FAQs: Sun Certifications (Part 2)

Hi everyone - as you know, we have been busy recently re-branding the Sun certifications into the Oracle Certification Program. We're getting some good questions and thought we could help by answering them here. (We will also soon be adding them onto the FAQ section of the Oracle Certification Web site)

Will my certificate be from Sun or Oracle?

It depends on when you complete the last certification requirement for your track:

  • If you completed all of your Java, Oracle Solaris, Oracle Solaris Cluster, MySQL, NetBeans and OpenOffice.org exams before September 1, 2010, you will receive a Sun-branded certification kit.
  • If you completed your last exam for these tracks on or after September 1, 2010, you will receive an Oracle certification kit.

Will I receive a hard copy or soft copy certificate?

After November 30, 2010, reshipment requests for copies of legacy Sun-branded certificates will be fulfilled electronically. This only applies to reshipment requests for Sun-branded certificates. Those earning Oracle-branded Java, Oracle Solaris or MySQL certificates will continue to receive hard-copy certificates.

What if my new certification is not being displayed in CertManager?

If your certification is not displaying in CertManager, please send an email to suncert_ww@oracle.com to determine why your certification has not yet been granted. Please include your full name, certification credential, and testing ID.

When will I receive my certificate?

You should receive your certificate approximately 6-8 weeks after passing the final certification exam in your path.

If it has been 4 weeks since CertManager shows that your kit shipped, please (1) verify your physical shipping address and (2) contact suncert_ww@oracle.com immediately to request a reshipment if you would like to receive a hard copy of your kit.

I have not received my certification success kit. What do I do?

If your package has not yet arrived, it could be for one of the following reasons:

  • Less than 6-8 weeks has elapsed since taking your certification exam.
  • You have not completed all of the requirements for the certification exam track. Go to CertManager and select "Cert Progress" to view remaining requirements.
  • Your address is incorrect in our database and your certificate might have been returned. Go to CertManager and select "Personal Info" to update your address and request another certificate.
  • On November 30, 2010, candidates who earned Sun-branded certifications begin receiving their certifications through email (hard copies of certificates will no longer be sent).
  • It might not have been mailed. Go to CertManager, select Show Fulfillment History, then Test History to check on the mailing status.
  • If you still have not received your certificate after the waiting period and your address is correct in the CertManager database, please send an email message to suncert_ww@oracle.com. Please include your Prometric ID number in your message.

If you have not received your certification success kit within 6-8 weeks of completing your all certification requirements, please login to CertManager to check your certification status and the status of your success kit (under "History"). If your kit was mailed more than 4 weeks ago, please verify your mailing address and contact suncert_ww@oracle.com to request a reshipment. Please provide your name, Prometric ID, the certification in question, and confirm that you have verified or updated your address.

Ed. note: September 29, 2010 - updated text in "Will I receive a hard copy or soft copy certificate?" for clarity

After SUN Oracle Certification Exam System Integration (1ST Sep 2010 onwards), the online certification status check portal is not working correctly. Earlier all the exam related information were updated very promptly and correctly on Cert DB. But now most of information in History section and Certification Status sections are not getting updated at all. I have given Web Component Developer exam on 4th Sep 2010, still awaiting certificates kit, also except one history entry, most of information related to that exam are not yet updated. This was not the case earlier, when I gave SCJP exam 4 months back. I think not providing information at the right time defeats the whole purpose of the Certification DB portal. Also I emailed my concerns on email ID provided in FAQs i.e. 'suncert_ww@oracle.com', but again no reply from that account ID too even after several days.

Posted by Ritesh Rawal on October 03, 2010 at 02:55 PM PDT #

I have cleared SCWCD exam like 2 weeks ago. Sun Cert Manager shows the fulfilment status as "Processed" but no certification "Mailed". It has been like more than 10 days the status is stuck in Processed. Whats going on? This never happened with Sun guys... I have got the certi kit within reasonable time before.. I have sent email to suncert_ww@oracle.com too but no response.. Whats going on?? Is this the quality we gonna get .. If so i might not be going ahead with all the other certis i have prepared for.. I have seen lots of other cases like this after the oracle take over.. They all r waiting forthe certi kit... Please look into this issue ASAP.

Hi Paul, I am not sure if this is true or not, but i read it somewhere on oracle.com that there wont be any paper certificates for Java Certifications going forward.... I am not sure why would that change happen.. All the institutes (prestigious) do have a paper certificate for any of the exams u pass.. Call me old school or whatever, a certificate in a pdf just takes away most of the charm of achievement. I think oracle should re think this change from paper based certificate to paper free (I know all about green environment & all that... ) Cheers, Nehal

Posted by Nehal Dave on October 13, 2010 at 02:15 AM PDT #

Hi Nehal, That was simply a misunderstanding. All Oracle certificates will continue to be sent as paper certificates. The Java certificates that were mentioned in that article referred to reshipments of Sun-branded Java certificates. On September 1, 2010, we changed the branding of Java certifications from a Sun Certification branding to an Oracle Certification branding. Anyone who received their certificate prior to September 1, 2010 would have received a Sun Certification certificate. If one of those candidates needs to request a copy of their certificate for some reason, they will be provided with a soft copy. Anyone who obtains a new certification will receive a paper certificate. Regards, Brandye

Hi "Anon", Kits are being shipped. As a matter of fact, the shipping process has not changed at all yet from Sun to Oracle. We will be happy to check on your kit, but you have provided no information we can use for searching. If you will send your request to suncert_ww@oracle.com, they will respond to you within 72 hours (or 3 business days). I am sorry that you have not yet received your kit, but we would like to help sort this out. Please contact us today. Regards, Brandye

Posted by Brandye Barrington on October 21, 2010 at 02:06 AM PDT #

Hi Ritesh, With the new Oracle-branded certifications, the shipping information in CertManager is updating a little more slowly because the process is currently manual. We apologize for this delay, but we need time to sync our systems and work out the kinks. However, if your certificate has been delayed as a result, please go ahead and contact suncert_ww@oracle.com to request a reshipment. They typically respond within 72 hours. I have asked them to take a look at this issue and ensure that they respond right away to your earlier email if they have not already. Regards, Brandye

Hi Nicholas, We are glad that you are anxious for these exams to come into production! These are still under review. They have taken a little longer than our normal process. We expect them to be released in production sometime in January, provided we do not run into any snags along the way. Regards, Brandye Barrington

Hi there, I purchased the book "Mysql 5.0 Certification Study Guide" early this year as I was planning on getting the MySQL 5.0 Database Administrator Certificate. I found a page on the MySQL official website saying that the "Mysql 5.0 Certification Study Guide" is the best self-study book to prepare for the exam. It also listed all the particular chapter that I need to study for each exam. However, things got really busy so taking the exam was on hold. Now I decided to get the certificate again but I noticed that I can no longer find any information about "Mysql 5.0 Certification Study Guide" on the MySQL website. I understand that Oracle would recommande me to take their training courses but since I already have the book I'd love to still use it. I'm just wondering if I should still consider this book at the base to study for my exam? Thanks, Warm regards, Rae

Hi everyone, I just pass the exam for Oracle Certified Professional, Java SE 6 Programmer last December 21, 2010 at an Prometric testing site. However, I can't login in CertManager.net since it can't recognize my information. I wonder what's going on? And where else can I download the logo for the certification? Please help.

Hi Brandye ! Thank you for the response. Beta test results (for JEE6 exams) will be released in January too, or in December ? Best regards, Nicholas.

Posted by Nicholas on December 25, 2010 at 10:27 PM PST #

Hi Rae, Oracle does not map exams directly back to any single source. The study guide that you have is still a valuable guide to help you prepare for the exam. As you know, there are two exams that are required in order to obtain this certification. You can take a look at our website http://bit.ly/dLEDMh to determine the exams that you need to pass. Click on each exam title and you will be taken to an exam details page that will give you the list of objectives you'll need to prepare for each exam. These objectives will help you determine what information you need to study in your book. Regards, Brandye Barrington

Hi Asad, Sorry for the delay in posting and relpying. I wanted to find out what the situation was from our side before replying. It looks like the team received an email from you on Jan 17, but were unable to find an email received from you earlier than that. It could have been that the email address was entered slightly wrong? I believe that you should have received an eCertificate by now. I hope this sorts the issue out for you. Sorry for the delays and congratulations on your certification! Regards, Brandye Barrington

Hi Cesar, The JavaServer Faces exam has not been released yet. We released the web pages, stating a time frame that the exam would be available, but that changed. So, we had to remove the web pages. We currently do not have a date when the EE6 JSF beta exam will be released. We hope it won't be long! Regards, Brandye Barrington

Posted by santhosh on August 23, 2011 at 03:22 AM PDT #

You should have received a printed certificate for the Solaris certification. If you have not received your certificate, and you have allowed 6-8 weeks for delivery, you should contact suncert_ww@oracle.com. If your certification was granted prior to Sept 1, 2010, you will receive your certificate in soft copy and be able to print it yourself. If you need to verify your certification to someone, you can do so through CertView.oracle.com under Certification History>Publish Credentials to 3rd Parties.

Hi Anup,
You should have found this information on your printed score report. If you have met all the certification requirements, you should receive your certificate in approximately 6 weeks. You can confirm that you have completed all of your requirements and that the certification has been granted by checking certview.oracle.com. You will need some info from your Pearson VUE profile at pearsonvue.com/oracle in order to authorize your CertView account.

I am from a background verification company, in our organization one candidate apply for job and he produce Us SUN certificate so can you confirm me how can i verify the certificate without any login ID or Password ??

Posted by guest on July 25, 2012 at 02:34 AM PDT #

Candidates can provide verification of their own certifications through our self-service tool CertView. Tell the candidates to follow the steps below:

- Go to certview.oracle.com
- Login
- Go to Publish Credentials to a 3rd Party tab
- Select the certification(s) that they want to verify
- Enter the email address to which the verification should be sent
- The recipient will receive two emails - one will contain a unique, secure URL and one containing a password. These will expire very quickly, so the recipient should access the official verification right away.

Hello everyone,
I have been told that now the oracle success kit will not be delivered by one of the Pearson Prometric official as they are planning for cost reduction ... is that true??..
I passed the exam on 4th oct,2013 but still not received my success kit.. i have visited the Pearson centre and verified my address and even verified my address in the online oracle account that i have.. what else i have to do??

Posted by guest on October 27, 2013 at 09:31 PM PDT #

Pearson used to deliver exam results, not certification success kits. Now exam results are accessed through certview.oracle.com. Once all certification requirements have been completed, eCertificates are also available for download through certview.oracle.com.

Once you have completed all exam requirements, you should receive an email notification within 3-4 days that your eCertificate is available for download in CertView. There will also be instructions in that email for how to request a printed copy of your certificate.

First check your CertView account to ensure that the certification has been granted. If is has, you will be able to view and download your certificate. If it has not, you can troubleshoot by following the steps at the bottom of the Certifications Achieved page in CertView.

I have completed my certifications in Dec 2010. I lost my login credentials.
How can I see my certifications online?

Posted by madhu on March 10, 2014 at 10:26 PM PDT #

Your certifications are accessible in certview.oracle.com. Since it has been some time since you've accessed your certifications, there are a few steps you have to take.

1) Do you have a Pearson VUE web account at pearsonvue.com/oracle? If not, you'll need to create an account there. However, it is very important that you create the account using your previous Oracle Testing ID (or Prometric ID). If you are unsure of your Oracle Testing ID, I suggest that you contact Pearson VUE - pearsonvue.com/oracle/contact - and get assistance with the web account.

2) You'll also need to have an oracle.com web account if you do not already have one.

3) Once you have both above accounts created, you'll need to authenticate your CertView account at certview.oracle.com, using the email address and Oracle Testing ID from your Pearson VUE account.

You will only have to do all this once, so take heart!

I believe that you can download and print a copy of your certificate from CertView.

1. Create a web account at pearsonvue.com/oracle using your Prometric ID (Oracle Testing ID)
-- If Pearson assigns you a new ID, request them to merge the IDs.
2. After your Pearson VUE account is settled (with a single ID), go to certview.oracle.com and authenticate your account.
-- You will be able to see your certification history in CertView, and be able to print certificates and access logos.
