NEW CERTIFICATION: Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), Java SE 7 Programmer

Oracle Certification announces the release of the new "Oracle Certified Professional, Java SE 7 Programmer" certification. This certification is for individuals who possess a strong foundation in the Java Programming language, as well as proven skill in creating Java technology programs. This certification covers core Application Programming interfaces used to design object-oriented applications with Java, as well as insight into Java applications such as those that manipulate files, directories and file systems.

Existing Java Professional-level (OCP, SCJP) certification holders (any version) can now upgrade their credentials to Java SE 7 with a single exam. Exam appointments are available now to take the "Upgrade to Java SE 7 Programmer" exam at Pearson VUE testing centers worldwide. Visit pearsonvue.com/oracle and register for exam 1Z0-805.

For new/initial OCP certification candidates, beta testing for the "Java SE 7 Programmer II" exam (1Z1-804) is now underway and thus is available at the greatly discounted rate of $50 USD. Visit pearsonvue.com/oracle and register for exam 1Z1-804.

You can get all preparation details on the Oracle Certification website, including exam objectives, number of questions, time allotments, and pricing.

Nice work on the new OCP certification for Java 7!

Are you guys working on a Master (developer) certification for 7 as well (like what is available for Java 6)? If so, do you have any idea what time frame you hope to start the new program?

Also, do you have any plans to update the NetBeans certification? 6.1 is pretty long in the tooth.

Posted by guest on March 19, 2012 at 10:46 AM PDT #

Thanks for the props! At this time, a version 7 Master Developer is still being explored. I don't think the the NetBeans certification will be updated. However, I don't have a definitive statement on that yet. This is still being reviewed as well.

Sorry I can't give better answers at this time.

It is ridiculous that now to get certified for Java SE 7 Programmer, we have to take 2 exams. Sounds greedy!

for Java SE 7 Programmer certification where can i get material for preparation. I don't want to register for exam right now- just need to get the preparation.

Posted by guest on May 22, 2012 at 07:10 AM PDT #

You can find exam topics and recommended training on our website at http://bit.ly/z3tuxw. You can also check community.oraclepressbooks.com for Java SE 7 books. I would not recommend searching for "preparation materials" online. Much of what is returned will be dumps - cheating materials. Using dumps can cause you to lose your certification and/or be banned from future testing.

can i directly give OCP Java SE 7 exam without given OCA Java SE 7 exam ?? And if i give directly OCP Java SE 7 exam then i able to get certificate ???? And i also completed my preparation of OCP Java SE 6 exam, can i go with OCP Java SE 7 without any extra preparation or extra material ???

Posted by guest on August 27, 2012 at 01:24 AM PDT #

You can take any Oracle Certification exam at any time. However, you will only receive the certification (certificate) once you have completed all the requirements. In order to obtain the Java SE 7 Programmer OCP certification, you will need to also obtain the Java SE 7 Programmer OCA certification. You can take exam 804 prior to taking exam 803, but you will not be certified until you have passed both exams.

Regarding Java SE 6 preparation materials for Java SE 7 exams - you will need to review the exam topics for Java SE 7 to see if there are any knowledge gaps and you will also need to review the differences between the Java SE 6 and Java SE 7 releases. I expect you will need additional preparation.

I agree. There is no need for two exams!!

Are there higher exams after the OCP-Java SE7. With SUN, there was SCJP, move higher to SCJD or SCWCD and so on. Then to the highest level of Enterprise Architect. Is there anything like this with Oracle Java?

Posted by Bora on September 30, 2012 at 02:27 PM PDT #

Hi Bora,
At this time, there are no further exams.

Hi.

I just bought the Oracle Press Java 7 Programmer I study guide for the 1Z0-803 exam to start preparing a bit. I see on Amazon that there's a single study guide for both the 1Z0-803 and 1Z0-804 due to be released in March 2013. Will there be one released for just the 1Z0-804 exam as well?

Posted by guest on December 14, 2012 at 12:13 AM PST #

This would be a good question for Oracle Press http://www.mhprofessional.com/?page=/mhp/content/contact_us/index.html. While we collaborate closely with McGraw Hill on these guides, the Certification Program does not actually produce these books, so we are not able to speak to upcoming releases.

hie i am new to java and i want to do OCP for java SE 7 can u please tell me how many tests are there and what are they because i am bit confused about betatest and 1z1804 and 1z1805

Posted by guest on March 24, 2013 at 01:06 AM PDT #

In order to obtain the Java SE 7 OCP certification, you will first need to pass the 1Z0-803 exam to obtain Java SE 7 OCA, then you will pass the 1Z0-805 exam to obtain Java SE 7 OCP.

You can find more information on our website here http://bit.ly/MOTbN4.

hi, i'm a bit confused too, what is the correct path:

1Z0-803 + 1Z0-804
1Z0-803 + 1Z0-805
1Z0-803 + 1Z0-804 + 1Z0-805

?

thanks in advance

Posted by guest on April 05, 2013 at 06:45 AM PDT #

I'm so sorry. You are confused, because I confused you in my previous post.

In order to obtain the Java SE 7 OCP certification, you will first need to pass the 1Z0-803 exam to obtain Java SE 7 OCA, then you will pass the 1Z0-804 exam to obtain Java SE 7 OCP. So, 803+804 (forget 805).

The 805 exam is an upgrade exam, you would only take that exam if you held a previous Java Programmer certification.

Again, I apologize for the confusion!

I would suggest that you start with Java SE 7 Programmer. Your first step will be to pass the 803 exam. You can view the certification requirements on our website http://bit.ly/16jtygM.

Posted by guest on May 05, 2013 at 07:37 AM PDT #

You can go to Oracle Press Books http://bit.ly/URFuwt to purchase PDF versions of exam guides that they've published. I don't believe that this book is published yet. However, you can go there and check. Any free pdfs you would encounter online would likely be brain dumps, which are illegal and considered cheating, so please steer clear of any of these.

Hi Rajasekhar,
If you want the Java SE 7 Programmer certification, you will need to first pass the OCA exam - 1Z0-803. Then you will pass the OCP exam 1Z0-804. You can find the certification requirements and get to the exam topics on our website here http://bit.ly/16jtygM.

Hi Brandye,

Any new information regarding a coming Oracle Certified Master, Java SE 7 Developer, or Oracle Certified Expert Java EE 7 certifications?

I plan to get the OCP certification; however, I've not decided between SE6 or SE7.
My rational is:
If there is no plan to release other certification for SE7, it might be better to go with SE6, especially it takes only one exam to get certified.

What is your view on this that?

Regards,
Tarek

Posted by Tarek on December 20, 2013 at 07:02 PM PST #

Hi Tarek,
Unfortunately, I don't have any information on upcoming SE 7 exams. If you choose the SE 6 certification, you can upgrade to SE 7 with one exam and then you'll have two versions of certification, which may serve you well.

Good luck in your decision. I'm sorry I don't any more information to offer.

Hi,

When you register for the exam, is there a set time and date every few months that you can take the test or is it a case of where the test is on regularly (i.e monthly) in test centers?

Thanks,
Tim

Hi,

I am wondering when the exam for java cert 7 take place. Are there any in June this year or are they held in test centers on a monthly basis?

Thanks

Posted by GC on February 06, 2014 at 09:38 AM PST #

If you are taking the exam at a Pearson VUE test center, you can schedule the exam for any date/time they have available, you do not have to wait for a specific event to be scheduled. Go to www.pearsonvue.com/oracle, sign in and select the option to register for an exam. Select the exam and test center you desire. You will be able to select a date and time.

If you are taking the exam through an Oracle Testing Center, you'd need to check the schedule through your local center - http://education.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=609&get_params=dc:D81589,p_preview:N

Hi,
I was planning to take OCJP examination next week when I came across this exam. I want to know any pre requisite for the 1Z0-803 Exam. And how different is this from OCJP Exam? Syllabus wise as well.
Thank you

Posted by Anchal Tomar on March 03, 2014 at 02:32 AM PST #

Depending on which OCJP certification your are pursuing (SE 5, 6 or 7), this exam may be a prerequisite. For the SE 7 version of Java Programmer, OCA certification is required prior to OCP. Passing this exam will give you the associate level of the Java SE 7 Programmer certification, then you'll go on to pass 1Z0-804 to achieve the Professional level. If you are pursuing Java SE 5 or SE 6 Programmer, the associate level certification is not required.
