Java, Oracle Solaris, MySQL and Other Former Sun Certification Exam Registrations Now Available At Pearson VUE

Java, Oracle Solaris, MySQL, and NetBeans certification exams are now available for registration through our new test delivery vendor (Pearson VUE) and soon will no longer be available through Prometric. Visit now to find more information, register for an exam and locate a testing center in your area. Here are the answers to some frequently asked questions that we've recently received:

  • Action Required: If you don't already have a Pearson VUE web account, please create one now in order to migrate your previous Prometric account into your new Pearson VUE profile. Select MyAccount on, select Create A New Web Account and follow the prompts to create a profile and enter your contact information. Refer to these detailed steps for reference.
  • Existing Pearson VUE accounts: If you already have a Pearson VUE web account as the result of taking an exam for Oracle or another organization:
    • Use that same web account to schedule any future exams. If you have forgotten your username or password, please select the “I forgot my username” or “I forgot my password” rather than creating a duplicate account (which could delay your certification).
    • Once you are logged into your Pearson VUE account, make note of your Oracle Testing ID Number, listed at the top of the page immediately after logging in. This unique identifier is important for all of your Oracle testing records.
  • Processing times: Please note that due to high volumes, creating a new Pearson VUE web account and processing the merges of some Pearson VUE accounts may take longer than the standard one-day turnaround time to process.
  • Exam vouchers: Oracle exam vouchers authorized for Prometric testing centers will continue to be valid at Pearson VUE until the printed voucher expiration date.
  • Important Dates: To help prepare you for this transition, here are some important dates for you to be aware of:
    • If you are currently following a certification path and are planning to take an exam on/after June 1: Registration has begun at Pearson VUE for all scheduled exams on or after June 1. Visit to create a new web account and get started.
    • If you are currently registered to take an exam with Prometric or planning to take an exam before June 1: You can continue to register at Prometric through May 23, 2011 (walk-in registrations will be permitted through May 31, 2011), but you must complete your exam by May 31, 2011.
  • Certification and Exam History: Certification history (not exam history) from Prometric is automatically being ported over into Oracle's CertView system and will be available for viewing soon (date TBD). Note that this previous certification history from Prometric will NOT be available for viewing online at Pearson VUE.
  • Terminology - Pearson VUE "web account/log-in" versus "candidate profile": On Pearson VUE's website, your "candidate profile" is your actual certification demographic data, whereas the web account/log-in we're asking you to create is simply the log-in credentials that you need in order to access that profile. If you already have a profile at Pearson VUE, please do not create a second one as it will create a delay as the duplicates get resolved.

Hi: 0. I have passed exam 1Z0-864(known as CX-310-052) with Prometric in November 2010. 1. I have purchased the assignment with a CREDIT CARD in November 2010 (NOT a voucher) and I'm not finished it yet. How I send it to Pearson without a voucher number? Please note: I have NOT used a voucher, I have used a valid CREDIT CARD. 2. I have created a Pearson web account BUT I CAN NOT SEE THE EXAM PART 2 to send the assignment. 3. The assignment CLEARLY stated that "You must complete your essay exam (part III) at Prometric PRIOR to sending us your assignment. Your assignment will NOT be graded without your having completed the essay exam (310-062)". 4. I have to schedule the essay exam 310-062 (1Z0-866) with Pearson but I get this message from Pearson website: "Oracle Certificacion Program policy requieres that a 1Z0-865 exam be graded before registration for exam" 5. How can the assignment be graded (1Z0-865) WITHOUT having completed the essay examn (1Z0-866)?

Dear Guest, This is indeed confusing. We are sorry for the conflicting messages. However, with the switch to Pearson VUE, the process has changed a bit. On Pearson VUE's system, candidates may not register for the essay until the assignment has been submitted. If you have completed your assignment, there is a new process for submitting. 1. Request a voucher from to submit your Assignment. 2. You have already created your Pearson VUE web account, so on June 1, you will be able to access the Assignment online at, selecting exam 1Z0-848. 3. Using your voucher to access this test number will place you in a special form of the Assignment, where you can upload your completed work. 4. After uploading this assignment, you will be able to register for the essay. Regards, Brandye Barrington

I have successfully taken the Exam CX-310-200, Solaris System Administration, Part I on OCT 2009. The exam was provided by Prometric at that time. I need to know if I can take the Exam 1Z0-878
Oracle Solaris 10 System Administrator Certified Professional, Part II, for the purpose of completing the System Administration. My question is if the Exam taken in 2009 is still valid for the purpose of completing the Solaris System Administration Certification.
Thank you.

Your CX-310-200 exam is still valid. You can pass the 878 exam to complete your certification. There are a couple of important points to pay attention to. When you create your web account at Pearson VUE, you should include your Prometric ID and include your profile information (first name, last name, email address, city) exactly as it was in your profile at Prometric. If you need assistance with this information, you can contact You should take the 878 exam under the same ID that your Part I exam was taken under. You will be able to verify that both exams are under the same ID when these records are available at Please do not try to access your CertView account at this time because the records are not currently available in CertView. The announcement will be made on this blog, along with instructions to authorize your account, when the records are available on CertView. Regards,

If you have already taken your exam, I'm not sure why you need the voucher number. Did you use a voucher to pay for your exam? If so, the voucher is no longer valid.
