Answering Questions About Maximum Availability Certification

Candidates for the new Oracle Database 12c Maximum Availability Certified Expert or Oracle Database 12c Maximum Availability Certified Master may have read Matthew Morris's recent article about the value of these certifications. Matthew brought up a couple of good questions around why we created these certifications and their value, so we thought this would be a good opportunity to provide a little more information.

Often a High Availability solution requires knowledge of both Data Guard and RAC and Grid Infrastructure, not to mention solid Oracle Database Administrator skills. The addition of the Maximum Availability distinction is meant as an incentive to candidates with one or the other Expert certification to continue their learning and earn the other. A candidate who has gained the knowledge and skills of both, on top of the skills required of a Database Administrator at the Professional or Master level, is a valuable asset to any team.

This still begs the question "why add another credential title without an additional requirement?" If the candidate holds each of the required certifications and is skilled in each area, why tack on another title? The answer is simple - it's a cleaner way to denote the 3 certifications. A candidate with the 3 required certifications can easily promote himself with a single title, logo, and certification badge that holds all the weight of each individual certification.

With the Oracle Database 12c: Data Guard Administration | 1Z0-066 and Oracle Database 12c: RAC and Grid Infrastructure Administration | 1Z0-068 exams releasing soon in production, candidates are closer than ever to qualifying for this distinction.

Exam Retirement: Program With PL/SQL | 1Z0-147

Are you preparing for the Program with PL/SQL | 1Z0-147 exam? If so, register now.

Register by November 30, 2015 and take the exam by December 31, 2015.

Passing this exam, in combination with passing a SQL exam (Oracle Database 12c: SQL Fundamentals | 1Z0-061Oracle Database 11g: SQL Fundamentals I | 1Z0-051Oracle Database SQL Expert | 1Z0-047) earns you the Oracle PL/SQL Developer Certified Associate certification.

Schedule your exam well before the registration end date of November 30, 2015 to allow for an exam retake if one is needed. The 14-day retake policy will be enforced, and if you fail the exam after November 30, 2015, you will not be able to schedule a retake.

Alternatively, consider changing your strategy and prepare for Oracle Database 11g: Program with PL/SQL | 1Z0-144, which replaces exam 1Z0-147 in the Oracle PL/SQL Developer Certified Associate path.

Recommendations From Your IT Peers

Your IT certified peers have good ideas about which top certifications to put on your to-do list.

According to Certification Magazine, they asked the survey question, “Which IT certification(s) are you planning to pursue within the next 12 months? Many thousands of those surveyed responded, choosing from the more than 700 IT certs included in the survey."

Here is what you'll want to know, the two certifications in the top 5:

#2 Oracle Certified Professional
#5 Oracle Certified Associate

Do You Have One of the Best Database Certifications for 2015?

11g and 12c skills are in demand.

I just came across this article Best Database Certs for 2015 written by Ed Tiffel and posted January 22, 2015. The article was really interesting to me as Ed presented his data by opportunity; grouping certifications by job role and job postings.

It wasn’t all that surprising to me that Oracle made the list. We are the #1 Database platform. But I was pleasantly surprised to see Oracle Certified Professional listed first in his top 5!

I’m sure you’ve seen already the statistics for job growth, salary increases and overall market demand projected for Oracle DBA’s. This job market is hot. If you need some convincing check out the July blog post by Diana Gray or the May review of recent IT salaries at What’s Happening to Salaries for IT Professionals?

What’s stopping you from getting started, upgrading your certification to a newer version or proving your advanced skills with another credential?

Oracle Certification has something for everyone. See what’s available here
