Exam Retirement: Oracle Exadata 11g Essentials (1Z0-536)

Oracle will retire "Oracle Exadata 11g Essentials" (exam 1Z0-536) on March 31, 2014*. This exam and certification have been replaced with a newer version. Candidates may obtain the new Exadata Database Machine Models X3-2 and X3-8 Certified Implementation Specialist certification by taking "Exadata Database Machine Models X3-2 and X3-8 Implementation Essentials" (exam 1Z0-485), which is currently in post beta review. The production version of this exam should be released soon. If you are considering taking the 1Z0-536 exam, you may want to consider waiting for this newer version of the exam to be released.

While the Oracle Exadata 11g Certified Implementation Specialist certification will no longer be available after March 31, 2014, existing certification holders should note that this retirement only suspends the delivery of any further exams, it does not affect your existing certification. If you currently hold this certification, your credential remains fully valid.

Both the retiring "Oracle Exadata 11g Certified Implementation Specialist" and the new "Exadata Database Machine Models X3-2 and X3-8 Certified Implementation Specialist" certifications count toward different Oracle Partner Network (OPN) specializations. Because the Oracle Exadata 11g Essentials (1Z0-536) exam will continue to be offered only through Mach 31, 2014, candidates may consider preparing instead for the newer "Exadata Database Machine Models X3-2 and X3-8 Implementation Essentials" (1Z0-485) exam to remain current.

Candidates are recommended to plan for and schedule the 1Z0-536 exam sufficiently in advance (to allow for the 14-day re-take waiting period) in the unfortunate event that they do not pass the exam on the first attempt. Re-takes of this exam will not be available after the retirement date.

Java EE 7 Job Task Analysis Survey Announcement – Participants Needed

[Editors Note: This survey has ended.]

SPONSORS:

Oracle Certification and Server Technologies Curriculum Development are working together to build two new Java EE7 Certification exams and surrounding courseware.

WHAT:
Certification provides a proven industry recognized measure of ability and skills. These Java Enterprise Edition certifications are highly sought after by individuals and companies alike. We know that as a candidate - you spend considerable time and expense learning and practicing your skills before attempting to take a certification exam, so it is essential that these exams truly measure the skills required by your job role.

Each certification exam is developed by Oracle experts and is put through a rigorous qualification process before being released. Oracle Certification provides you with credentials backed by Oracle, and provides you with the security that you, your employees and new-hires have the skills and knowledge to be successful with Oracle technology.

An Oracle certification is typically associated with a particular role related to a single technology. In the case of Java EE7, the technology is very broad and comprehensive. We are looking to you and the industry to validate our definition of these job roles. Our assumption and preliminary investigation shows that programmers and developers working with Java EE technology design and create applications using front-end technologies and/or server-side enterprise technologies.

To that end, we have created a survey to help quantify the relative importance and depth of the technologies that relate to front-end and server-side development with Java EE7.

WHO:
We are asking Java Professionals to spend 10-15 minutes to complete this survey to help to define the scope of the new certifications. In particular, we are interested in individuals who are:
  • Currently working with Java EE 7 technology or have plans to develop with Java EE 7 in the near future.
    • Ideal candidates have 2-4 years experience with the previous Java EE technology versions.
    • Should be well-versed in development trends.
  • Recruiting and/or hiring candidates to develop Java EE 7 applications.
    • Ideal candidates have 2-4 years experience hiring Java developers into a variety of roles, including front-end and server-side development.
    • Should be technically savvy and be able to articulate the skills and knowledge they believe are required to staff successful Java Enterprise Edition front-end and server-side projects.
    • Should have an opinion about the direction the industry is headed.
WHEN:

This survey will remain open through November 30, 2013.

Upgrade Your Certification to 12c

Oracle Database Administrator Certified Professionals (OCP) can upgrade to the ground-breaking new Oracle Database 12c Administrator Certified Professional certification by taking a single exam, "Upgrade to Oracle Database 12c" (1Z1-060). This is an opportunity for candidates certified on the very early Oracle7.3, Oracle8, Oracle8i, and Oracle9i Databases, as well as the more current Oracle Database 10g and 11g to upgrade to the latest version with only one exam.

While training is not mandatory for candidates to upgrade their certifications, the Oracle Database 12c: New Features for Administrators training course is highly recommended to help prepare for the exam, as it highlights an array of advanced subjects and technologies, such as the new concept of multitenant architecture, its benefits and usage.

With Oracle Database 12c, candidates will experience the benefits of an Oracle Database that is re-engineered for Cloud computing. Multitenant architecture brings enterprises unprecedented hardware and software efficiencies, performance and manageability benefits, and fast and efficient Cloud provisioning. Oracle Database 12c certifications emphasize the full set of skills that DBAs need in today's competitive marketplace.
