Pearson VUE Exam Transition: Java OCM Master Assignments and Essays

Both the "Oracle Certified Master - Java SE 6 Developer" and "Oracle Certified Master - Java EE 5 Enterprise Architect" certifications require successful completion of both a performance-based certification assignment and a written essay. As we transition Java certification testing from Prometric to Pearson VUE, assignment and essay purchases and submissions are temporarily on hold. Candidates will again be able to purchase and submit assignments and essays on June 1, 2011.

Starting June 1, 2011, follow the steps below to purchase and submit assignments and essays:

To purchase your assignment or essay:

  1. Go to pearsonvue.com/oracle
  2. Select 'Schedule a Test'
    1. Under Non-Proctored, select 'Master Assignment' to purchase the assignment. (NOTE: this option is not available before June 1)
    2. Under Proctored, select the appropriate exam number for your essay. (NOTE: this option is not available before June 1)
  3. Follow the instructions in the system to complete your assignment/essay purchase.
  4. Upon completing registration, you will be given instructions on how to download your assignment. You will go to a test center to take your essay.
  5. Please note that beginning June 1, 2011, you must return your completed assignment and take the essay exam within 6 months of assignment purchase.

To submit your assignment purchased at Prometric:

  1. Contact us at suncert_ww@oracle.com to request a voucher that will allow you to submit the assignment.
  2. Create a Pearson VUE web account if you do not already have one.
  3. Access the assignment online at pearsonvue.com/oracle using test number 1Z0-848 for the Architect assignment and 1Z0-844 for the Developer assignment.
  4. Use your voucher code to access one of these tests, which places you into a special form of the assignment where you can upload your completed work.
  5. Note that you will not be eligible to register for the essay until you have submitted your assignment.
Check our website for specific instructions for your scenario if it is not covered above.

I'm following this steps, but 1Z0-848 isn't available for me in pearson vue. Anyone know what is happening?

Posted by Alexandre on June 06, 2011 at 01:21 AM PDT #

Alexandre, are you looking in the right place for this exam number? When you go to www.pearsonvue.com/oracle, you should 1)Select 'Schedule a Test'; 2)Sign in; 3)Select 'Non-Proctored'. You should see the exam in that list. I was able to see this exam in the list. If you continue to have trouble, please contact Pearson VUE for assistance www.pearsonvue.com/oracle/contact. However, candidates who purchased their assignments before June 1, 2011 will have 12 months to complete and submit the assignment. Regards, Brandye Barrington

@Brandye Barrington - In order to avoid mandatory training requirement (listed in http://education-dev.oracle.com/pls/web_prod-plq-dad/db_pages.getpage?page_id=449), don't we need to submit assignment and finish part-3 as well prior to August 1, 2011 (even though assignment was purchased after June 1, 2011). Pls clarify.

Sanjeev, you are correct. If you want to avoid the training requirement, you will need to submit your assignemnt well before the training requirement deadline (which is being extened to Sept 30, 2011). However, someone who purchases the assignment today will have 6 months from today to submit the assignment and complete the essay. If they submit and receive a passing grade before Sept 30, they do not have to complete training. If they submit after Sept 30, they will be required to complete training. However, if they do not submit on or before Dec 14, they will be required to purchase a new assignment. Regards,

I registered for the "Oracle Certified Master - Java SE 6 Developer" step 1 over a month before the notification that Pearson was taking over. And the information i had was i had a year to complete the assignment. With all this now, what is going to happen to me? What is going to happen to my registration with prometric? Is it still valid or i need to do something? Because nobody is talking about my condition.

I purchased the assignment (1Z0-848 - Java Enterprise Edition 5 Enterprise Architect Certified Master Assignment (T1) ) from Prometric without voucher (by credit card)
on May 5 2011 but I haven’t returned my completed project to Oracle yet. How do I upload my Assignment in this case?

Yomexzo,
You will still have one year to complete your assignment. You will not be able to register for your essay until your assignment is submitted. You can find more information on how to submit your assignment on our website http://bit.ly/juczx9.

Please note that even tho you have a year to complete the assignment, if you do not complete the assignment and essay and pass by September 30, you will need to complete the training requirement http://bit.ly/gdADK9.

Hello, My question is if I buy the test Java Enterprise Edition 5 Master Certified Enterprise Architect Assignment (T1) they were able to take my essay, I have finished Part I and II and so it is pending.

Posted by guest on July 06, 2011 at 10:22 PM PDT #

Are you saying that you've passed the exam (Part I) and you've purchased the Assignment (Part II) and you need to take the Essay? There is a process outlined for this scenario on http://bit.ly/juczx9. "I purchased the Assignment from Prometric, but I haven’t returned my completed project to Oracle yet. How do I upload my Assignment?" After submitting your assignment, you would simply purchase and take the Essay from personvue.com/oracle as you would for any exam. If you need assistance with a specific scenario, please contact suncert_ww@oracle.com.

Hello, there is my situation:

1. I took the first part of the Certified Enterprise Architect at Prometric.

2. I downloaded the second part of the certification from Prometric too.

3. Now i have to submit my completed work through Pearson Vue web site, so i receive exact information on how to do so by email, from suncert_ww@oracle.com. In there they gave me the test number i should select to submit my completed assignment. But when i used the test option 1Z0-848 , and the voucher code i received from oracle support, the test opened a link to download a new assignment!

Then i realized it was another test code 1Z0-865, then i purchased a new voucher at Person Vue site and submit my work by this option, but now i am not sure if my work it is going to be assessed against the correct exam statement.

I am very concerned, but what i did was to follow the steps which oracle support gave me.

I would appreciate some aid you could give me to solve my case.

Harold,
Actually, the customer service team did give you the correct steps. You should not have purchased the assignment 865. You should contact suncert_ww@oracle.com and explain to them exactly what you did and ask them what you need to do now to ensure that the certification rules in the database are fulfilled for your certification.

Hello,
Someone at Oracle please advise!
I am trying to upload my OCMJD assignment and when I select the .jar file nothing happens. IT WON'T LET ME UPLOAD!!! WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON? I only have 48 hours to upload. NOT COOL.
Apparently my docs are taking up a lot of file space. The jar file is about 20M. Is this a problem causing it to not upload?

Help. Please advise.

Hi All,
Any one know how to upload SCEA -5 part to assignment I have facing same problem like Mr. Harold Roa with same situation, Pearson and Oracle team unable to help me

Posted by Sanjay Mishra on September 27, 2011 at 10:51 PM PDT #

Sanjay,
If you used the voucher and the exam number that the OCP Support team gave you and you got to a screen on the Pearson VUE website that asked you to download a new assignment, that's fine. You will not need to download another assignment. Simply sign back in to your account at pearsonvue.com/oracle and in your Current Activity tab, you should see the exam number that was provided to you by the OCP Support team. Click on this exam and you will see the option to upload.

Hello All:

I have the same issue that both Harold and Sanjay faced for uploading SCEA-5 assignment to Pearson Vue. The assignment was originally purchased from Prometric. I contacted Oracle and they provided me with a transfer voucher as well as a 6 step instruction for uploading the assignment to Pearson Vue. I was able to enter the voucher code and complete the first 5 steps. The 6th step was "6. Using the voucher code to access one of these tests will place you into a special form of the assignment where you can upload your completed work". Pearson Vue web site only provided the option for downloading the assignment. I logged out and logged back in and checked the "Current Activities" tab. It shows "1Z0-848: TRANSITION (VOUCHER ONLY) Java Enterprise Edition 5 Enterprise Architect Certified Master" with a "Continue Exam" button under the Action column. Clicking on this button pops-up a new window and then to "Candidate Agreement" page for downloading the assignment with two buttons "I Agree" and "I Do Not Agree". I have not clicked on the "I Agree" button and gone to the next step. I have called Pearson and was transferred to multiple customer support and then to Tech Supports (VSF?). I have not received a solution to this yet. Any thoughts / ideas on how to address this?

Regards,
Ram

Hi Ram,
I believe that once you agree to the Candidate Agreement, you will be taken to a screen where you can upload your assignment. We always require candidates to accept this agreement upon taking a test. You can review this agreement on our website here http://bit.ly/y1n7yw.

Thanks,
Ram
