Hello, I purchased the book OCA Oracle Database 11g: SQL Fundamentals I Exam Guide (Exam 1Z0-051) and the practice exam that comes with the book requires an 80% score to pass but on the Oracle University site it says 60% is a passing score. Do you know if this just an error in the book or have the passing requirements changed? Steve

Posted by S Bair on March 02, 2009 at 02:35 AM PST #

Hi Steve - 60% is the correct number. I think that 80% might just be a figure for the practice test in the book itself [not for the real exam]. Cheers, - Harold

Hello everybody, someone knows if the Practice Test in the book is similiar (easier, harder, etc) compared with the Real Exam 1Z0-051???? I mean the level of the questions...

Hi, I had failed it once for the first time. I just gave this exam and passed it. Do I receive a certificate? I took the non proctored version. Thanks Rahul

I have this book and am not very impressed with it. The practice exam included on the CD has errors in it, for example: one question in particular has a multiple choice of A,B,C or D. You choose D as the correct answer, but it is marked incorrect. The study guide states: Correct answer: A,B & C Explanation: D is the correct answer because.... There are a number of similar faults with this and the bonus downloadable practice test. I took the test once so far and failed it, extremely suprised at how different the questions are to the practice tests. This book does not strike me as a very good exam guide at all. I'd be interested to know if anyone else has been as unimpressed as I have with this book?

Posted by Steve on April 09, 2009 at 05:00 PM PDT #

Hi Steve - that sounds quite frustrating! I'm not sure which book you're referring to. as this blog post is about an exam. Can you help clarify? Cheers, - Harold

Hi Chandra - so far I'm only aware of the materials that Oracle itself has published as part of the class. I haven't yet seen any standalone study guides.

Hi All, some of the links in this article are outdated. Prometric no longer hosts the exams. Pearson VUE is the testing partner now: http://www.pearsonvue.com/oracle/ Erik

I just took this test unproctored online and failed. It was extremely difficult in my opinion. Very few of the questions were straighforward. Seemed more tailored to the developer crowd. I have already passed the Admin tests but tthis one has me worried. Any suggestions on how to prepare. I used Transcender's testing suite but obviously that didn't work. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Posted by Tom K. on November 18, 2009 at 04:00 PM PST #

I took the test today and I failed. I found the test very difficult. Maybe it's just my lack of experience but I couldn't get through the test. I had 14 minutes left and 20 question to still answer. The questions require a lot of analysing because there is lots of code to sift through. I will try again but good luck to the rest of you, you are going to need it.

Posted by Henri on December 14, 2009 at 09:02 PM PST #

I had the same experience doing the test. All my example exams and test exams, I passed easilly, but the online exam was more difficult than I expected. Almost 80% were practical questions, very large queries with multiple functions and subqueries. I had 4 minutes left, because you really need all the time there is to read all the questions and to study the exibits. I'm also searching for example exams to practice for my next exam. Any suggestions? Regards, Bas

Hi I am a fresher. I would like to do OCA. Could you please let me know how to start with and what are the steps to be taken?

(1) How many tests are required for Oracle 11g OCA? (2) How many different types Oracl 11 OCA? Thanks!

Posted by Jason on January 20, 2010 at 07:47 AM PST #

Hi Jason - two exams are required for the Oracle 11g Database OCA. (and there is only one "type" of 11g OCA; just multiple options for getting there). REF: http://bit.ly/fadC

Posted by Paul Sorensen on January 20, 2010 at 11:00 PM PST #

The actual test questions are more difficult than any questions I've encountered on practice systems and the "SQL Fundamentals I Exam Guide" from Oracle Press is not enough material to use to pass the test despite the tag "Complete Exam Preparation" on the cover. The examples in the book do not cover enough scenarios nor do they prepare you for the format in which most questions are asked on the test.

Hi there, After 3 weeks full time preparation I tried the Ora 11g SQL Fundamentals exam today and failed with 54% scored (60% required). In my eyes the exam is very very difficult. Im am seeing there are others who struggled. Anyone has a tipp how I could prepare for another try? I used Kaplan Software (selftestsoftware.com) but the exam was far far more difficult than the preparation questions. So I am disappointed with this preparation software. Cheers, Walter

Posted by Walter on May 12, 2010 at 01:21 AM PDT #

Walter, I'm sorry to hear about your recent experience with our product and exam attempt. We aim to duplicate the exam experience in both our engine interface and difficulty level of the content. As test takers ourselves, we sympathize with the time and financial commitment involved with certification, and we strive to ensure that our products fully prepares you for a successful exam attempt on your FIRST try. To that end, our relationship with the Oracle certification development team allows us to ensure that our products align with their most current exam versions. Unfortunately, exams are not static and changes or updates will occasionally put our product out of sync with the live exams. When vendors change their exams after our product is released we rely on our customers and vendor news to notify us of changes. We’ve received very little feedback regarding our 1Z0-051 product, and of that feedback none of it (in the last 6 months) addresses the difficulty level of the live exam vs. our practice test. I would encourage you to focus on the topic areas where your scores were the lowest & make a second attempt at the exam. Should you not pass, we would certainly honor the Test Pass Guarantee and would encourage that you contact us directly with any suggestions on how we could approach a revision to our product. You can direct your email to Content Development via the Contact Us link on our web site, or ask that Paul or Harold share my contact info directly to ensure that my team receives your inquiry. Can we give Oracle 9i(O1z0-007) SQL exam & then the 11g Admin exam for 11g OCA? Or Do we need to give 1z0-051 SQL exam ? Plsssss reply soon !!

Posted by Sneha on May 30, 2010 at 11:12 PM PDT #

Hi Sneha - based on the 11g OCA track at http://bit.ly/fadC, you can take either "Introduction to Oracle9i SQL" (1Z0-007) or "Oracle Database 11g: SQL Fundamentals I" (1Z0-051) to get credit for the first exam, but both exams are not needed. You then take "Oracle Database 11g: Administration I" (1Z0-052) to complete the certification tracks requirements.

Posted by Paul Sorensen on June 01, 2010 at 12:34 AM PDT #

Some exams are proctored, and a few are non-proctored, but the same exam is not both "proctored" and "non-proctored." So it depends on which certification track you are pursuing (which dictates which exams must be completed).

Posted by Paul Sorensen on June 01, 2010 at 12:37 AM PDT #

Hi Neha - don't let the comments intimidated you. If you want to make sure you pass the exam, be sure and use the Exam Topics section of http://bit.ly/ZNgtQ as a checklist, and make sure that you can successfully complete each of those requirements before you attempt the exam. Every test question comes directly from those Exam Topics. What I'm not quite sure about is whether some of these exam guides cover each of these exam topics sufficiently. For that question, it might be good to also check over in the Oracle Technology Network (OTN) Certification Forum at http://bit.ly/HGWo. We are about to release a new video in the next few weeks on "Preparing For Certification" that I think you'll find quite helpful, so be watching for that. Good luck!

Hello Everyone, I was thinking of giving the OCA exams 1Z0-051: SQL Fundamentals AND 1Z0-052: Administrator I in a couple of months. And I was wondering if the material that is present in the books released by Oracle Press be enough to pass the exam. Or am I going to need some more practice material to clear it. I have gone through the blog and saw that a lot of them have had problems with the difficulty level of the exam. And I was thinking if we would also need to be an expert at PL/SQL to pass the exam? Thanks in advance!!

Posted by Kshitij on July 29, 2010 at 10:01 PM PDT #

Hi Kshitij and that's a good question and one we get quite a lot. Please check out our latest video update that shares more information on this.

Posted by Paul Sorensen on July 30, 2010 at 03:39 AM PDT #

Thanks for the link Paul. I've seen the video and I think I can start preparing now. I had another question about scheduling the test though, Can I take the 1Z0-051: SQL Fundamentals exam in say October and take the 1Z0-052: Administrator I exam in January next year? Or do I have to give both the exams within the same week or month. Is there any such rule regarding the scheduling policy for the OCA.

Kindly advice whether i can reappear the exam any day through the unproctored links or else i have to wait for the next 14 days to reappear again the exam? Also please tell me whether i will get any discount for reappearing the exam or else I have to pay in full again? Waiting eagerly for your reply.

Posted by soumen nanda on August 26, 2010 at 10:44 PM PDT #

HI Soumen, sorry you didn't pass that time but you sure were close! Per our re-take policy you may retake an online non-proctored exam at any time, and the full exam fee is paid for each attempt.

Posted by Paul Sorensen on August 27, 2010 at 02:44 AM PDT #

What is the difference between the proctored and the nonproctored 1z0-051 exam? I just took the proctored exam and did not pass. I took three of the Transcender Practice Exams and scored in the 60s and 70s.

Posted by Jeanette Reed on September 03, 2010 at 12:02 PM PDT #

Posted by Santina on October 22, 2010 at 09:29 AM PDT #

Hi, I'd like to give a positive feedback to oracle. I am in my last phase of preparation to both OCA exams (1z0-051 and 1z0-052). I got a testking engine for 051 and the Oracle Press Training Book (Watson) for 052. The 51 exam looks very hard for me, then I will do the 52 first, but I was looking for info on 51 and got this URL. The blog is very nice and I really congratulate Paul and Harold for the posts. As usual, I have 2 questions: 1-What is the percentage to pass 52 test? 2-What happens if, while I am taking the 51 non-proctored exam, my computer reboots? Can I just restart, log back and continue the exam or will it be rolledback by SMON (a joke to show how prepared I am for 52 exam)? Thanks and GREAT JOB guys. This makes me strive more to be an Oracle Certified Associate.

Posted by Leo on November 14, 2010 at 03:36 PM PST #

Hey Paul, I am going to give the 1Z0-051 in the next month(haven't selected a date yet). I stay in a place which hasn't got a test center (or maybe it does but has been closed cause it doesn't show an appointment date). Because of that I was thinking of giving the non-proctored exam. But, I had my doubts about the exam; if the non-proctured exam is given as much recognition as the proctured exam. Can you please help me decide on what kind of exam should I be taking Proctored or Non-proctored? I don't have a problem in travelling to another city. Another question, is there a student discount for both these tests? Thanks Kshitij Sharma

Posted by Kshitij Sharma on November 16, 2010 at 08:26 AM PST #

Kshitij - that exam (1Z0-051) receives the same amount of credit whether it is taken online (un-proctored) or in a Pearson VUE test center (proctored).

Posted by Paul Sorensen on November 16, 2010 at 08:53 AM PST #

Hi Paul, I passed unproctored 1z0-051 exam yesterday and I got 89%. I'm really happy with this score because I found questions are more difficult than any practice questions I did before. Now, my question is if this unproctored exam valid for OCA certificate? Someone told me I have to pass this exam at authorized test center instead of online after I finished the exam. Honestly I was very frustrated when I heard that. Is that true? Do I have to retake this exam at test center? I'm so confused now. Thanks, Emily

Posted by Emily on December 06, 2010 at 09:25 PM PST #

Hi Emily, You do not need to pass this exam in a test center in order for your results to be valid toward certification. However, you do need to also pass exam 052 in order to obtain your certification. The 051 exam is valid and you are ready to move on to 052 if you have not already passed it. Regards, Brandye

Posted by Brandye Barrington on December 08, 2010 at 03:42 AM PST #

Hi Brandye, Thanks for your reply. I wonder if I can take exam 147 instead of 052. Our DBA recommanded me to obtain PL/SQL Developer OCA certification first. I just want to double check with you if it's possible to get PL/SQL Developer OCA certification if I passed 052 and 147. Thanks, Emily

Posted by Emily on December 19, 2010 at 09:10 PM PST #

Hi Emily, Yes, you are correct. In order to obtain the PL/SQL Developer OCA, you can use exams 051 and 147. The path I provided with 051 and 052 is the DBA OCA path. Regards, Brandye Barrington

Hi Paul, How can i do an Exam on-line without going to any testing centre, Because i need to pay directly to oracle, we do not have a testing site in Uganda

Posted by Paul on January 06, 2011 at 05:57 PM PST #

Hi Paul, You can take the 051 exam online without going to a test center. You would register online at www.pearsonvue.com/oracle and select 'Non-Proctored' exams. However, in order to obtain a certification, you would need to take your 2nd exam at a testing center. I see that there are a few testing centers in Uganda. There are a few in Kampala and one in Kigali. Go to www.pearsonvue.com/oracle and select Locate a Test Center. You can also contact Oracle University http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=225#5b to see if there may be an Oracle Testing Center in your area. I was not able to find one, but an OU rep would be more helpful in this area. Good luck with your exam. Regards, Brandye Barrington

Tony, I will let others comment on how they prepared for their exams, but one of the sites you mention is a known braindump site and not a practice test site as they claim. Using braindumps is cheating, so be very careful when choosing a practice test. One way to avoid braindumps is to check practice test sites through CertGuard's braindump ID system http://www.certguard.com/search.asp. Good luck with your exams. You may also want to post this question to our forum for feedback http://forums.oracle.com/forums/forum.jspa?forumID=459. Regards, Brandye Barrington

Posted by Bimss on May 16, 2011 at 08:35 PM PDT #

Bimss, to determine the differences in these two exams, you should review the exam topics for each. You could also search this topic on our Certification Forum http://bitly.com/iRHsSl. Many questions have been asked about which of these exams to take. One main difference is that if you take the 047 exam, you will obtain the SQL Expert certification. So, if you go on to complete the OCA path you are pursuing, you will end up with two certifications. The caveat is that the 047 exam is a harder exam. Regards, Brandye Barrington

Posted by guest on May 31, 2011 at 07:03 PM PDT #

Gloria, First I would like to address dumps. Please be aware that use of dumps is considered cheating. If Oracle discovers that a candidate has cheated on her exam(s) scores can be revoked, candidates can be decertified and candidates can be banned from testing for a period of time. Regarding the exams having been merged - they have not. Those exams are still delivered as separate exams. Vinay, Proctored exams are delivered at a Pearson VUE testing center with a proctor present. Non-proctored exams are available online without a proctor. hi,

i wanted to know if by just giving the izo-051 certification, do we get a certificate for passing?..

is it the same for IZO-047??.......
please help me as soon as possible....!

Posted by Bhavin Palan on July 20, 2011 at 06:55 PM PDT #

Bhavin,
To clarify, 1Z0-051 is not a certification. It is a certification exam that, paired with exam 1Z0-052, leads to 11g DBA OCA certification. You will not receive a certificate after passing only the 1Z0-051 exam.

Exam 1Z0-047 serves a dual purpose. It can be used as the first exam, the SQL exam requirement, in the 11g DBA OCA path instead of 1Z0-051. Exam 047 also leads to the SQL Expert certification on its own. So, if you pass the 047 exam, you will receive the SQL expert certificate. You may then go on to pass the 1Z0-052 exam to obtain the 11g DBA OCA certification.

"To clarify, 1Z0-051 is not a certification. It is a certification exam that, paired with exam 1Z0-052, leads to 11g DBA OCA certification."

How does that differ from a Windows 7 Exam working towards MCTS Certifications?

Do you get a "document" that says you passed 1Z0-051?

Posted by guest on August 01, 2011 at 03:28 AM PDT #

I cannot speak to Microsoft offerings. However, I wanted to clarify that there is not a certificate provided for passing the 051 exam on its own. This is a common misconception that needs to be clarified.

Upon passing any Oracle Certification exam, candidates will receive a score report indicating the exam score. You can also access your score report on the Pearson VUE website at pearsonvue.com/oracle>Print Score Report.

I have cleared OCA (1z0-007 and 1z0-147) in 2007. Is this certification valid still? Is it ok for me to pass only 1z0-146 for OCP?

Posted by Sushil on August 22, 2011 at 08:45 PM PDT #

Sushil,
The OCA certification is still valid and you can obtain the OCP certification by passing the 146 exam. You can view this path on this page http://bit.ly/1oyl6E.

hello guys.. serious help needed regarding my doubt..
I wanted to write SQL Fundamentals 11g (i.e First exam choice for OCA) I had nice preparation.. To write this exam do I have to pay course OCA coaching fee in any of the certified oracle affiliated training institute to become eligible to write the exam? Or can I register directly in the Pearson VUE website and pay the exam fee and take the exam? Is the coaching necessary to become eligible to take this test? Please help and answer my question..
Thanks a lot for your time :)

Posted by guest on August 23, 2011 at 08:06 AM PDT #

Courses are not required in order to take exams. In a certification path that includes a course requirement, you may take any/all exams without completing training. However, in order to obtain the certification, you must complete the training. You may take the 051 exam without completing a training requirement. Also, the 11g DBA OCA certification does not require training. So, if you pass the 051 and 052 exams, you will obtain the 11g DBA OCA certification.

I took the 051 exam (unproctored) yesterday.

The practice tests I had used as part for my preparation were really misleading - I was using the official preparation book.

The exam is difficult. The majority questions will generally offer exhibits and will present multiple scenarios in single and often quite long questions.

The problem I had was the time limit. Under 2 mins per question seems like too short an amount of time. It was taking me longer than this to read most of the information involved in the question. With 3 mins to go I was still in the 40s out of 70 questions. I still managed to score 40% which kind of gives me optimism.

I will retake in few weeks as I now know what to expect and I won't rely on my practice test scores as a judge of my knowledge.

Can I ask one thing are the proctored exams delivered on a computer or are they paper based? I found reading and comprehending the info on screen (often in two tabbed pages) quite difficult.

Posted by Adam on August 30, 2011 at 11:03 PM PDT #

Hi Adam,
Sorry you had trouble finishing the exam. We actually have an industry-standard process that we go through to set the duration of each exam and every question is reviewed by a subject matter expert for validity and to ensure that we've allowed enough time for each question (more for some less for others.)

One thing you can to to help you prepare is to have a look on our Certification Forum http://bit.ly/oDYL8C for books recommended by other candidates. This may help you to perform better on your next attempt.

Hello Brandye,

1. After paying for 1Z0-051 exam fee on Pearson Vue website, will i receive an URL or something to start my non-proctored 1Z0-051 exam ?
2. What if something goes wrong (exam link just got hanged/internet is gone/computer issue) during non-proctored exam ? can i start it again later ?

Please let me know. Thanks!

I am planning to giving 1Z0-051.
Can any one please suggest from where can i get the study materials and practice questions for the preparation.

Posted by Ambika on September 01, 2011 at 06:34 PM PDT #

I passed the 1z0-051 yesterday on the second try. I only got 55% on the first attempt. I found the questions to be reasonable but time mamangement is the key. I noticed that it takes lot time to review the table structure and relationship(especially when its on the second tab). As soon as I finish the first exam, I retook the exam again as I was confident that I could pass if I manage time properly. I got 70% on the second try. There is also a MARK option that can be used to park the questions you would like to review & answer at the end. Good luck!

@Mihir, Sorry for the delay in responding. Somehow I missed this post. Once you purchase your 051 exam, you will be able to go back to your account at pearsonvue.com/oracle and access the exam. If you lose connectivity during your non-proctored exam, go back to www.pearsonvue.com/oracle and click on “Schedule a Test.” You will be asked to sign in again, and then be redirected back to your exam where you left off.

@Ambika and Raul, you can find suggested training and exam topics on our website at certification.oracle.com and you can find suggestions for books and other preparation advice on our Certification Forum at http://bit.ly/oDYL8C. My suggestion would be to first review the exam topics and determine where your knowledge gaps are, then determine what additional training/prep is needed.

However, if the exam can be taken online at home, why do people go to the test center? Is there any advantage of proctored option?

Hi Brandye, I have another question regarding the purchasing the eVoucher. Due to currency fluctuation, people may select to pay US$ to save money. We can do this at the home page: education.oracle.com. If we select US region, then the eVoucher is priced in US$. If we select other regions, then it is priced in the local currency. Any problem if I select US$ but I am not located in US?

Posted by guest on October 31, 2011 at 03:58 PM PDT #

@Kaka, You can search our Certification Forum for recommendations on books for SQL http://bit.ly/oDYL8C.

@Jimmy, Some people prefer to go to the test center because they may be concerned about sufficient/consistent internet connection. If you are confident about your connection and machine's performance, you should be fine taking it at home.

@guest, You should purchase the voucher in the country where you are taking the test. Often, the price in the US may be different from the price in your country, so the US-purchased voucher will not work and you will not be able to get the voucher replaced, you will have to purchase another.

hi i did training for oracle 9i sql and plsql back in 2010,at that time giving IZ0-007 Oracle9i SQL + IZ0-147 Introduction to PLSQL made you a OCA certified. i wish to become an administrator not developer.

I am unable to find whether it is still possible to get the OCA title doing these exams.

Additionally is there any difference in reality in 1zo-007 and 1z0-051,because the syllabus looks the same.

please help me with this,thanks.

Posted by kanu on December 13, 2011 at 07:02 PM PST #

Kanu,
If you wish to obtain the 11g DBA OCA certification, then you can do so by passing one SQL exam and also passing the 052 exam. You have fulfilled the SQL exam requirement with the 007 exam, so you simply need to take the 052 exam to become 11g DBA OCA.

Just passed 051 this Monday with 67%. It is much harder than I expected. I used transcender and typically got more than 80% with time to spare, but in real exam I only finished 28 questions after the 1st hour and with a lot of answers I am not sure of. I picked up the pace in the 2nd hour and barely finished it.

Transcender doesn't impress me --- many errors in questions and answers. I wish I can find a better practice exam software.

Paramita,
We have found that Kaplan typically has very high quality products, which is why we partner with them to product practice exams. I would suggest that you contact Kaplan with your complaints about their Transcender tests - especially if you've found some incorrect questions/answers. I'm sure that they'd appreciate the feedback and would like to research any items that my need to be updated.

Hi Medo,
I think the 051 exam will cover things that were not in the training you completed, but some of the training will probably overlap. You can compare the course topics to the 051 exam topics. This will give you an idea of where your training gaps are.

Hi,

I would like to go for Exam 1Z0-051. Do we receive any study material after registration. Also, in how much time duration do we need to give our exam. What is the expiration of registration

Posted by guest on March 16, 2012 at 04:50 AM PDT #

The suggested training and exam topics are on our website http://bit.ly/ZNgtQ. You will not receive any additional materials after registering. You will also find the exam details on this page, like duration, number of questions and passing score. When you register for the exam, Pearson VUE will provide the registration expiration date if there is one. I would suggest registering for the exam when you are ready to take it rather than registering too far ahead.

Ashish,
You can take either exam. The training you completed tho is on an earlier version. the 051 exam is based on 11g, so there may be some differences. You can compare the exam topics for the two exams to determine how different they are. You can also go to the Certification Forum http://bit.ly/oDYL8C and do a quick search. Hi,
I have completed Test Izo-147 (Introduction to Oracle 9i) in 2008.
Is this exam still valid? What can be career path with this certification?

Also
What career path should I follow to become Oracle Database 11g Administrator Certified Associate(Izo-052) ?
Do I still need to take any of the exam 007/047/051 before giving 052?

Posted by Akriti on April 28, 2012 at 10:09 PM PDT #

Hi Akriti,
I'm not sure what exam you are referring to.

1Z0-147 = Program with PL/SQL
1Z0-007 = Introduction to Oracle9i SQL

I expect you are referring to the 007 exam. If you want to become 11g DBA OCA, you can take the 1Z0-052 exam now. Both of these exams together will result in 11g DBA OCA certification. This is a database administrator job role.

Hi Brandye,
Sorry ,I mentioned the wrong exam name.
I completed 1Z0-147-Program with PL/SQL in 2008.And So I am Oracle PL/SQL Certified Associate. For taking exam 1Z0-052 , do I need to take any other exam before it? 007/047/051?

Posted by guest on May 01, 2012 at 06:59 PM PDT #

Did you also pass exam 1Z0-007 or 1Z0-001 in 2008? If not, if 147 is the only exam that you have passed, then you do not have a certification yet. If you passed 007 or 001 also in 2008, then you only need to take the 051 exam to become 11g DBA OCA. However, if you have passed only 147, you will need to take 007, 047 or 051 to become Oracle PL/SQL OCA and then also 052 to become 11g DBA OCA.

Posted by guest on May 06, 2012 at 04:32 AM PDT #

There will not be more than one correct answer for a question. In the questions that require you to choose more than one option for the answer, all must be correct - there is no partial grading.

Posted by Gita on May 31, 2012 at 09:15 PM PDT #

There is no time-limit, Gita. The only caution would be to be sure that you pass both exams before they retire. You don't want to get into a situation where you've passed 051 and 052 retires before you take it. However, there is no immediate danger of that. Retirement is not currently under discussion for these two exams since they are the latest version.

I am going to do some Oracle SQL certification though I am having some problems.

Recently I have finished a training in SQL fundamentals 1. Now I want to be certified in both SQL fundamentals 1 and SQL fundamentals 2, but I cannot find the exam for SQL fundamentals 2. Also, I read that Introduction to SQL is equivalent to these exams but I am seeing that available is only Introduction to Oracle9i SQL, not the Oracle 11g version. And the last point is that I find in this link (http://pearsonvue.com/oracle/schedule/index_en.asp) this : Only select exams are available online, and certification is never awarded based solely on passing an online exam. To achieve certification, an online exam must always be paired with a proctored exam. What does this mean?

I am extremely confused in what I should do. Any help would be extremely appreciated.

Posted by Ismail on October 22, 2012 at 09:16 AM PDT #

Hi Ismail,
Have you visited our website at certification.oracle.com? You will find the info you need there. There is not a SQL Fundamentals II exam. There are also not SQL Fundamentals I and II certifications.

Have a look at this page: http://bit.ly/Kx7iac. This provides the certification paths for 11g DBA Associate and Professional. If you pass the SQL Fundamentals I exam as well as the Admin I exam, you will obtain the Oracle Database 11g Administrator Certified Associate certification.

The SQL Fundamentals I exam can be taken online. This exam on its own will not give you a certification. You must also take the Admin I exam to get the certification. This is what the Pearson VUE website means.

The 001 exam will fulfill the SQL requirement since you've already taken it. You can go ahead and take 052 to get the 11g DBA OCA certification. Be sure that you register for your 052 exam using the same account as the 001 exam.

Hi, I was planning on taking the 1z0-051 exam, I just completed my a DBA course in college that used the oracle 11g fundentals 1 book. I believe I have pretty good knowledge of all the thing outlined for the exam, and also just completed the exam for my course today, so I basically feel like I am prepared to take it and pass. I plan on taking it on Monday after reviewing all my notes again, do you guys recommend I take more time to prep or considering that our course was pretty much based on everything in this test, I should be fine and do the exam while everything is fresh in my mind?

Sorry for any typo's I'm on my phone. Thanks

Posted by jag on December 14, 2012 at 05:02 PM PST #

Jag,
That's such a tough question to answer. If your course was based on the exam topics on the website, I'd review all the exam topics and ensure that you feel comfortable with each topic. If you do, you probably should go ahead and schedule the test while it is all still fresh in your mind - provided you had some hands on practice in your course. Reading something and doing it are totally different things. You may also want to get some perspective from some experienced professionals on our Certification Forum http://bit.ly/Lt5vhm.

Hi Brandye,

I'm a little confused with all these questions/answers. In short, can I take exam IZ0-007 and then exam IZ0-052 to become OCA 11G ? Is IZ0-007 still valid for this purpose ?

Please let me know,

Thanks in advance,

i am planning to take OCP in 11g. for this whether i have to go for training courses in 1Z0-051,052 and 053 or i have to go for only one class among this? please anyone provide me information on this ASAP

Posted by guest on March 13, 2013 at 04:17 AM PDT #

You will see on our website http://bit.ly/Kx7iac that you do not have to take training for the OCA track (051+052). You do need to complete training for the OCP track (053). You will also need to submit a course form (instructions on the website) for your training to be validated, and all of your exams must be completed under the same account/Oracle Testing ID.

Hi

I currently have Oracle Forms 6i / Build Internet Applications OCP completed in 2004.

I've passed 1Z0-001 as part of this. I'm now thinking of taking the OCA 11G Administrator certification. Will I still have to take both exams - 1Z0-051 and 1Z0-052 to achieve this?

Thanks

Posted by guest on April 15, 2013 at 02:13 AM PDT #

Hi

if you have passed 1ZO-001 as part of OCP Forms 6i. Do you still need to take 1ZO-051 when trying to attain 11g OCA administrator?

Thanks

Posted by guest on April 15, 2013 at 02:18 AM PDT #

@Guest on Apr 12: You have passed the 007 exam. If you want to go on to obtain the 11g DBA OCA certification, you can pass the 052 exam and you will receive the certification. Just be sure that you take the 052 exam using the same Oracle Testing ID that you used for the 007 exam.

@Guest 1 on Apr 15: Your 001 exam will fulfill the SQL exam requirement for 11g DBA OCA. You will only need to take the 052 exam.

@Guest 2 on Apr 15: same answer as above.

Posted by Prabhu Kumar on April 26, 2013 at 12:33 AM PDT #

Hi Prabhu,
It depends on which OCA certification you want to obtain. Go to certification.oracle.com and determine the OCA certification path you wish to follow, 10g DBA OCA, 11g DBA OCA, PL/SQL Developer OCA, etc. This will help you determine which exam or exams are next.

Hi ,

I am planning to appear in the 1Z0-051 exam.
I have read book, OCA Oracle Database 11g: SQL Fundamentals I by oracle press.

Does the tables used in actual exam questions refer to the same tables used in examples of the above book.

Regards
Manoj

Posted by guest on April 29, 2013 at 03:08 AM PDT #

Hi Manoj,
I honestly do not know. This is not really a question that anyone can answer for you either, without violating the candidate agreement and giving away info that is on the exam. I would recommend using the tables in the book as a preparation tool and not count on them being the same as the tables on the exam.

Posted by guest on April 29, 2013 at 07:37 PM PDT #

Guys,

While I am preparing for a Adv PL/SQL developer professional certification, I did clear SQL fundamentals I (IZ0-051) today.

There are 2 things which you need to hard code in your mind:

1. Time factor is the most important thing that you should consider while preparing for this exam (I am not sure about other exams!!) Take a lot of mock tests from Kaplan and the summary pages of books which aim at this exam. You'll end up knowing topics and but no time to finish them. I don't why would they time so narrow.

2. Mere text book preparation is not sufficient unless you are super intelligent (I know I am not!!). Oracle SQL reference and google search is your best friend and go through each topic in it very carefully and writing your own notes. When you learn a new topic, practice it on a schema to write it in your mind.

Thanks!!

by reading the previous comments should i take 1z0-051 ????

Posted by Anvesh on May 28, 2013 at 07:25 AM PDT #

Hi Anvesh,
One thing to consider is that exam 051 is a little easier than 047, but does not result in a certification on its own. In order to obtain a certification with 051, you have to pass an additional exam. The 047 certification results in certification on its own. Then, if you pass an additional exam, you'll have an additional certification. You should read comments on the Certification Forum http://bit.ly/Lt5vhm for more info and a better perspective.

If yes, Will I get certificate? or I need to give any of these exams through proctor or any testing center and then only I'll get certificate.

@ Guest on June 3 - Only the 051 exam is non-proctored. You can take that one online and home. The other two you will need to take at a Pearson VUE testing center.

Hi..i am java developer i like write one oracle start up sql related certificate. can u guys suggest which is the gud one.

i have these in my mind.
1. 1Z0-007 Introduction to Oracle9i: SQL certification
2. 1Z0-051: Oracle Database 11g: SQL Fundamentals I

is the above both are same (just the version difference with features)?

Which is the latest SQL certification to write in 9i or advanced versions.

Posted by guest on September 10, 2013 at 03:07 AM PDT #

The 1Z0-007 exam has retired and is no longer available. There are two other options 1Z0-047 or 1Z0-061. I suggest you search for this information on our Oracle Certification Forum http://bit.ly/Lt5vhm. There is good info on this question out there.

Oracle9i Database certifications are no longer available. You'll need to pursue 10g, 11g, or 12c.

Thanks.

Posted by Shakti Sharma on September 18, 2013 at 08:38 AM PDT #

Hari,
If you want to have a SQL certification, it is best if you pass the 047 exam. This exam will lead to a SQL Expert certification. The 051 exam will not result in a certification on its own, you will need to pass an additional exam.

Shakti,
You can take your exams in any order. You do not need to do 051 first.

Hi,

I had already passed 1Z0-052 (Oracle Database 11g: Administration I) but unfortunately failed this exam (1Z0-051 Oracle Database 11g: SQL Fundamentals I). As a lot of people mentioned, 66 questions to go through in 120 minutes did not give me enough time to properly read questions and understand contexts ( not to mention that having a separate tab for exhibit and switch it back and forth reduces the concentration ).

Also I am probably slower than others in terms of reading speed as English is not my first language.

My question is if I take an exam in my native language (Japanese) = 1Z0-051J and pass it, am I still be entitled to be an OCA ? The reason for that is obviously to speed up reading to give me more time to think about

Or since I have already passed Oracle Database 11g: Administration I in English, do I need to stick to English version of 1Z0-051 exam to be certified ?

should I attend course for this certification , or is it enough to
study exam materials?

thanks a lot.

Posted by shaimaa on February 07, 2014 at 01:16 AM PST #

Shaimaa,
I believe that it is always best to attend a training course. The instruction and hands-on practice that you receive in class is invaluable. Ultimately, though it is a personal preference decision. Training is not required for this exam, so self-study is fine if you are able to discipline yourself to study on your own.

You mention studying exam materials. I hope that you are not referring to dumps. Using dumps is cheating and proves nothing about your skills and ability. Using dumps also perpetuates a serious cheating problem among exam candidates across the area of IT, and brings down the value of the certification.

If you self-study, I suggest you use books, Oracle documentation and practice and avoid dumps. Good luck on your path!

1) Is this exam is not retired yet?
2) I am writting this first time OCA exam in my career, so I no need to write any other exam before this to get OCA certified?
3) IF you have the exam dumps, so could u pls share with me.

Thanks in advance.

Posted by Abhilasha Sahu on February 22, 2014 at 01:25 AM PST #

@Hammad,
If you lose connectivity during your non-proctored exam:
- Go back to pearsonvue.com/oracle
- Select ‘Sign in – my account’
- Select ‘Non-proctored Sign In’ to cancel an online exam.
- Enter login details
- Select ‘Current Activity’ to reschedule or cancel scheduled exams.

I believe that the clock stops if you lose connectivity. You can contact Pearson VUE www.pearsonvue.com/oracle/contact to confirm.

@Abhilasha,
1) Exam is not retired
2) In order to obtain the 11g DBA OCA certification, you'll need to pass this exam as well as 052. Both exams are required for the certification.
3) Using dumps is cheating.

Finally after lot of hardwork, I have completed 1Z0-051. Since I know only basics of SQL and I dont have much experience on database side so I am really not sure which track( DBA, PL Sql developer side)I can go now.

Could you please let me know what are all the certifications I can take to obtain the latest certification by using this 1Z0-051.

I am totally blank which certification to go now, so kindly advise on this. Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks.

If you go to the exam page for exam 1Z0-051 http://bit.ly/1g8C0UB, you'll see the certifications that are associated with this exam. Click on one of those certifications and you'll be taken to a page that shows requirements for that certification path.

Determining which certification to go for now is largely a personal decision based on your interests, skills and possible job opportunities. You can get more information and discuss on the Oracle Certification Forum http://bit.ly/Lt5vhm.
