Hi. I have started preparing for OCP DBA certification. I wanted to know, if it is really necessary to go for training? or studying on my own would be enough?? Thank u

Posted by kalra on March 13, 2011 at 03:47 AM PDT #

Kalra, Training can definitely be a valuable tool in helping you to prepare for the exam as well as helping you to prepare for your future role as a DBA. Additionally, a triaining course is required in order to obtain DBA OCP in 9i, 10g or 11g. It may be helpful to post on our certification forum bitly.com/hdDGms and ask which classes were helpful to other candidates. You'll need to specify which exam(s) you are going for. I have done my master's in computer science and have 4 years of experience on web technology(LAMP). I want to start my career as Oracle developer so for the certification what should i do? One more thing that is I have heard that for certification we need to take admission on Oracle training center which is authorized by WDP of Oracle. Is It? Please suggest me the right path, I am in confused.

Posted by guest on May 30, 2011 at 03:29 AM PDT #

Dear Guest, You could start here http://bit.ly/kVicb7. You could also pose this question to your peers on our Certification Forum http://bitly.com/iRHsSl. Regarding training there are some certifications that required training and some that do not. If your certification path requires training, you will be able to find a list of relevant approved courses on our website. You can take training from an Oracle University training center http://bit.ly/dspqdH or with a Workforce Development Partner (WDP) https://workforce.oracle.com/pls/wdp/new_home.main. Abiola,
On our website certification.oracle.com, you can find an exam details page for each exam. On this page, we list the topics that are covered by that exam. You should be able to find all the info you need there. Good luck with your exam!

Ok, I may offend someone but I've got to say this: What moron what take the class and then immediately go take the test and be surprised that they did NOT pass?! I took the SQL I & II class (nearly 1700 pages of info) and have been studying for several months, and yet I know I'm not prepared %100 yet. Nice plan Paul, thanks for posting it.

Question: Why should I take the 051 exam instead of the 047 exam???

Thanks,

Stacy

Posted by guest on August 12, 2011 at 05:04 AM PDT #

Stacy,
Thanks for your participation in our blog. One of the differences between the two exams is that the 047 exam will get you the SQL Certified Expert certification on your path to your OCA certification. So, once you complete your OCA certification, you'll have 2 certifications for the same number of exams. That said, the 047 exam is a harder exam that 051.

You should also have a look at our certification forum http://bit.ly/oH5yAi. This question has been asked numerous times there and has received good responses from the field.

Do you think doing OCA certification will help me find a good job, I am currently working as a web designer sadly i am not getting good salary. I wish to work as a DBA

Posted by Neeshu on September 19, 2011 at 01:16 AM PDT #

Neeshu,
Surveys have shown that certification does actually give a job candidate more opportunities. OCA more entry-level than OCP, so as you move from OCA to OCP, you may see your opportunities broaden even further. You can have a look at our most recent salary survey for a little more information http://bit.ly/ZEhYX. That said, this largely depends on the job market in your region. Have a quick look at the openings in your area to determine the demand for certified DBAs.

Dears..

I want to step into the magical world of oracle hence i have little knowledge of SQL. i want to start it from scratch and i was planning to prepare for the 1Z0-52 exam.. Is it right to start from here? Can anyone suggest any book or CBT training on some less price than oracle university? Much appreciated

Posted by Rizwan on January 13, 2012 at 03:07 AM PST #

Rizwan,
The 052 exam is one exam in the path for 11g DBA OCA certification. You will also need to pass a SQL exam to obtain this certification (007, 047 or 051). You can find more information on our website at certification.oracle.com.

To find more info on books that others have recommended to help prepare for exams, our Certification Forum http://bit.ly/oDYL8C is the best place for this. Do a quick search. Others have posted some great information about this.

Good luck on your path!

Second, I think that you would find it beneficial to peruse our Oracle Certification Forum http://bit.ly/Lt5vhm where you will find a wealth of information. Then, if you want to find training centers in your area, I suggest you visit http://bit.ly/Neugik. Keep in mind that training is also available virtually and as training on demand. You should also explore those options.
