Comments:

Hi, I'm following all the news concerning the Java SE 7 certification path since Oracle released the SE 7. I would like to know what happened to the OCM (the Master Developer certification). Did Oracle completely eliminate the OCM trunk of SE or there will be an either revisited and/or improved version? I'm an OCP Java SE 6, and I'm wondering about what would be better in my case: to achieve the OCM Java SE 6 or waiting Oracle to release a new version of OCM which reflect the Java SE 7 new stuff?. And, if the second case happens, what about the requirements? Will it be possible to attend the OCM 7 exam having an OCP 6 certification?
Thanks for the attention

Armando,
We do not have any info yet on whether/when an SE 7 version of the Java Developer OCM certification will be released. It will be evaluated after we have released the OCA and OCP exams. At this time, the SE 6 version is the latest version of OCM certification. Sorry I cannot provide more info at this time, but this is the only info I have right now. Please stay tuned to this blog, as this is where we will release any new information.

This is getting way too expensive for me!

£202 OCA
£202 OCP

@Trig, I agree. They are way too expensive compared last time with Sun.

Is there a target release date on the SE 7 upgrade exam?

Posted by guest on February 01, 2012 at 12:39 PM PST #

At this time, there is no target date for the 805 exam. Usually, a production exam is released about 10 weeks from the date the beta exam ended. This beta ended on Jan 7, so we're nearly 1/2 way there!

If I take the OCP - Java SE 6 exam, can I upgrade directly to the OCP - Java SE 7 , or do I still need to take the OCA - Java SE 7 exam?

Posted by Sid on February 09, 2012 at 03:44 PM PST #

I can't wait to find out what my score is on the OCA beta exam for Java 7 SE.

Posted by guest on February 09, 2012 at 05:49 PM PST #

Hi Sid, If you hold the SE 6 OCP certification, you can upgrade directly to SE 7 with one exam. You do not have to do the OCA for SE 7.

Hi,

I have SCJP 5.0 certification. Can i take 'Oracle Certified Professional, Java SE 7 Programmer-Upgrage-1Z0-805' exam?

Do i need to first upgrade SCJP 5.o to OCP?

Thanks,
Uday Kumar

Hi Uday,
You can go directly to OCPJP SE 7 with the 805 exam. Just be sure that you take the 805 exam under the same ID as your current certification. When you create your Pearson VUE web account, you'll need to use the same information that was used in your Prometric account (including the same Prometric ID).

Hi

I am trying to find some certification guidance reading material for the new Java and EE exams (the oracle java 6/7 and EE 6 exams). With Sun there was the SCJP books that covered the topics needed for the exam, but for the oracle exams I cant find any such books. I have studied the oracle web pages on Java exams and training, looking for detailed information about the contents and requirements to pass the exam. But, the only thing I can find is a summary for exam of topics to know, i.e. a screen full of information, which is not very detailed.

Does any such detailed information exist for the public? or is the only option to take the oracle courses?

Oracle Certification does not provide more detailed information. We provide the exam topics to give you an idea of what you'll need to prepare for on the exam, but we do not want to "teach to the exam." There is more to certification than passing an exam. Many candidates have said that the real value in becoming certified is the process that they go through to prepare for the exam - searching training and Oracle databases and other places for information. You can check Oracle Press Books http://community.oraclepressbooks.com/, they may have useful books that will help you to prepare.

Good luck with your exam.

Hi Simon,
If you are interested in the Java SE 7 OCA certification, click on the link "Oracle Certified Associate (OCA) - Java SE 7 Programmer" above under "Learn More." This will take you to the page that shows you the requirements for this certification. From there, you will be able to get to the exam details.

Hello,
I am interested in taking the Oracle Certified Associate, Java SE 7 Programmer certificate exam. Can you suggest some authentic reference material to prepare for the exam?

Brandye,

What happens when a certification exam contains a question, from a topic which is not included in its prescribed list of exam topics?

For example, the topic "Inner classes" is not on the exam topics for "Oracle Certified Associate (OCA) - Java SE 7 Programmer". When happens, if I attempt a question on this topic in the exam? Will my answer be marked correct, if I leave a feedback about this question not being on the syllabus?

This issue has been raised a lot of times by people, who have written the certification exams on Java, in past. For instance, the following text is from a post on JavaRanch.com by a person claiming to have answered a question on Inner classes:

yes.i took 1zo-803..inner class questions were there..few based on encapsulation..then few on arraylists and linked lists..rest were all basics.."

Hi Nishit,
Oracle Press is about to release a Java SE 7 book that may be helpful http://community.oraclepressbooks.com/.

Hi Mala,
There should not be any questions on the exam that are not addressed in the exam topics. I'll have someone have a look at the 'inner class' questions.

More importantly, testing candidates should NEVER reveal questions that are on an exam. This violates the candidate agreement agreed to at the beginning of testing and can result in loss of certification and being banned from testing. I'll have someone look into these comments as well.

Hi Deepak,
If you have an interest in programming, you may want to consider starting with the PL/SQL Developer OCA certification http://bit.ly/19o8LWz. You can also visit our website at certification.oracle.com to view available certifications and see what your options are.
