Using Braindumps is Cheating

0477A.gifHi Everyone,

Unfortunately there continues to be some confusion about the use of "brain-dumps," "question dumps," "dumps," etc. as a preparation or study tool. We even have people asking for dumps in our forums, Twitter and Facebook pages. As a reminder, the use of "dumps" (of any kind) is a form of cheating and should not be used as you prepare to take the exam.

Keep in mind that the real value of becoming certified is in the process that you follow to prepare for the test. Taking shortcuts (such as using dumps) may or may not help you on the test, but ultimately the use of these tools will not make you a better technical professional. Additionally - the use of dumps devalues the credential for others who have followed a legitimate study path and have worked, studied and practiced.

A few recommended study tools: Oracle training, practice exams, Oracle Press books, Oracle Technology Network (many white-papers), practicing with actual product downloaded from Oracle (where available), Oracle Knowledge Center.

There are not any valid practices exams for this exam. Anything that you find online is likely a brain dump. I suggest staying away from those.

Its good to read this but the question is why does this happen?
I mean why does this dumps exist?
Can't there be any other ways by which this dumps are banned or is it not possible for ORACLE to generate about thousands of questions from which the exams are taken so that students do not go for dumps? I mean something which can discourge students to go for dumps.
I propose two things:
1) ORACLE should reduce the fees for the exams.
2) ORACLE should prepare thousands of questions from which students are asked randomly. So it would dis-courage students to go for dumps.

Maunish,
Unfortunately, posts like this are necessary. Every certification program fights this same battle with dishonest people who steal exam questions and dishonest people who buy exam questions.

Also unfortunately, your suggestions are mutually exclusive. It is impossible to create thousands of exam questions without them taking years to get through beta and significantly raise the cost of exams. It is a very very rigorous process to write and test high-quality test questions.

Thank you for your suggestions.

I agree with the idea that dumps are a form of cheating.

However I would like to suggest that Oracle makes some practice exams available. The point I faced in a couple (actually all) Oracle exams is the fact that you have no clue how the exam will look like. How are questions asked? What level of questions could you expect? I could imagine that the moment a Oracle-version of a test exam would be made available the preparation of interested candidates will benefit.

You will still need to learn and have experience in the topic (in my view experience is more important than learning), but the gap between a formal training, hands-on experience and the theory of an exam are to broad and in the beginning unknown to the the person taking the exam.

There are practice exams available for some of our exams through a 3rd party vendor, Kaplan, www.selftestsoftware.com. We also have some new exam preparation seminars available for some of our exams http://bit.ly/107ULAb. Unfortunately some exams just don't have the volumes to support Kaplan building practice tests for them. It would be nice if we could have practice tests for all exams but, at this time, that's just not feasible.

However, thank you for taking the time to make the suggestion.

Oracle DBA is an Oracle Database Administrator. There are 3 levels of DBA: Associate (OCA), Professional (OCP), and Master (OCM).

You should reach out to the users of the Oracle Certification Forum http://bit.ly/Lt5vhm for discussion on the right certification for you to pursue.

hi,
myself Jeena, I cleared 1z0-051 and 1z0-052 exam recently. Now I am looking for 1z0-053. I am planning to buy the 'Practice Test' for 30 days access. I need to know I can pass the exam with this practice test materials or should I need to prepare with something else.
please advise in this.

Thanks and Regards,
Jeena

Hi Jeena,
The practice test is a good supplement to your study materials, but the role of the practice test is to highlight areas where you need more preparation. It can also help you become comfortable with the testing environment.

In order to obtain the 11g DBA OCP certification, you will also need to complete a training course. My suggestion would be that you purchase the recommended course for the 053 exam http://bit.ly/WsJn1o and use that material to prepare. You can also check our Certification Forum http://bit.ly/Lt5vhm for books that other candidates have used to prepare.

Hi,

English is not my native language, so I went to wikipedia to be sure I would understand what you mean by braindumps.

Quote from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brain_dump :
"In certification exams
The phrase "brain dump" refers to confidential information relating to examinations which is obtained by examinees who memorize, then "dump" (record) the information after the examination. Brain dumps are also referenced to collections of exam items that have been stolen from high-stakes certification exams.[3] Brain dumps are most commonly found amongst IT certification exams mainly because the exams are expensive and difficult to pass, and the questions rarely change. These type of brain dumps are actual exam questions and answers that users will memorize prior to taking (or sitting for) an exam…
Brain dumps of this sort often constitute cheating because the information acquired was generally taken from material that was meant to remain secure, or information copyrighted or registered as trade secrets."

Could you please clarify which are legal study materials and what are not? I have seen study materials on internet sites, like Oracle Magazine, with questions and answers. I also see sites selling study materials. There is one called "braindump.com"! How can we tell if one is legal or not?

Thank you,

Francisco

Hi Francisco,
This is a good question. Oracle's authorized practice test seller is Kaplan Selftest (www.selftestsoftware.com). However, there are other legitimate practice test sellers out there. A good place to check is on CertGuard's braindump identification site at http://www.certguard.com/.

One thing to remember is that the practice test is not necessarily for preparation. It is a terrific resource to help you become familiar with the types of questions that will be on the test, and to make you comfortable in the exam environment, but it should be used for for identifying gaps in your knowledge that for giving you areas of study.

On a personal level think Brain dumps are a good thing. What should be is you have to sit the training course! If you can't pass the exam when doing a £2000 training course and then there is something seriously wrong with the training.
I'm fed up with doing constant IT training courses and finding when sitting the exam, 80% of the question asked wasn't even touch on in the course.
For the avaerage IT person that spends most of the working week supporting and doing project work which extends pass working hours and family life to juggle where the hell do you think someone is going to be able to sit down with the books for the next level up and go through and learn for that extra 80% of question???
The system has totally gone out of the window.

It is concerning to hear that a candidate thinks cheating on an exam is a good alternative to in depth preparation.

I can understand that the cost of Oracle's courses is not insignificant, and it would be frustrating to get to an exam and feel like the course did not prepare you for it. However, in most cases, the recommended course does cover most of the topics on the exam. If you are completing a course in the approved courses list. This is the list of courses that will fulfill the training requirement. While these area all relevant to the certification, they may not cover the exam topics like the recommended course will. The recommended course is the course that is listed on the exam page as the course to help you prepare for your exam.

That said, our certification exams are not designed simply for rote memorization. If you complete a course and expect to walk out of the classroom and ace the exam, you will likely be disappointed. We have the expectation that candidates will come to the exam with the ability to apply the knowledge, skills and principles taught in the classroom.

We are sorry that you were disappointed with your training class. You could contact Oracle University through the 100% Student Satisfaction program.

I would like to add something.

Average salary of a South African Person is $257.36 per month.
Only 10% of the country earns more then $1194.91 per month.

With the cost of studies and living. Loans need to be taken with interest rate as high as 31%.

It is almost unthinkable to loan money for studies, and failing. We are forced to utilize every possibility to pass. We just can't afford not to. Failing literally takes away food money. It sounds dramatic but true.

Kind Regards

While I can sympathize with this scenario, can you look at it from another perspective?

While you may study hard and use the dumps only as reinforcement, what about all the candidates who ONLY use dumps to prepare for the exams and come out with a certification, but have no idea how to actually perform successfully in the relevant job role.

They are representing the same credential that you hold. These people devalue everyone's certification. Do you want to invest that much into your credential, only to have it immediately devalued by cheaters?

Thank you for posing your point of view. It makes an interesting conversation.
