any idea when the upgrade exam will be available?

Posted by Catalin on April 03, 2014 at 06:32 AM PDT #

I don't know yet when the exam will be available. We thought candidates may like to know the relevant training now so that they can begin preparataion. We will provide more info as soon as we have it!

Regarding starting this certification - you'll need to start with the 12c DBA OCA certification, move on to OCP and then to OCM. There is virtual training available. You can get more information on our website https://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=653&get_params=p_id:248#tabs-1.

The advanced courses weren't required for upgrading to 11g DBA OCM from previous OCM DBA versions.

Are they now required ?

Thank you

Though the official upgrade path has not yet been released, I do not expect it to contain a training requirement. However, training can be very beneficial in preparing for the exam.

waiting eagerly !
hopping to hear back from you soon, Brandye ! do you have any rough date ? 2-3 months should not make difference.

Posted by Vraj on October 30, 2014 at 07:05 AM PDT #

Vraj,
Unfortunately, I don't even have a rough estimate. I can tell you that the OCM upgrade exam is typicall released first. There is already an audience for the upgrade exam in the 9i, 10g and 11g OCMs. The full OCM exam usually takes a little longer. We have not even released the 12c OCP exam yet, so it will probably be some time after that.

I wish I had more concise info for you!

Milan,
If I were you, I'd search job sites for the 11g certification and see what types of jobs show up. Being a new graduate, you may not have the same opportunities through certification that an experience database administrator would have, but it would certainly be a step in the right direction.

You could also start a discussion about this on the Oracle Certification Forum http://bit.ly/Lt5vhm.

Hi
I would like to take the OCM exam (already OCE RAC 11).
What do you think is better: run for for 12c OCP upgrade and wait fir the release of the 12c OCM exam OR go through (the preparation of the 11g OCM exam)
Regards
Thanks in advance

Posted by cheikh on June 29, 2015 at 03:32 AM PDT #

Cheikh,
I think it depends on what you want and how long you wish to wait. I'm not able to tell you when the 12c OCM exam will be available. If you're ready to go ahead and pursue OCM, then I'd suggest going for 11g and upgrading to 12c.

Another factor to consider is that OCM requires 2 courses (in addition to the course you took for OCP). If you've already taken 11g courses, you may want to go ahead and pursue 11g. If you've taken 12c courses, you may want to wait (tho 12c courses will also fulfill the training requirement for 11g).

One more consideration may be scheduling. When do you think you'd be ready for the exam and are there exams scheduled at that time, convenient to you.

Hopefully these considerations are helpful.

HI Brandye Barrington,

I have just upgraded by passing 1z0-060 from Oracle Database 10g Administrator Certified Professional to Oracle Database 12c Administrator Certified Professional. Although, the recommended course for this exam was Oracle Database 12c: New Features for Administrators but I did self study to pass this exam.

I am interested in 12c OCM and I have a few question to ask. Can you please help me?

1 - One of the courses in the required training of 12c OCM is Oracle Database 12c: New Features for Administrators. Will my 12c 1z0-060 be considered as fulfillment of one course or not?

2 - If I pass another 12c exam by self study (without Oracle university training) that is related to the required training. Let's say if I pass Oracle Database 12c: Data Guard Administration | 1Z0-066 that is related to Oracle Database 12c: Data Guard Administration training. Will this help me qualify for 12c OCM?

3 - If I take training for only one of the required courses. Considering that I have already passed 1z0-060, will I able to sit in OCM 12c exam?

4 - I read somewhere (but don't remember) that the required training can be done through Oracle online stream by self study. Is it true?

Your answers and valuable advice will be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Mukhtiyar Ali

Posted by Ali on December 04, 2015 at 12:49 PM PST #

Hi Mukhtiyar,

1 - One of the courses in the required training of 12c OCM is Oracle Database 12c: New Features for Administrators. Will my 12c 1z0-060 be considered as fulfillment of one course or not?

- Yes, since training was not required for the certification upgrade, you can use this New Features course to fulfill one of the course requirements for 12c OCM.

- If training is required in your certification path, you cannot use the training for the OCP or OCE path and for the OCM path as well. One course will only fulfill one training requirement. However, for 12c Data Guard, the requirement is to take the course OR hold the 12c DBA OCP certification. Since you hold the 12c DBA OCP cert, that pre-req is fulfilled, so if you take the Data Guard class, and that class is on the 12c OCM list, then you can use the class toward your 12c OCM certification.

3 - If I take training for only one of the required courses. Considering that I have already passed 1z0-060, will I able to sit in OCM 12c exam?

- You will need to complete 2 courses.

4 - I read somewhere (but don't remember) that the required training can be done through Oracle online stream by self study. Is it true?

- We will accept instructor-led training, live virtual classes, training on demand or the unlimited learning stream training toward certification. We will not accept self study CDs, online courses, or self study completed through non-partner training courses or book-study.

I hope this helps.

Brandye Barrington

Hi Brandye,

I have upgraded my OCP certification from 10g to 12c recently and would like to know the possibility to get thru the OCM.

Do we have any formal training for 12c OCM as similar to 11g (Oracle Database 11g: OCM Exam Preparation Workshop Ed 2)?

Do we have 12c OCM track already from 12c OCP to 12c OCM? if not yet any tentative timeline?

I have submitted three course requirement form towards 12C OCP, so in future can we use the remaining two for OCM since OCP required only one course.

Adi

Hi Adi,
There is not a 12c OCM workshop yet. The exam is being developed, but I don't have a release date yet. We will post more information on this blog when we have it. Sorry I couldn't provide more info.

Hi,

I've spent some time to find answer on my question. No luck.

Can I take part of exam 12c OCM (once available) without participation in two courses ? (I know, I can)
If yes, do I get my score after exam or I have to wait until deliever fulfilment of 2 courses ?

I'm aware that I don't get OCM certifications without all requirements, but do I get my score after passing exam.

Thanks.

Thanks.

Posted by guest on January 30, 2016 at 07:17 AM PST #

Good question - you will only get the exam score after you've completed the required training.

Hi Brandye,

I have passed the 10g OCP exam in 2009 and i could not complete the Oracle 10g courses due to some reasons, I wanted to prepare for 11G ocm preferably 12c ocm now , can i appear the 11g OCP upgrade exam and take 2 course for 11g OCP and then 2 course to appear 11g OCM .is this the right path ?
May i know when the 11g OCM is going to retire? is it good to go with 12 OCM or 11g OCM .i know 12c OCM is not yet released but just wanted to make sure i have enough room to complete the 11g OCM before it get retired.

Please suggest.

If you did not complete training when you were working on the the 10g OCP path, you never earned the 10g OCP certification. If you hold the 10g OCA certification, you can:
- upgrade to 11g OCP by passing exam 034 and completing one relevant 11g course or
- upgrade to 12c OCP by passing exam 067 and completing one relevant 12c course

After earning the OCP certification, you can move on to OCM by passing either OCM exam and completing two additional relevant courses for 11g or 12c.

There are no current retirment plans for the 11g OCM exam. Which version you choose to pursue is up to you. At this time, I can't tell you when the 12c OCM exam will be released. I'm hoping it is soon. But you should consider what version your're working with now and what your needs will be in the near future. Our recommendation is always to pursue the most current version. By the time you prepare for and pass the OCP exam and then prepare for the OCM exam, hopefully the 12c OCM exam will be available.

You can find relevant courses for the 11g upgrade on our website https://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=653&get_params=p_id:52#tabs-4&sc=WWOU15043965MPP001C002 >click the View Upgrade Paths button beside "Oracle Database 11g Administrator OCP - upgrade from Oracle9i or Oracle Database 10g DBA OCA"

You can find relevant courses for the 12c upgrade on our website https://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=653&get_params=p_id:249#tabs-3&sc=WWOU15043965MPP001C002 >click the View Upgrade Paths button beside "Oracle Database 12c Administrator OCP - upgrade from Oracle9i, Oracle Database 10g or 11g DBA OCA"

Hi Brandye!

Thank you for your response. These differences in information:
Oracle Database 12c: Managing Multitenant Architecture
Oracle Database 12c: New Features for Administrators
Oracle Database 12c: Use XML DB

from the list above, I plan to take a course of "Oracle Database 12c: Managing Multitenant Architecture" in the near future, but whether it will be suitable for 12C OCM I do not know * (

Hi,

I am confused about the requirement for database OCM 11g, and would like to know how I can clarify.

The OCM requirement claims that Oracle Linux Release 5.2 (64-bit) and Oracle Enterprise Management Grid Control 10g version 10.2.0.5 (64-bit) will be used during the exam. Now, the download for grid control 10 and 11 are already off the website, and cannot be downloaded.

Also, even I got my hands on a copy of GC 10.2.0.5 source, it had to go through a rather painfuly and complicated procedure to install:
How to Install Grid Control 10.2.0.5.0 on OEL/RHEL5/SLES10 Using the Existing Database (11g) Option (Doc ID 784963.1)

I am suspecting that during the OCM exam, OEM 11g GC will be used instead of 10.2.0.5 as mentioned on the website: https://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=5001&get_params=p_exam_id:11GOCM&p_org_id=&lang=

wondering who I can confirm that with?

Thanks a lot.

The 11g courses will not fulfill the training requirement for the 12c OCM exam. I don't see the list of courses you mention in the approved list for 12c OCM, but I'll check.

Eric,
Here is the exam environment.
Oracle Linux Release 5.2 (64-bit)
Oracle Database 11g version 11.2.0 (64-bit)
Oracle Enterprise Management Grid Control 10g version 10.2.0.5 (64-bit)

Hello Brandye,

I am an Oracle12c OCP. I now want to take the next step and become an Oracle12c OCM, but I don't see any direct path to Oracle12c OCM.

It seems as if I have to do Oracle11g OCM and then sit for Oracle12c OCM.

Is my understanding correct?

This might prove a very expensive way forward.

Please advice.

Regards,

Fais.

I have question about ocm 11g

when you select country/region "United States"

Exam Environment
Oracle Linux Release 5.2 (64-bit)
Oracle Database 11g version 11.2.0 (64-bit)
Oracle Enterprise Management Grid Control 10g version 10.2.0.5 (64-bit)

when you select country/region Rusian/Poland etc

Exam Environment
Oracle Linux Release 5.4 (32-bit)
Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.3.0 (32-bit)
Oracle Enterprise Manager 11g Grid Control Release 1 (11.1.0.1.0) (32-bit)

I'm confused which one is correct.

The 12c OCM exam will be released soon. This will be the path to 12c OCM certification.
