. Should you not pass, we would certainly honor the Test Pass Guarantee and would encourage that you contact us directly with any suggestions on how we could approach a revision to our product. You can direct your email to Content Development via the Contact Us link on our web site, or ask that Paul or Harold share my contact info directly to ensure that my team receives your inquiry.

Can we give Oracle 9i(O1z0-007) SQL exam & then the 11g Admin exam for 11g OCA?
Or Do we need to give 1z0-051 SQL exam ?
    Plsssss reply soon !!
  • Paul Sorensen Tuesday, June 1, 2010
Hi Sneha - based on the 11g OCA track at http://bit.ly/fadC, you can take either "Introduction to Oracle9i SQL" (1Z0-007) or "Oracle Database 11g: SQL Fundamentals I" (1Z0-051) to get credit for the first exam, but both exams are not needed. You then take "Oracle Database 11g: Administration I" (1Z0-052) to complete the certification tracks requirements.
  • Paul Sorensen Tuesday, June 1, 2010
Some exams are proctored, and a few are non-proctored, but the same exam is not both "proctored" and "non-proctored." So it depends on which certification track you are pursuing (which dictates which exams must be completed).
  • Paul Sorensen Tuesday, June 1, 2010
Hi Neha - don't let the comments intimidated you. If you want to make sure you pass the exam, be sure and use the Exam Topics section of http://bit.ly/ZNgtQ as a checklist, and make sure that you can successfully complete each of those requirements before you attempt the exam. Every test question comes directly from those Exam Topics.
What I'm not quite sure about is whether some of these exam guides cover each of these exam topics sufficiently. For that question, it might be good to also check over in the Oracle Technology Network (OTN) Certification Forum at http://bit.ly/HGWo.
We are about to release a new video in the next few weeks on "Preparing For Certification" that I think you'll find quite helpful, so be watching for that.
    Good luck!
  • Keerthi Thursday, June 17, 2010
    Hi Paul,
I have referred the link http://bit.ly/HGWo.
Could you please suggest some book which covers all of the Exam Topics.

  • Kshitij Friday, July 30, 2010
    Hello Everyone,
I was thinking of giving the OCA exams
    1Z0-051: SQL Fundamentals AND
    1Z0-052: Administrator I
in a couple of months. And I was wondering if the material that is present in the books released by Oracle Press be enough to pass the exam. Or am I going to need some more practice material to clear it. I have gone through the blog and saw that a lot of them have had problems with the difficulty level of the exam. And I was thinking if we would also need to be an expert at PL/SQL to pass the exam?
    Thanks in advance!!
  • Paul Sorensen Friday, July 30, 2010
Hi Kshitij and that's a good question and one we get quite a lot. Please check out our latest video update that shares more information on this.
  • Kshitij Sharma Monday, August 2, 2010
    Thanks for the link Paul.
I've seen the video and I think I can start preparing now.
I had another question about scheduling the test though,
    Can I take the
    1Z0-051: SQL Fundamentals
exam in say October and take the
    1Z0-052: Administrator I
    exam in January next year?
Or do I have to give both the exams within the same week or month. Is there any such rule regarding the scheduling policy for the OCA.
  • Naveen Tuesday, August 3, 2010

  • Paul Sorensen Tuesday, August 3, 2010
Kshitij - you'll be happy to know that the exams can be completed in any order and with any amount of time in between. Good luck!
  • Paul Sorensen Tuesday, August 3, 2010
Hi Naveen - yes, those exams are valid for the Oracle PL/SQL Developer
    Certified Associate (OCA)
    certification.
  • soumen nanda Friday, August 27, 2010
Hi I have appeared for the exam 1Z0-051 (proctored) last monday and failed with a score 59%.
Kindly advice whether i can reappear the exam any day through the unproctored links or else i have to wait for the next 14 days to reappear again the exam?
Also please tell me whether i will get any discount for reappearing the exam or else I have to pay in full again?
    Waiting eagerly for your reply.
  • Paul Sorensen Friday, August 27, 2010
HI Soumen, sorry you didn't pass that time but you sure were close! Per our re-take policy you may retake an online non-proctored exam at any time, and the full exam fee is paid for each attempt.
  • Jeanette Reed Friday, September 3, 2010
What is the difference between the proctored and the nonproctored 1z0-051 exam? I just took the proctored exam and did not pass. I took three of the Transcender Practice Exams and scored in the 60s and 70s.
  • Paul Sorensen Wednesday, September 8, 2010
Hi Jeanette - sorry that's been frustrating so far; looking forward though to seeing you succeed! Both exam options are the same as far as content/objectives - only the delivery method is different.

    my question is :
When I pass the one of first 3 exams
    1Z0-007
    1Z0-047
    1Z0-051
is there any time period after which I need to pass 1Z0-052 exam to get OCA otherwise I loose the validation of the first exam ?
    cheers
  • Paul Sorensen Tuesday, October 5, 2010
Ramish, no - there is not a maximum time limit between exams.
  • Santina Friday, October 22, 2010
Now I am scared. I been brought the Oracle fundmental exam book what else do I need to do to prepare?
  • Alexander Wednesday, October 27, 2010
Hi, I'd like to give a positive feedback to oracle.
I am in my last phase of preparation to both OCA exams (1z0-051 and 1z0-052). I got a testking engine for 051 and the Oracle Press Training Book (Watson) for 052.
The 51 exam looks very hard for me, then I will do the 52 first, but I was looking for info on 51 and got this URL. The blog is very nice and I really congratulate Paul and Harold for the posts.
As usual, I have 2 questions:
1-What is the percentage to pass 52 test?
2-What happens if, while I am taking the 51 non-proctored exam, my computer reboots? Can I just restart, log back and continue the exam or will it be rolledback by SMON (a joke to show how prepared I am for 52 exam)?
Thanks and GREAT JOB guys. This makes me strive more to be an Oracle Certified Associate.
  • Nello Tuesday, November 2, 2010
    Hi,
If I fail the exam, the next time I will have to repay the exam?

Yes - each time you attempt at the exam requires a separate payment.

  • Kshitij Sharma Tuesday, November 16, 2010
    Hey Paul,
I am going to give the 1Z0-051 in the next month(haven't selected a date yet).
I stay in a place which hasn't got a test center (or maybe it does but has been closed cause it doesn't show an appointment date). Because of that I was thinking of giving the non-proctored exam. But, I had my doubts about the exam; if the non-proctured exam is given as much recognition as the proctured exam. Can you please help me decide on what kind of exam should I be taking Proctored or Non-proctored? I don't have a problem in travelling to another city.
Another question, is there a student discount for both these tests?
    Thanks
    Kshitij Sharma
  • Paul Sorensen Tuesday, November 16, 2010
Kshitij - that exam (1Z0-051) receives the same amount of credit whether it is taken online (un-proctored) or in a Pearson VUE test center (proctored).
  • Emily Tuesday, December 7, 2010
    Hi Paul,
I passed unproctored 1z0-051 exam yesterday and I got 89%. I'm really happy with this score because I found questions are more difficult than any practice questions I did before. Now, my question is if this unproctored exam valid for OCA certificate? Someone told me I have to pass this exam at authorized test center instead of online after I finished the exam. Honestly I was very frustrated when I heard that. Is that true? Do I have to retake this exam at test center? I'm so confused now.
    Thanks,
    Emily
  • Brandye Barrington Wednesday, December 8, 2010
    Hi Emily,
You do not need to pass this exam in a test center in order for your results to be valid toward certification. However, you do need to also pass exam 052 in order to obtain your certification. The 051 exam is valid and you are ready to move on to 052 if you have not already passed it.
    Regards,
    Brandye
  • Emily Monday, December 20, 2010
    Hi Brandye,
Thanks for your reply. I wonder if I can take exam 147 instead of 052. Our DBA recommanded me to obtain PL/SQL Developer OCA certification first. I just want to double check with you if it's possible to get PL/SQL Developer OCA certification if I passed 052 and 147.
    Thanks,
    Emily
  • Brandye Barrington Monday, December 20, 2010
    Hi Emily,
Yes, you are correct. In order to obtain the PL/SQL Developer OCA, you can use exams 051 and 147. The path I provided with 051 and 052 is the DBA OCA path.
    Regards,
    Brandye Barrington
  • Paul Friday, January 7, 2011
    Hi Paul,
How can i do an Exam on-line without going to any testing centre, Because i need to pay directly to oracle,
we do not have a testing site in Uganda
  • Brandye Barrington Friday, January 7, 2011
    Hi Paul,
You can take the 051 exam online without going to a test center. You would register online at www.pearsonvue.com/oracle and select 'Non-Proctored' exams. However, in order to obtain a certification, you would need to take your 2nd exam at a testing center. I see that there are a few testing centers in Uganda. There are a few in Kampala and one in Kigali. Go to www.pearsonvue.com/oracle and select Locate a Test Center.
You can also contact Oracle University http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=225#5b to see if there may be an Oracle Testing Center in your area. I was not able to find one, but an OU rep would be more helpful in this area.
    Good luck with your exam.
    Regards,
    Brandye Barrington
  • Tony Monday, January 10, 2011
Hi all. Will be writing my oca 10g exams soon and wanted to know whether its possible to pass the exams without purchasing and using practice exam questions from bodies like transender, ucertify & pass4sure?Your response will be greatly appreciated.
    Regards.
  • Brandye Barrington Monday, January 10, 2011
Tony, I will let others comment on how they prepared for their exams, but one of the sites you mention is a known braindump site and not a practice test site as they claim. Using braindumps is cheating, so be very careful when choosing a practice test. One way to avoid braindumps is to check practice test sites through CertGuard's braindump ID system http://www.certguard.com/search.asp.
Good luck with your exams. You may also want to post this question to our forum for feedback http://forums.oracle.com/forums/forum.jspa?forumID=459.

    Hi everyone,
I would like to know something please, For developers who want to pass JUST the 1Z0-051 exam, do they receive a certification from Oracle ?
    Thanks
  • Brandye Barrington Tuesday, April 19, 2011
    Hi Jamal,
Thank you for your interest in Oracle Certification. The 051 exam on its own does not result in any certification. Oracle does not grant a certification based solely on passing a non-proctored exam.

please what is difference between these exam codes 1Z0-51 and 1Z0-47?...and is there any difference between sql and sql expert certification?...thanks.
  • Brandye Barrington Tuesday, May 31, 2011
Bimss, to determine the differences in these two exams, you should review the exam topics for each. You could also search this topic on our Certification Forum http://bitly.com/iRHsSl. Many questions have been asked about which of these exams to take.
One main difference is that if you take the 047 exam, you will obtain the SQL Expert certification. So, if you go on to complete the OCA path you are pursuing, you will end up with two certifications. The caveat is that the 047 exam is a harder exam.

Also,how can i get up-to- date 'dumps'? Waiting 2 hear from u.
    Cheers!

  • Brandye Barrington Thursday, June 2, 2011
    Gloria,
First I would like to address dumps. Please be aware that use of dumps is considered cheating. If Oracle discovers that a candidate has cheated on her exam(s) scores can be revoked, candidates can be decertified and candidates can be banned from testing for a period of time. Regarding the exams having been merged - they have not. Those exams are still delivered as separate exams. If you have any further questions on exams, feel free to contact our customer service team at http://bit.ly/f39Dny. Regards, Brandye Barrington

Vinay, Proctored exams are delivered at a Pearson VUE testing center with a proctor present. Non-proctored exams are available online without a proctor. You can get a full description on Pearson VUE's website at http://bit.ly/k8KXzX. You can find Oracle's retake policy on our website at http://bit.ly/lkzIxI. Regards,

    hi,

i wanted to know if by just giving the izo-051 certification, do we get a certificate for passing?..

is it the same for IZO-047??.......

please help me as soon as possible....!

    regards

    bhavin

  • brandye barrington Friday, July 22, 2011

    Bhavin,

To clarify, 1Z0-051 is not a certification. It is a certification exam that, paired with exam 1Z0-052, leads to 11g DBA OCA certification. You will not receive a certificate after passing only the 1Z0-051 exam.

Exam 1Z0-047 serves a dual purpose. It can be used as the first exam, the SQL exam requirement, in the 11g DBA OCA path instead of 1Z0-051. Exam 047 also leads to the SQL Expert certification on its own. So, if you pass the 047 exam, you will receive the SQL expert certificate. You may then go on to pass the 1Z0-052 exam to obtain the 11g DBA OCA certification.

    Regards,

    Brandye Barrington

"To clarify, 1Z0-051 is not a certification. It is a certification exam that, paired with exam 1Z0-052, leads to 11g DBA OCA certification."

How does that differ from a Windows 7 Exam working towards MCTS Certifications?

Do you get a "document" that says you passed 1Z0-051?

  • brandye barrington Thursday, August 4, 2011

I cannot speak to Microsoft offerings. However, I wanted to clarify that there is not a certificate provided for passing the 051 exam on its own. This is a common misconception that needs to be clarified.

Upon passing any Oracle Certification exam, candidates will receive a score report indicating the exam score. You can also access your score report on the Pearson VUE website at pearsonvue.com/oracle>Print Score Report.

  • Sushil Tuesday, August 23, 2011

I have cleared OCA (1z0-007 and 1z0-147) in 2007. Is this certification valid still? Is it ok for me to pass only 1z0-146 for OCP?

  • brandye barrington Tuesday, August 23, 2011

    Sushil,

The OCA certification is still valid and you can obtain the OCP certification by passing the 146 exam. You can view this path on this page http://bit.ly/1oyl6E.

hello guys.. serious help needed regarding my doubt..

I wanted to write SQL Fundamentals 11g (i.e First exam choice for OCA) I had nice preparation.. To write this exam do I have to pay course OCA coaching fee in any of the certified oracle affiliated training institute to become eligible to write the exam? Or can I register directly in the Pearson VUE website and pay the exam fee and take the exam? Is the coaching necessary to become eligible to take this test? Please help and answer my question..

Thanks a lot for your time :)

  • brandye barrington Wednesday, August 24, 2011

Courses are not required in order to take exams. In a certification path that includes a course requirement, you may take any/all exams without completing training. However, in order to obtain the certification, you must complete the training. You may take the 051 exam without completing a training requirement. Also, the 11g DBA OCA certification does not require training. So, if you pass the 051 and 052 exams, you will obtain the 11g DBA OCA certification.

  • Adam Wednesday, August 31, 2011

I took the 051 exam (unproctored) yesterday.

The practice tests I had used as part for my preparation were really misleading - I was using the official preparation book.

The exam is difficult. The majority questions will generally offer exhibits and will present multiple scenarios in single and often quite long questions.

The problem I had was the time limit. Under 2 mins per question seems like too short an amount of time. It was taking me longer than this to read most of the information involved in the question. With 3 mins to go I was still in the 40s out of 70 questions. I still managed to score 40% which kind of gives me optimism.

I will retake in few weeks as I now know what to expect and I won't rely on my practice test scores as a judge of my knowledge.

Can I ask one thing are the proctored exams delivered on a computer or are they paper based? I found reading and comprehending the info on screen (often in two tabbed pages) quite difficult.

  • brandye barrington Wednesday, August 31, 2011

    Hi Adam,

Sorry you had trouble finishing the exam. We actually have an industry-standard process that we go through to set the duration of each exam and every question is reviewed by a subject matter expert for validity and to ensure that we've allowed enough time for each question (more for some less for others.)

One thing you can to to help you prepare is to have a look on our Certification Forum http://bit.ly/oDYL8C for books recommended by other candidates. This may help you to perform better on your next attempt.

    Brandye Barrington

  • Mihir Thursday, September 1, 2011

    Hello Brandye,

    1. After paying for 1Z0-051 exam fee on Pearson Vue website, will i receive an URL or something to start my non-proctored 1Z0-051 exam ?

    2. What if something goes wrong (exam link just got hanged/internet is gone/computer issue) during non-proctored exam ? can i start it again later ?

    Please let me know. Thanks!

  • Ambika Friday, September 2, 2011

I am planning to giving 1Z0-051.

Can any one please suggest from where can i get the study materials and practice questions for the preparation.

  • DBA_Toronto Thursday, September 8, 2011

I passed the 1z0-051 yesterday on the second try. I only got 55% on the first attempt. I found the questions to be reasonable but time mamangement is the key. I noticed that it takes lot time to review the table structure and relationship(especially when its on the second tab). As soon as I finish the first exam, I retook the exam again as I was confident that I could pass if I manage time properly. I got 70% on the second try. There is also a MARK option that can be used to park the questions you would like to review & answer at the end. Good luck!

  • Rahul Kishore Monday, September 12, 2011

Could you please advise, should i need to do some course for OCA Certificate or will do from reading notes and books.

  • brandye barrington Monday, September 12, 2011

@Mihir, Sorry for the delay in responding. Somehow I missed this post. Once you purchase your 051 exam, you will be able to go back to your account at pearsonvue.com/oracle and access the exam. If you lose connectivity during your non-proctored exam, go back to www.pearsonvue.com/oracle and click on “Schedule a Test.” You will be asked to sign in again, and then be redirected back to your exam where you left off.

@Ambika and Raul, you can find suggested training and exam topics on our website at certification.oracle.com and you can find suggestions for books and other preparation advice on our Certification Forum at http://bit.ly/oDYL8C. My suggestion would be to first review the exam topics and determine where your knowledge gaps are, then determine what additional training/prep is needed.

pls i just started receiving lectures on oracle 11g.pls how do i get a manual for SQL.....

  • Jimmy Monday, October 31, 2011

I just read through the posts and found somebody had took the 1z0-051 exam in proctored and non-proctored way. But I see there is only non-proctored option for 1z0-051. Please clarify. However, if the exam can be taken online at home, why do people go to the test center? Is there any advantage of proctored option?

  • guest Monday, October 31, 2011

Hi Brandye, I have another question regarding the purchasing the eVoucher. Due to currency fluctuation, people may select to pay US$ to save money. We can do this at the home page: education.oracle.com. If we select US region, then the eVoucher is priced in US$. If we select other regions, then it is priced in the local currency. Any problem if I select US$ but I am not located in US?

  • Brandye Barrington Friday, November 4, 2011

@Kaka, You can search our Certification Forum for recommendations on books for SQL http://bit.ly/oDYL8C.

@Jimmy, Some people prefer to go to the test center because they may be concerned about sufficient/consistent internet connection. If you are confident about your connection and machine's performance, you should be fine taking it at home.

@guest, You should purchase the voucher in the country where you are taking the test. Often, the price in the US may be different from the price in your country, so the US-purchased voucher will not work and you will not be able to get the voucher replaced, you will have to purchase another.

    Hi,

I want to know which exam to choose for Oracle PL/SQL Developer Certified Associate.

    Which is better to choose.

    1Z0-047 or 1Z0-051

    1Z0-147 or 1Z0-144

    Thanks,

  • brandye barrington Friday, December 9, 2011

    Hi Priya,

147 is the newer exam. However, I would recommend that you compare the exam topics to see which topics you are most familiar with. This question has also been discussed on our Certification Forum http://bit.ly/oDYL8C. I would suggest that you also search there for more information.

hi i did training for oracle 9i sql and plsql back in 2010,at that time giving IZ0-007 Oracle9i SQL + IZ0-147 Introduction to PLSQL made you a OCA certified. i wish to become an administrator not developer.

I am unable to find whether it is still possible to get the OCA title doing these exams.

Additionally is there any difference in reality in 1zo-007 and 1z0-051,because the syllabus looks the same.

    please help me with this,thanks.

  • brandye barrington Wednesday, December 14, 2011

    Kanu,

If you wish to obtain the 11g DBA OCA certification, then you can do so by passing one SQL exam and also passing the 052 exam. You have fulfilled the SQL exam requirement with the 007 exam, so you simply need to take the 052 exam to become 11g DBA OCA.

    Regards,

    Brandye Barrington

any one know that about oracle 051 exam. Can we backward and forward or only forward?

    thank you

  • guest Tuesday, January 3, 2012

@Guest, during the exam, you will be able to look back over questions that you previously answered.

  • Paramita Thursday, January 19, 2012

Just passed 051 this Monday with 67%. It is much harder than I expected. I used transcender and typically got more than 80% with time to spare, but in real exam I only finished 28 questions after the 1st hour and with a lot of answers I am not sure of. I picked up the pace in the 2nd hour and barely finished it.

Transcender doesn't impress me --- many errors in questions and answers. I wish I can find a better practice exam software.

  • guest Friday, January 20, 2012

    Paramita,

We have found that Kaplan typically has very high quality products, which is why we partner with them to product practice exams. I would suggest that you contact Kaplan with your complaints about their Transcender tests - especially if you've found some incorrect questions/answers. I'm sure that they'd appreciate the feedback and would like to research any items that my need to be updated.

My company paid for my training 1zo-007 last year, can I use the training material to sit for 1z0-051 exam?

    Medo

  • Brandye Barrington Tuesday, March 13, 2012

    Hi Medo,

I think the 051 exam will cover things that were not in the training you completed, but some of the training will probably overlap. You can compare the course topics to the 051 exam topics. This will give you an idea of where your training gaps are.

  • guest Friday, March 16, 2012

    Hi,

I would like to go for Exam 1Z0-051. Do we receive any study material after registration. Also, in how much time duration do we need to give our exam. What is the expiration of registration

  • Brandye Barrington Friday, March 16, 2012

The suggested training and exam topics are on our website http://bit.ly/ZNgtQ. You will not receive any additional materials after registering. You will also find the exam details on this page, like duration, number of questions and passing score. When you register for the exam, Pearson VUE will provide the registration expiration date if there is one. I would suggest registering for the exam when you are ready to take it rather than registering too far ahead.

  • Ashish Chauhan Saturday, April 14, 2012

    Hi

I have studied Oracle 9i "Introduction to SQl" . Can I opt for IZ-051 certification instead of IZ0-007.

Please suggest for which certification i should go for?

  • Brandye Barrington Monday, April 16, 2012

    Ashish,

You can take either exam. The training you completed tho is on an earlier version. the 051 exam is based on 11g, so there may be some differences. You can compare the exam topics for the two exams to determine how different they are. You can also go to the Certification Forum http://bit.ly/oDYL8C and do a quick search. There has been much posted about 007 vs 051 vs 047.

  • Akriti Sunday, April 29, 2012

    Hi,

I have completed Test Izo-147 (Introduction to Oracle 9i) in 2008.

Is this exam still valid? What can be career path with this certification?

    Also

What career path should I follow to become Oracle Database 11g Administrator Certified Associate(Izo-052) ?

Do I still need to take any of the exam 007/047/051 before giving 052?

  • Brandye Barrington Tuesday, May 1, 2012

    Hi Akriti,

I'm not sure what exam you are referring to.

    1Z0-147 = Program with PL/SQL

    1Z0-007 = Introduction to Oracle9i SQL

I expect you are referring to the 007 exam. If you want to become 11g DBA OCA, you can take the 1Z0-052 exam now. Both of these exams together will result in 11g DBA OCA certification. This is a database administrator job role.

    Regards,

    Brandye Barrington

  • guest Wednesday, May 2, 2012

    Hi Brandye,

Sorry ,I mentioned the wrong exam name.

I completed 1Z0-147-Program with PL/SQL in 2008.And So I am Oracle PL/SQL Certified Associate. For taking exam 1Z0-052 , do I need to take any other exam before it? 007/047/051?

  • Brandye Barrington Wednesday, May 2, 2012

Did you also pass exam 1Z0-007 or 1Z0-001 in 2008? If not, if 147 is the only exam that you have passed, then you do not have a certification yet. If you passed 007 or 001 also in 2008, then you only need to take the 051 exam to become 11g DBA OCA. However, if you have passed only 147, you will need to take 007, 047 or 051 to become Oracle PL/SQL OCA and then also 052 to become 11g DBA OCA.

  • Brandye Barrington Monday, May 7, 2012

There will not be more than one correct answer for a question. In the questions that require you to choose more than one option for the answer, all must be correct - there is no partial grading.

Training is not required for the PL/SQL Developer OCA certification. If you pass these two exams, you will be awarded the certification.

  • Brandye Barrington Tuesday, May 15, 2012

This PL/SQL OCA certification does not require training. You will receive the certification if you pass both exams. Please be sure to register for both exams using the same Pearson VUE login information so that your exams will be under the same ID.

I want to appear for IZ0-051 and IZ0-052. Is there any time limit between these two exams? I mean after IZ0-51, do I have to appear for 052 within certain time period?

    Thanks

  • Brandye Barrington Monday, June 4, 2012

There is no time-limit, Gita. The only caution would be to be sure that you pass both exams before they retire. You don't want to get into a situation where you've passed 051 and 052 retires before you take it. However, there is no immediate danger of that. Retirement is not currently under discussion for these two exams since they are the latest version.

  • Brandye Barrington Tuesday, July 10, 2012

    Hi Lalithapriya,

You will not receive a certificate for passing the 051 exam. This is the first exam in several certification paths. You should go on to take the 144 or 147 exam in order to obtain the Oracle PL/SQL OCA certification. You can find more information on our website http://bit.ly/NlTqtO.

I am going to do some Oracle SQL certification though I am having some problems.

Recently I have finished a training in SQL fundamentals 1. Now I want to be certified in both SQL fundamentals 1 and SQL fundamentals 2, but I cannot find the exam for SQL fundamentals 2. Also, I read that Introduction to SQL is equivalent to these exams but I am seeing that available is only Introduction to Oracle9i SQL, not the Oracle 11g version. And the last point is that I find in this link (http://pearsonvue.com/oracle/schedule/index_en.asp) this : Only select exams are available online, and certification is never awarded based solely on passing an online exam. To achieve certification, an online exam must always be paired with a proctored exam. What does this mean?

I am extremely confused in what I should do. Any help would be extremely appreciated.

  • guest Monday, October 22, 2012

    Hi Ismail,

Have you visited our website at certification.oracle.com? You will find the info you need there. There is not a SQL Fundamentals II exam. There are also not SQL Fundamentals I and II certifications.

Have a look at this page: http://bit.ly/Kx7iac. This provides the certification paths for 11g DBA Associate and Professional. If you pass the SQL Fundamentals I exam as well as the Admin I exam, you will obtain the Oracle Database 11g Administrator Certified Associate certification.

The SQL Fundamentals I exam can be taken online. This exam on its own will not give you a certification. You must also take the Admin I exam to get the certification. This is what the Pearson VUE website means.

Hi..i have passed 1z0-001 recently. now I want to attempt 1z0-052 admin 1 11g database exam.I want to know am i eligible to appear in 1zo-052 exam...? thanks...

  • Brandye Barrington Monday, November 12, 2012

The 001 exam will fulfill the SQL requirement since you've already taken it. You can go ahead and take 052 to get the 11g DBA OCA certification. Be sure that you register for your 052 exam using the same account as the 001 exam.

  • jag Saturday, December 15, 2012

Hi, I was planning on taking the 1z0-051 exam, I just completed my a DBA course in college that used the oracle 11g fundentals 1 book. I believe I have pretty good knowledge of all the thing outlined for the exam, and also just completed the exam for my course today, so I basically feel like I am prepared to take it and pass. I plan on taking it on Monday after reviewing all my notes again, do you guys recommend I take more time to prep or considering that our course was pretty much based on everything in this test, I should be fine and do the exam while everything is fresh in my mind?

Sorry for any typo's I'm on my phone. Thanks

  • Brandye Barrington Thursday, December 20, 2012

    Jag,

That's such a tough question to answer. If your course was based on the exam topics on the website, I'd review all the exam topics and ensure that you feel comfortable with each topic. If you do, you probably should go ahead and schedule the test while it is all still fresh in your mind - provided you had some hands on practice in your course. Reading something and doing it are totally different things. You may also want to get some perspective from some experienced professionals on our Certification Forum http://bit.ly/Lt5vhm.

  • Brandye Barrington Thursday, January 3, 2013

My suggestion would be the 11g DBA - OCA then OCP. You can find more information on requirements on our website at certification.oracle.com.

pls do i need to read the fundamentals II For the fundamentals I exam. Or i only need it in preparation for IZO-052 exam. Thanks

  • Brandye Barrington Monday, February 11, 2013

    Hi Wumi,

You should carefully review the exam topics for the exam you wish to take. It is also best to take the course that aligns with the exam you wish to take.

    Hi Brandye,

I'm a little confused with all these questions/answers. In short, can I take exam IZ0-007 and then exam IZ0-052 to become OCA 11G ? Is IZ0-007 still valid for this purpose ?

    Please let me know,

    Thanks in advance,

    Best regards

Yes - you can take the 007 and 052 exams to obtain the 11g DBA OCA certification.

i am planning to take OCP in 11g. for this whether i have to go for training courses in 1Z0-051,052 and 053 or i have to go for only one class among this? please anyone provide me information on this ASAP

  • guest Monday, March 18, 2013

You will see on our website http://bit.ly/Kx7iac that you do not have to take training for the OCA track (051+052). You do need to complete training for the OCP track (053). You will also need to submit a course form (instructions on the website) for your training to be validated, and all of your exams must be completed under the same account/Oracle Testing ID.

  • guest Monday, April 15, 2013

    Hi

I currently have Oracle Forms 6i / Build Internet Applications OCP completed in 2004.

I've passed 1Z0-001 as part of this. I'm now thinking of taking the OCA 11G Administrator certification. Will I still have to take both exams - 1Z0-051 and 1Z0-052 to achieve this?

    Thanks

  • guest Monday, April 15, 2013

    Hi

if you have passed 1ZO-001 as part of OCP Forms 6i. Do you still need to take 1ZO-051 when trying to attain 11g OCA administrator?

    Thanks

  • Brandye Barrington Tuesday, April 16, 2013

@Guest on Apr 12: You have passed the 007 exam. If you want to go on to obtain the 11g DBA OCA certification, you can pass the 052 exam and you will receive the certification. Just be sure that you take the 052 exam using the same Oracle Testing ID that you used for the 007 exam.

@Guest 1 on Apr 15: Your 001 exam will fulfill the SQL exam requirement for 11g DBA OCA. You will only need to take the 052 exam.

@Guest 2 on Apr 15: same answer as above.

I want to do OCA Certification. What are all the exams i need to do?

I have planned for 1z0-051. What are the remaining exams i need to do?

  • Brandye Barrington Friday, April 26, 2013

    Hi Prabhu,

It depends on which OCA certification you want to obtain. Go to certification.oracle.com and determine the OCA certification path you wish to follow, 10g DBA OCA, 11g DBA OCA, PL/SQL Developer OCA, etc. This will help you determine which exam or exams are next.

    Hi ,

I am planning to appear in the 1Z0-051 exam.

I have read book, OCA Oracle Database 11g: SQL Fundamentals I by oracle press.

Does the tables used in actual exam questions refer to the same tables used in examples of the above book.

    Regards

    Manoj

  • Brandye Barrington Monday, April 29, 2013

    Hi Manoj,

I honestly do not know. This is not really a question that anyone can answer for you either, without violating the candidate agreement and giving away info that is on the exam. I would recommend using the tables in the book as a preparation tool and not count on them being the same as the tables on the exam.

    Regards,

    Brandye Barrington

  • guest Tuesday, April 30, 2013

Thanks Brandye for the quick reply.

  • guest Monday, May 6, 2013

    Guys,

While I am preparing for a Adv PL/SQL developer professional certification, I did clear SQL fundamentals I (IZ0-051) today.

There are 2 things which you need to hard code in your mind:

    1. Time factor is the most important thing that you should consider while preparing for this exam (I am not sure about other exams!!) Take a lot of mock tests from Kaplan and the summary pages of books which aim at this exam. You'll end up knowing topics and but no time to finish them. I don't why would they time so narrow.

    2. Mere text book preparation is not sufficient unless you are super intelligent (I know I am not!!). Oracle SQL reference and google search is your best friend and go through each topic in it very carefully and writing your own notes. When you learn a new topic, practice it on a schema to write it in your mind.

    Thanks!!

    Hi everyone,

I completed my engineering in Computer science.I look forward to get a Job in an MNC.To increase the weightage of my resume i would like to do a certification. Can anyone help me which sql certification exam should i prepare and take.I'm a fresher and i dont know from where to start.

by reading the previous comments should i take 1z0-051 ????

  • Brandye Barrington Tuesday, May 28, 2013

    Hi Anvesh,

One thing to consider is that exam 051 is a little easier than 047, but does not result in a certification on its own. In order to obtain a certification with 051, you have to pass an additional exam. The 047 certification results in certification on its own. Then, if you pass an additional exam, you'll have an additional certification. You should read comments on the Certification Forum http://bit.ly/Lt5vhm for more info and a better perspective.

I am planning to give these 3 exams - 1Z0-O51, 1ZO-147 and 1Z0-146 to become Oracle Advanced PL-SQL developer Certified Professional. Are these all non-proctored exams? Can I give them all at home? If yes, Will I get certificate? or I need to give any of these exams through proctor or any testing center and then only I'll get certificate.

  • guest Tuesday, June 25, 2013

    hello sir,

I tried downloading oracle 11g enterprise edition for my windows 7 x32. it took a long time and also asked for many requirements which i was unable to comprehend. so i downloaded 10g and currently executing queries in it. the thing is am planning for 1Z0-051 which is 11g. Will there be so much of difference ? can i make sure that questions asked will pertain to either of them?

  • Brandye Barrington Thursday, June 27, 2013

@ Guest on June 3 - Only the 051 exam is non-proctored. You can take that one online and home. The other two you will need to take at a Pearson VUE testing center.

@ Guest on June 25, I suggest you ask this question on our Certification Forum http://bit.ly/Lt5vhm. Users there will be able to assist. You can check exam topics for comparison on our website at http://bit.ly/19FtJST.

  • Brandye Barrington Friday, August 23, 2013

    Hi Durga,

You will not receive a certificate for only passing the 051 exam. You will also need to pass 052 if you want Database Administrator certification or 144 or 147 for PL/SQL Developer Certification. Good luck with your certification paths! You can get more information on our website at certification.oracle.com.

Hi..i am java developer i like write one oracle start up sql related certificate. can u guys suggest which is the gud one.

i have these in my mind.

    1. 1Z0-007 Introduction to Oracle9i: SQL certification

    2. 1Z0-051: Oracle Database 11g: SQL Fundamentals I

is the above both are same (just the version difference with features)?

Which is the latest SQL certification to write in 9i or advanced versions.

  • Brandye Barrington Tuesday, September 10, 2013

The 1Z0-007 exam has retired and is no longer available. There are two other options 1Z0-047 or 1Z0-061. I suggest you search for this information on our Oracle Certification Forum http://bit.ly/Lt5vhm. There is good info on this question out there.

Oracle9i Database certifications are no longer available. You'll need to pursue 10g, 11g, or 12c.

  • Shakti Sharma Wednesday, September 18, 2013

I want to enquire about the OCA certification. Is it compulsory to first pass the 1Z0-051 exam before attempting the 1Z0-052 exam? Or I can take 1Z0-052 before appearing for 1Z0-051?

    Thanks.

  • Brandye Barrington Wednesday, September 18, 2013

    Hari,

If you want to have a SQL certification, it is best if you pass the 047 exam. This exam will lead to a SQL Expert certification. The 051 exam will not result in a certification on its own, you will need to pass an additional exam.

    Shakti,

You can take your exams in any order. You do not need to do 051 first.

    Regards,

  • guest Monday, September 23, 2013

    Hi,

I had already passed 1Z0-052 (Oracle Database 11g: Administration I) but unfortunately failed this exam (1Z0-051 Oracle Database 11g: SQL Fundamentals I). As a lot of people mentioned, 66 questions to go through in 120 minutes did not give me enough time to properly read questions and understand contexts ( not to mention that having a separate tab for exhibit and switch it back and forth reduces the concentration ).

Also I am probably slower than others in terms of reading speed as English is not my first language.

My question is if I take an exam in my native language (Japanese) = 1Z0-051J and pass it, am I still be entitled to be an OCA ? The reason for that is obviously to speed up reading to give me more time to think about

Or since I have already passed Oracle Database 11g: Administration I in English, do I need to stick to English version of 1Z0-051 exam to be certified ?

  • Brandye Barrington Monday, September 23, 2013

This should not be an issue. However, I suggest that you confirm with Oracle Certification Support http://bit.ly/KMsuH3.

    Hello, Brandye and everyone else!

I have a question on SQL Fundamentals I exam. Is there any other alternative to Kaplan practice book in order to prepare for the exam? I need the most challenging, tricky practice tests that involve complex queries, subqueries, functions and joins. Thank you!

  • Brandye Barrington Monday, November 4, 2013

Kaplan has the best practice tests that we know of on the market. There is also the recommended training http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/show_desc.redirect?dc=D64252GC10 provided by Oracle and also the exam preparation seminar http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=533&p_org_id=1001&get_params=pkgId:D76348_PKG.

  • shaimaa Friday, February 7, 2014

should I attend course for this certification , or is it enough to

    study exam materials?

    thanks a lot.

  • Brandye Barrington Friday, February 7, 2014

    Shaimaa,

I believe that it is always best to attend a training course. The instruction and hands-on practice that you receive in class is invaluable. Ultimately, though it is a personal preference decision. Training is not required for this exam, so self-study is fine if you are able to discipline yourself to study on your own.

You mention studying exam materials. I hope that you are not referring to dumps. Using dumps is cheating and proves nothing about your skills and ability. Using dumps also perpetuates a serious cheating problem among exam candidates across the area of IT, and brings down the value of the certification.

If you self-study, I suggest you use books, Oracle documentation and practice and avoid dumps. Good luck on your path!

    Regards,

    Brandye Barrington

    Hi Brandye,

I want to write OCA 1Z0-051 exam before 5th march. Could you pls help me on my below queries.

    1) Is this exam is not retired yet?

    2) I am writting this first time OCA exam in my career, so I no need to write any other exam before this to get OCA certified?

    3) IF you have the exam dumps, so could u pls share with me.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Brandye Barrington Wednesday, February 26, 2014

    @Hammad,

If you lose connectivity during your non-proctored exam:

    - Go back to pearsonvue.com/oracle

    - Select ‘Sign in – my account’

    - Select ‘Non-proctored Sign In’ to cancel an online exam.

    - Enter login details

    - Select ‘Current Activity’ to reschedule or cancel scheduled exams.

I believe that the clock stops if you lose connectivity. You can contact Pearson VUE www.pearsonvue.com/oracle/contact to confirm.

    @Abhilasha,

    1) Exam is not retired

    2) In order to obtain the 11g DBA OCA certification, you'll need to pass this exam as well as 052. Both exams are required for the certification.

    3) Using dumps is cheating.

    Hi Sir,

Finally after lot of hardwork, I have completed 1Z0-051. Since I know only basics of SQL and I dont have much experience on database side so I am really not sure which track( DBA, PL Sql developer side)I can go now.

Could you please let me know what are all the certifications I can take to obtain the latest certification by using this 1Z0-051.

I am totally blank which certification to go now, so kindly advise on this. Any help would be really appreciated.

    Thanks.

  • Brandye Barrington Friday, March 21, 2014

If you go to the exam page for exam 1Z0-051 http://bit.ly/1g8C0UB, you'll see the certifications that are associated with this exam. Click on one of those certifications and you'll be taken to a page that shows requirements for that certification path.

Determining which certification to go for now is largely a personal decision based on your interests, skills and possible job opportunities. You can get more information and discuss on the Oracle Certification Forum http://bit.ly/Lt5vhm.

  • Brandye Barrington Monday, April 21, 2014

Since you are pursuing the OCA certification, training is not required. If you feel comfortable with the exam topics and feel that your company-provided training is sufficient to help you pass the exams, then you do not need to complete further training.

If you decide to go for the OCP level of certification by takin exam 053, you will need to complete training through Oracle University or and Oracle University training partner. This is a requirement of the OCP certification.

    Hi,

I completed my "Introduction to Oracle9i SQL" (1Z0-007) back in 2006. Can I take "Oracle Database 11g: Administration I" (1Z0-052) now (2014) to complete the OCA certification track or should I re-take the fundamentals again (as it has been almost 8 years). I have been working in Oracle since then, but did not get a chance to complete 2 Level.

  • Brandye Barrington Wednesday, April 30, 2014

    Nithya,

You do not need to take another SQL exam. You can move on to exam 052 and we will accept your 007 exam results.

Regards and good luck on your next exam!

    Dear Brandye,

I am an ISTQB certified software testing professional with 5 yrs. of experience. To grow in my career (technically),i decided to go by some useful certifications n out of all,i decided to take up OCA-Exam 051(SQL Fundamentals). But,am confused about how do i start preparing for the exam? There are so many books available in market which makes one confuse undoubtedly.Could you please suggest me the best ways to prepare for this exam, like which books i should refer,if there are sample papers available on oracle site/or anywhere for last years? Can i self prepare for the exam and take it up without joining any training? How much time it requires for one to successfully clear the exam? Looking forward for your help n suggestions. Thanks - Mukta

  • TJ Thursday, June 12, 2014

Hi all, I am currently working on non-IT job but have graduated with masters in Computer Science. I am planning to get in touch with database concepts and start off the career as I lost touch being away from the field for a long time now. I just want to make sure my basics are strong. As of now, I do not have any idea about which certification (for DBA, development, etc etc) helps me. I request any of you to guide me with a particular direction to start off with. I was going through many sites and have decided to take the 1Z0-051 but looking at this form I doubt whether this is the basic level. Which is the basic level of certification? PL/SQL, SQL Fundamentals or anything else? please suggest something as quickly as possible.

  • Brandye Barrington Thursday, June 12, 2014

@Mukta,I would suggest that you search the Oracle Certification Forum http://bit.ly/Lt5vhm. There is some very useful information posted about preparation books on that forum.

@TJ It depends on if you want to go the DBA route or the Developer route. You may want to have a look at the Oracle Certification Forum http://bit.ly/Lt5vhm for some more information.

  • Darryl Monday, June 23, 2014

    Hi there,

I've been an Oracle DBA for roughly 6 years. I've finally decided to give the OCA exams a try and hopefully get certified. I don't believe in learning from "brain dumps", I want to do this legitimately.

I would like to tackle the 051 exam first. But i'm confused as to which self-study books are the most current and the most accurate. There's nothing worse than paying money for a resource and finding out it wasn't very helpful.

Can you recommend the best self study book out there for the 051 and 052 exams?

    thank you in advance.

    cheers,

    Darryl

  • Brandye Barrington Monday, June 23, 2014

Harmeet, you can go on to exam 052 now to complete your OCA certification. You do not need to re-take the SQL exam.

Darryl, I suggest that you check the Certification Forum http://bit.ly/Lt5vhm. You can find several good book recommendations there and see comments on the books.

I have appeared for SQL fundamentals- 1 exam. I got 75% marks.after how many days of test completion I will get a certificate?? Its needed. Thanks.

  • Brandye Barrington Friday, July 25, 2014

    Arjun,

Passing the 051 exam does not result in a certification on its own. You will need to pass another exam in order to obtain certification. Exam 051 is the first exam in several OCA certification paths. From the exam page for 051 http://bit.ly/SIlOAE, you can see teh associated certifications. Click on one of these and you will be able to see the certification requirements.

Is there any time limitation between exams Izo-051 and Iz0-144 to become OCA? I gave Iz0-051 last year in September. I am Planning to give Iz0-144 by end of this year. Will there be any issue if I give it with a gap of more than an year?

  • Brandye Barrington Thursday, July 31, 2014

    Shlesha,

There is not a time limit between these exams. There should be no problem with taking the 144 exam now. However, please be sure that you take the 144 exam using the same Oracle Testing ID you used to take the 051 exam.

I recently took an oracle 1z0-051 Sql fundamentals and striked down the correct answers but when I looked at my results, I got a 0% which is impossible since I work with oracle everyday, what could have been the problem. I am very worried. I took the exam today(09/09/14) around finishing by almost 1150 hours(CAT) Oracle Testing ID: OC1412368.

I have failed this exam twice now. After the first failure, i thought it was due to lack of enough preparation which led me to purchase the self-test materials and after 4 weeks of preparation i grew in confidence, but only to fail the second time with the same score of 33%. I am almost giving up here. Can some one tell me what else i could do, i mean the actual test is extremely difficult.

  • Nkoh Wednesday, October 1, 2014

No exam should be easy but the nature and setting of this exam suggest to me that oracle is out to extort.

  • Brandye Barrington Wednesday, October 1, 2014

    Nkoh,

I'm sorry to hear that. The exam is designed to be challenging. Have you visited the Oracle Certification Forum http://bit.ly/Lt5vhm and reviewed the resources forum users have recommended? There are Oracle Press Books and Matthew Morris, an avid Forum user, Oracle expert, etc. . . has an exam guide available on Amazon I believe.

Since there are 2 parts to the OCA test, how long after taking the SQL Fundamentals do i have to take the administration portion? I plan to take the st one, then study for a bit before taking the second. Please advice.

  • Brandye Barrington Wednesday, October 8, 2014

There is not a designated time-limit. You can take the 2nd exam at any time. Do keep in mind that if you are pursuing the 10g DBA OCA certification, that the exams retire March 1, 2015.

Hey.. I failed the 1Z0-051 exam in my first attempt and I really think that Oracle SQL-Fundamentals 1 book by Oracle Press is not sufficient to clear this exam. so can u plz recommend me some other book whose difficulty level is as good as the actual exam? how if i go for Kaplan's self test?

  • Brandye Barrington Monday, October 13, 2014

You could use the Kaplan practice test. You may also want to consider the exam prep seminar http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=609&get_params=dc:D76276GC10,p_preview:N.

One more place you may look is the Oracle Certification Forum http://bit.ly/Lt5vhm. There are some good book recommendations on this forum.

  • guest Monday, November 10, 2014

    Hello,

I see that there are 2 paths for OCA certification -

    1. SQL and PL/SQL - Certification Path (which is basically for PLSQL Developer) (https://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=653&get_params=p_id:162#tabs-1)

    2. Oracle Database 11g - Certification Path (which is for DB Administrator)

Now, the step 1 for both of them contain the exam 1Z0-051. My question is, if I first complete the "SQL and PL/SQL - Certification Path", I would have passed the exam "1Z0-051" by then. So if later I decide to go for "Oracle Database 11g - Certification Path", do I again have to appear for "1Z0-051", or only appearing for the "1Z0-052" would complete the DBA OCA certification path?

  • Brandye Barrington Monday, November 10, 2014

No, you don't have to retake the 051 exam. You can take the exam and then decide on which path you wish to take.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Brandye Barrington Thursday, December 18, 2014

There is no certification earned by only passing the 051 exam. You must pass another exam in order to earn an OCA certification.

If you have only passed the 051 exam, you do not yet have a certification. This exam must be paired with another exam to earn a certification. Go to the exam page and you'll see a list of associated certifications. Click on one of the certifications to see the other exam you'll need to take to earn that certification.

    Hi Brandye,

I have a question. After taking a non-proctored exam for 1Z0-051, do I have to undergo classroom training for 1Z0-052 (Oracle Database 11g: Administration I) and take a proctored exam for it for me to be a DBA OCA?

    Thanks.

  • Brandye Barrington Monday, January 26, 2015

You will not have to undergo classroom training to take the 052 exam. However, when you get ready to move to OCP, you'll need to take a training course in order to earn the OCP certification.

Training is not required to take exams, but may be required to earn certain certifications.

Hi , i have got two different IDs from Oracle , but i am able to see only one certificate in Oracle CERVIEW , i have contacted PEARSON on this , they said that I need to merge the TESTING ids , but there after there was no response or update in CERVIEW , Please help me out

  • Brandye Barrington Tuesday, February 3, 2015

    Hi Rahul,

The 1Z0-051 Oracle Database 11g SQL Fundamentals I is an exam rather than a certification. If you pass this exam, you will need to also pass another exam in order to receive a certification. This is the first step in a number of certification paths. If you are pursuing the Oracle Database Administrator OCA certification in 10g, 11g or 12c, you will take this exam and then take 042, 052 or 062, depending on which certification you are pursuing. I would recommend that you have a careful look at out website certification.oracle.com.

Regarding proctored or non-proctored, that is entirely up to you. There are only 2 exams that are available as non-proctored, online from your own location - 051 and 061. If your computer meets the minimum requirements to take a non-proctored exam at your own location, there is no reason you should need to go to a test center.

    Giri,

Did you request for Pearson VUE to merge your IDs? It will normally take about 24 hours for the updates to reflect in CertView once the IDs are merged on the Pearson VUE side. If you requested for Pearson to merge the IDs, and it has been a couple of days since the request, you can contact Oracle Certification Support http://bit.ly/YpaA7i. They may be able to see if the IDs have been merged and help determine why your records are not all showing up.

    Hello,

As mentioned that the passing score is 60%.

Does it creates a difference between a candidate scoring 70% and candidate scoring 80+ % or 90+ %.

  • Michelle M Monday, February 23, 2015

I have taken the test twice and failed both times. It is the hardest test I have ever taken in my life and I agree with the other comments on there that the exam guide DOES NOT totally prepare you for the test. The questions are very technical and long so it takes forever just to analyze them which makes it hard to finish in the allotted time. At $125 for each attempt, this is pretty discouraging. I have even heard that you don't even use most of this stuff in the real world as a DBA so why the heck do we have to pass this exam that is catered to the development side? It just doesn't make any sense to me at all.

  • Brandye Barrington Monday, February 23, 2015

There is no difference in the certification for someone scoring 70 and someone scoring 90. No one ever sees your exam score, unless you show them. Oracle does not provide exam scores to 3rd parties.

Michelle, I'm sorry that you are having so much trouble with this exam. Maybe you can get some preparation recommendations on the Oracle Certification Forum http://bit.ly/Lt5vhm.

Are the questions on the exam CD same as at the end of the book, or are those different than those in the book. I don't want to buy the book, if I don't have to.

    @Shanky,

Sorry for missing your post earlier. This is an impossible question for me to answer. I would suggest that you start to do some research on the types of jobs you'd like to pursue with this certification.

Keep in mind that certification is not a "magic key" that will open the door to riches untold! Some employers may require experience. You may still need to start at an entry level if you don't have experience. Certification is a tool in your toolbelt.

    Regards,

    Brandye Barrington

    Hi Brandye Barrington

My company wants me to qualify "Oracle 1Z0-051 SQL Fundamentals". But I came to know there is no certification with this exam,so how can oracle authenticate I am the genuine person who gave the exam and qualified.

    Regards.

  • Brandye Barrington Friday, March 13, 2015

    Hi Rahul,

You can show your company your score report which you can print in certview.oracle.com. That's the only way to prove that you've taken this exam. Oracle only provides official verification of certifications earned. We do not verify exams passed.

    Hi Brandye,

I took 1Z0-051 and could not pass it. There were many "select all that apply format" questions, I did not understand how this format works.

Suppose if I chose one right option but assume there are three right answers then am I going to get points for selected option or no points at all.

If I select two right and one wrong then how it affects my points.

If I select all options including right and wrong then how it effects.

    Thanks.

Hi , I am planning to give the exam 1z0-051. AS there are 2 parts for SQL fundamentals exam if i clear the exam 1z0-051 do i get a certificate ? Does this certificate have any validation date on it?

  • Brandye Barrington Tuesday, April 14, 2015

Hi Punam, we do not give partial credit for exam items. For the questions that are 'select all that apply' you would need to have all the selections correct.

Guest, you will not get a certificate for passing exam 051. You will need to pass another exam to earn a certification.

Q2.Is there any time limit to give the 2nd part exam?

Q3. after passing 1st part can i write on my resume that i did oracle fundamental 1 exam?

Q4.for a software testing job is there any other recommended SQL

    certification?

    thanks

  • guest Thursday, April 23, 2015

    Hi Megha,

    1. You will get a score report for exam 051. This is not a proof of certification, it is only an exam score.

    2. There is no time limit to take the 2nd exam.

    3. If you pass exam 051, you can indicate that you have passed this exam by name, but you cannot misrepresent yourself as certified.

    4. I am not able to answer that question. You could ask it on the Oracle Certification Forum http://bit.ly/Lt5vhm. Your peers there may be able to assist.

  • Brandye Barrington Wednesday, June 17, 2015

    Jason, Congratulations!

Neelamegha, The statement you mention below is a little misleading. You can say "Passed exam Oracle Database 11g: SQL (1Z0-051)." This statement should, in no way indicate that you hold a certification. Until you pass the next exam in your certification path, you will not be certified.

    Congratulations on passing the exam!

  • Manoj Nair Sunday, July 12, 2015

I intend to go for OCA certification. I am confused between 1Z0-061 and 1Z0-051.

Currently I have only planned for the SQL fundamentals examinations as currently I am unable to find a local coaching center for Oracle 12c. If I cannot find a center for 12c, I may eventually go for 11g. In such a scenario which of the above two exams would be recommeded?

If I go for 1Z0-061, can I give OCA with Oracle 11g?

If I go for 1Z0-051, can I go for OCA with Oracle 12c?

Whats the benefit of one of the other, if any?

  • Brandye Barrington Monday, July 13, 2015

    Manoj,

It is my understanding that these exams are very similar. You can actually take either exam as a prerequisite for either 11g or 12c path. You can take either exam and decide after you've passed this exam which version of the certification you wish to pursue.

    Hello Mr.Brandye Barrington

what i suppose to do for Oracle dba certification

Do i have to gave Fundamental 1 and Fundamental 2 both the exam for single certification.

  • Brandye Barrington Wednesday, September 9, 2015

You first need to decide if you'd like to pursue the 11g or 12c certification. This will determine which exams you take. You will start with the OCA certification which requires a SQL exam and the Fundamentals I exam. Then to earn OCP, you'll need to pass the Fundamentals II exam (it's called something different for 12c) and complete relevant training.

I had given Oracle 11g SQL Fundamentals 1. But in certification history its not showing up. I had scored 64% which means I had passed the exam. Can you tell me what needs to be done?

  • Brandye Barrington Friday, September 25, 2015

    Hi Paresh,

You won't see anything in certification history. You should find this in exam history. It takes 2 exams to earn the 11g OCA certification.

    Regards,

    Brandye Barrington

    Hi Brandye,

Can you please tell me which is the other exam other than Oracle 11g SQL Fundamentals 1 required for 11g OCA certification.

    Thanks,

    Paresh

I want to write Oracle 1z0-051, is there any free testing tools. All I see was kalpana's which is more than certification exam price. I can't pay that much. I need some questions to prepare for certifacation

  • guest Wednesday, December 16, 2015

Hi Paresh, Sorry, We missed this comment/question. For 11g DBA OCA certification, you'll need to pass a SQL exam as well as 1z0-053.

Siva, there are sample questions linked from the exam page http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=303&p_certName=SQ1Z0_051. Other than that, the exam page offers several good preparation options. You will need more than sample questions to prepare for this exam.

  • Shakila Friday, January 8, 2016

    Hi,

Are there any pre-requisites that needs to be fullfilled before taking Exam 051/ 052 and 053?

    Regards,

    Shakila

  • guest Tuesday, January 12, 2016

    Hi Shakila,

There are no prerequisites for taking exams. However, you will need to complete the required training in order to earn the OCP certification.

    Regards,

    Brandye Barrington

  • guest Thursday, January 14, 2016

There is no certificate for passing exam 051. On its own, it does not result in a certification. In order to receive a certification and a certificate, you'll need to pass the second exam in your path. Good luck on your certification path. Sorry for the delay in responding. We are catching up from the holidays.

  • guest Wednesday, February 10, 2016

    what is proctored wxam?

  • Brandye Barrington Monday, February 15, 2016

    Sachin,

you will not receive a certification after passing only the 051 SQl Fundamentals exam. You will need to pass another exam along with this one in order to earn a certification.

A proctored exam is an exam taken at a testing center with a proctor or "watcher" present.

Hi sir i done my 051 11g exam but i not cleared it ,so guide me how can clear it by scoring high ,which book i should study and practice it.

  • guest Monday, February 22, 2016

    Hi Prem,

    1) You could take the recommended training and carefully review all the exam topics listed on the exam page http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=5001&get_params=p_exam_id:1Z0-051&sc=WWOU15043965MPP001C002.

    2) You could also visit the Oracle Certification Discussion Community https://forums.oracle.com/forums/forum.jspa?forumID=459. There has been a good deal of discussion around this in the past and I'm sure you'll find some good information.

    Good luck on your preparation.

    Hi All,

I cleared SQL Fundamentals Certified Associate exam with 71% in the year 2014 but till date i did not receive my certificate nor badge. I logged into Oracle cert view account. I could not find the certificate instead i found my test results only.

How to get my certificate. Please help!!

    Thanks in advance!!

  • guest Tuesday, March 8, 2016

If the SQL Fundamentals exam you passed is 051 or 061, this is only the first exam in your path and will result in certification only when you've passed the second exam in your certification path.

    Hi Barrington,

I am planing to go with 1Z0-051 as I practised 11g, But somewhere I feel it is a bad idea because I am afraid in near future all the certifications regarding 11g will not be conducted or will not be valid (After pursuing 1Z0-051 I am planning to go ahead and do further certifications in 11g like Oracle PL/SQL Developer Certified Associate,Oracle Database 11g Administrator Certified Associate), So what I want to confirm is in future will 1Z0-051 will no longer be useful, and is it better to go for 1Z0-061(Oracle 12c)?

  • guest Tuesday, March 22, 2016

    Hi,

I would like to take an exam of Oracle Database 11g: SQL Fundamentals I 1Z0-051 via online (non-proctored exam). My questions are:

    1) Do I need to attend the training provided by oracle university before taking this exam. Can I just sit for the exam without training?

    2) If training is compulsory, where I can attend the training? Do I need to pay for training also?

    2) If I pass this exam, what is the next exam to take in order to get the certificate?

    Thanks.

  • guest Tuesday, March 22, 2016

Rahul, I don't foresee the 11g certifications retiring any time soon. If you feel that this is the best version of certification for you, that is the version you should pursue.

Guest, You can take an exam without taking training. You will need to complete training before earning the OCP version of certification. You can find training at www.oracle.com/education. This exam is the first exam in several exam paths. You can have a look at the exam page to find out what the associated certifications are.

    https://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=5001&get_params=p_exam_id:1Z0-051&sc=WWOU15043965MPP001C002

    Hi,

I had received OCA certification last year and have intention to take an OCP exam this year. Is there any gap to take for OCP exam? or any time will do? What is the training/exam that I should attend for OCP course?

    Thanks.

  • Venkat Sunday, March 27, 2016

    Hi Brandye,Team,

I planning to go for OCA certification on SQL and PL/SQL for which firstly I am going to register for "Oracle Database 11g: SQL Fundamentals I 1Z0-051" exam as advised at http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=653&get_params=p_id:228 .

Will I get any certificate or an acknowledgement once I pass this 1Z0-051 exam? If yes, in how many days?

As this exam amount is going to be reimbursement by our company, I need to submit passing certificate to process. Kindly let me know to the earliest. Thanks in advance.

    Kind Regards,

    Venkat

    Hi,

I am not into administration part of Oracle.

My date-today activities involves SQL(mostly) and Pl/Sql, please guide me on Certification path.

    Thanks,

    Name Withheld.

  • guest Wednesday, March 30, 2016

Nurul, you can do the OCP exam any time as long as your OCA path has not retired. You will view the track page for the OCP path you wish to follow in order to see the requirements and see the list of courses that will fulfill the training requirement. On the exam page, you can see the course that is recommended to best help you prepare for the exam.

You can view a list of all available certifications on our website http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=632&sc=WWOU15043965MPP001C002. Click on the certification you wish to pursue to see the track page. From there, click on the exam to be taken to the exam page.

Venkat, you will get a score report for this exam to show that you took and passed the exam. You will only receive a certificate after you've completed all the requirements in your certification path.

'Name Withheld,' You may wish to follow the developer path.

    Hi my name Thobo

Am preparing to write exam 1Z0-051 i want to know how the questions are scored if the questions has more than one answer.

    regards

    Thobo

  • Brandye Barrington Wednesday, July 20, 2016

Beruk, your exam results do not expire. You have until the 052 exam retires to follow this path. At this time, there is no planned retirement date for the 052 exam.

Thobo, question on Oracle certification exams are scored as a whole. For example, if a question required multiple responses, all responses must be correct in order to get the item correct.

    Hi Raghul,

You can move onto the next level any time you're ready as long as your training was completed with an approved Oracle training center.

    Regards,

    Brandye Barrington

  • Brandye Barrington Friday, August 5, 2016

Regarding the errors in program tests and book tests, I'm not sure what materials you're referring to, but we have found that unauthorized materials (brain dumps) are notoriously bad information.

    Stick with Oracle Authorized materials.

    Hello all

i want to ask about the scoring policy and how its done in the exam 1z0-051

    BR

    Hagag

  • Brandye Barrington Tuesday, September 20, 2016

Jerine, there is no difference if you take the exam as proctored or non-proctored. You can take it at a test center or at a location of your choosing.

Hagag, the exam is scored as a percentage of questions you get correct.

    Regards,

    Brandye Barrington

  • Brandye Barrington Tuesday, September 20, 2016

This exam can be taken on your computer at a location of your choice. If you choose to take at a Pearson VUE testing center, you'll need to look at www.pearsonvue.com/oracle/locate.

I just cleared 1Z0-051 SQL Fundamentals 1 in October this year. Can someone tell me do we get any certification from Oracle after the completion of this exam. I would really appreciate all the responses. thanks

  • Brandye Barrington Wednesday, October 19, 2016

There is not a certification earned by passing only the 051 exam. You will receive your certification and ecertificate once you pass the next exam in your path. You're off to a great start. Keep going!
