Developer Track Revealed – Alternative OCP Path for PL/SQL Developer OCAs

Recently we’ve received several questions about our developer certification offerings (including comments in this blog). I’m happy to let you know that we’ve been working on a new certification offering in the developer space and it’s just being released in beta now. The new track is an alternative OCP path for PL/SQL Developer OCAs and is called the Oracle Advanced PL/SQL Developer OCP.

With the addition of this new track, PL/SQL Developer OCAs can choose either the Forms Developer OCP or the new Advanced PL/SQL Developer OCP (or they can pursue both). I’ve had a number of people talk to me about additional options for developers so I’m particularly excited about this track.

Here are some important links associated with the new track:

We need qualified developers to take participate in the beta. This helps us get the exam out in production sooner. Exam price for betas is only $50 (US).

Please Note: If you are not a PL/SQL OCA but have passed some combination of our developer exams, you may still be eligible to earn this new OCP credential:

If you have passed one of our SQL exams (1Z0-001, 1Z0-007, 1Z0-047 or 1Z0-051) AND one of our PL/SQL exams (1Z0-101 or 1Z0-147) then you can get your OCP by passing the new 1Z0-146 Oracle Database 11g Advanced PL/SQL exam.

If you are not sure whether you qualify, send your questions to ocpexam_ww@oracle.com.

Comments:

Can you please suggest some documents from the available Oracle Documentation that will cover the topics of the exam. The suggested course for the exam doesn't seem to be available in India and UK region. (Also for individuals the courses are very costly) Regards, -Debojyoty

Oh Great!!! Today i received an email about this blog, oracle is so awesome, the information in this blog is so good to me, i have one certification (Iz0-007) and now i wanna be OCA developer, i'm brazilian, i'll load this blog everydays...

Posted by Darlei on July 29, 2008 at 10:20 PM PDT #

Hi Debojyoty - because of the many routes available to certification, the best resource to start with is actually the objectives themselves http://tinyurl.com/5pjdh3. The "Oracle Database 11g: Advanced PL/SQL" training course specifically covers this content, so you can investigate further at http://tinyurl.com/63uu9o, but I think the content is too new for anyone to have published any books on this yet.

Paul, You mentioned, "If you are not a PL/SQL OCA but have passed some combination of our developer exams, you may still be eligible to earn this new OCP credential". CertView shows that I previously passed both 1Z0-001 and 1Z0-101 back in Feb-2001. Questions: 1) Does this award me the OCA certification level? 2) More importantly, am I able to obtain my OCP certification level by now taking and passing the new 1Z0-146 Oracle Database 11g Advanced PL/SQL exam (given that I've only taken 1Z0-001 and 1Z0-101)? Thanks, Jason Genovese

Posted by Jason Genovese on October 29, 2009 at 04:52 AM PDT #

Hi Jason - although this does not award the OCA level, you are correct that you can obtain the OCP by now taking and passing 1Z0-146. (Sorry for the delayed response ...for some reason I had to un-publish & re-publish your comment several times to get it to show up)

Hi, this is the link for 1z0-146 exam topics. http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=41&p_exam_id=1Z0_146 In here theres a topic on ORACLE SUPPLIED PACKAGES... my question is how much is expected from us? i mean theres a whole book on this topic..like 700 pages....how much one needs to do? there are like 100s of such packages, right? are we expected to do all of them? Thanks in advance for ur help Manasi

Posted by Manasi on December 22, 2009 at 02:16 AM PST #

Hi Manasi - Candidates can expect questions on this topic to be of a very general nature.

Once you have determined the required exams, you will be able to view the exam topics and recommended training for that exam.

Gurujothi,
It depends on which certification you wish to pursue. If you'll have a look at http://bit.ly/LfQFfl, you'll see a list of certifications that are associated with this exam. When you click on the certification, you will be taken to a page that will provide you with the the requirements for the certification - including the exam codes. When you click on the exams, you will be able to see the recommended training and other exam details.

Dharmendra,
The PL/SQL Developer certification is not branded with a version. If you have passed the 047 exam, and you want to obtain the Oracle PL/SQL Developer OCA certification, you will need to pass exam 147 or 144. You can find the details on our website at http://bit.ly/NlTqtO. Good luck with your certification path.

From the Oracle Certification Blog post titled "Developer Track Revealed – Alternative OCP Path for PL/SQL Developer OCAs" on 7/24/2008, the following statement was made:

"If you have passed one of our SQL exams (1Z0-001, 1Z0-007, 1Z0-047 or 1Z0-051) AND one of our PL/SQL exams (1Z0-101 or 1Z0-147) then you can get your OCP by passing the new 1Z0-146 Oracle Database 11g Advanced PL/SQL exam."

Does this exam path still hold true? I have previously passed the 1Z0-001 and 1Z0-101. If I take the 1Z0-146 Oracle Database 11g Advanced PL/SQL exam, will I receive my OCP certification?

Thanks,
Jason

Posted by Jason on August 14, 2012 at 11:19 AM PDT #

Yes, this is a valid path. If you have passed 001 and 101, you can pass 146 and obtain the certification.

Likewise me, I see many exam aspirants fall prey to exam dumps which are available on web. Using dumps to clear certification exams is completely discouraged as it gives you a shortcut to procure a certificate. It brings down the credibility of the Oracle certifications too. I am an honored OCP in advanced PL/SQL now and it feels great to be the part of this community. I used Packt's Oracle Advanced PL/SQL Developer Professional Guide for reference. Currently, the book is the best one in the market. Content closely matches the one which is given by Oracle. The author has done a great job. The book helped me to clear the exam with 95% correct answers.

Great job!

Hi everyone,
I'm planning for the OCP certification. If I take the 1Z0-146 Oracle Database 11g Advanced PL/SQL exam, will I receive my OCP certification? Or do I have to appear for additional exam to get my OCP ?

Please guide me, the correct path for the OCP.

Posted by guest on May 14, 2013 at 10:38 AM PDT #

If you want to obtain the Oracle Advanced PL/SQL Developer Certified Professional certification, you will need to pass the 146 exam as well as have the PL/SQL Developer OCA certification (pass 007 or 051 or 047 AND 147 or 144). You can view more details http://bit.ly/19o8LWz.
