"...This is my future" by Shaikha Al Shehhi

My name is Shaikha and I am an Oracle intern. I am based in United Arab Emirate in the Abu Dhabi Office. I work with the Technology team and my focus will be in Database.

When I was presented with the opportunity to join Oracle, I told myself this is my future. It is my dream to join one of the biggest companies over the world. Although 6 months may be a short period of time, I will utilize this period in the best of my ability and gain as much knowledge as I can from fellow oracle employees.

Before I began my internship in Oracle I worried about many things. One thing is how I will treat many people from different countries there? And will they be cooperative with me or not?

My first weeks at Oracle by Keneiloe

Hi  everyone,

My name is Keneiloe a Graduate Recruitment Intern based in South Africa. My first weeks at Oracle have been mind blowing and exceptionally interesting. The first day was slow and really all about getting a feel for everything and getting to know everybody. The days following that I can really say I enjoyed as I am an individual that likes to get involved, learn new things and really immerse myself into something. I know my mentor saw this in me from the beginning and she really did nurture the urge I had to get involved.

I found that the environment was nothing close to what I expected. People were really friendly and yet very much focused on their own tasks and I established very quickly that this is how people worked in Oracle. You work interdependently and you can always ask and receive help when you need it. What fascinated me the most was discovering that the person your most likely getting help from wasn’t just down the hall or even in another province but from a different country and assisted you as though they were sitting right next to you.

In my second week at Oracle unfortunately my mentor was called out of office to attend to some personal matters. This was both a blessing and curse for me as we really did establish a solid working relationship she was able to trust me in handle matters while she was away, while also teaching me things I wouldn’t have learnt otherwise...[Read More]

We are NO different

The Times South Africa recently published an article about the German exchange students who have been attending Ponelopele Oracle Secondary School in Ivory Park, Midrand, North of Johannesburg since November last year. Laura Fricke and Joschka Geczy, both 17 years old, arrived in South Africa last year and have been living with host families in Tembisa, East Rand and Kaalfontein Midrand. They may be different from everyone else in the township, but they say the only thing different about them is their skin colour.

“I am very impressed by the level of discipline at the school”, Geczy said. “The teachers here take their work very seriously, ultimately leading to pupils taking their work very seriously”. Fircke said the uniform gave them another sense of belonging. “It does not make us look and feel any different from the rest of the pupils and the teachers don’t treat us any different from them”, she said...

Fulu, from Oracle Intern to Associate Sales Consultant

“You dream of being in a company like Oracle, and when that dream comes true you get mixed feelings, mostly joy infused with fear”. When asked about my thoughts on my first week at Oracle, I didn’t give the response because it was expected of me to say so rather, it was the impression I got and the more time I spent at Oracle the happier I felt.

I joined Oracle as an intern for the 2013 graduate intake which started in March. For the first month we had a lot of training to do to get used to the organization, but I made it no secret that I wanted to remain at the end of the program and continue as an Oracle employee. So, from the first week, I became very involved in as many activities as I could. I was very proactive and passionate about my work.

When my fellow Interns and I went into our different lines of business, I was given Oracle SOA as my focus area, despite studying it at tertiary level I wasn’t clear at all about the product. In fact all that I knew went out the window as I learnt the product at Oracle. I was still a bit nervous but luckily as a grad you are part of a mini community so it was always fun to catch-up and hear how the other guys awere doing. I must be honest...

What do the participants say about the #Gradstalk in Germany?

On the 5th of November this year, Oracle Graduate Recruitment invited students from the Berlin/Potsdam area to our Customer Visit Centre in the city centre of Berlin.

We discussed current IT trends – Globalization, Data Explosion, Rise of Mobility, Social is Business, – to show students and graduates what kind of challenges and big opportunities we’re facing at the moment and at the same time what they would face when joining Oracle.

We also gave them an insight into our Sales organization. We showed them negotiation techniques and the different personality types you might be in contact with when working in Sales – or any other line of business within Oracle.

We then opened the floor to questions about current job openings, how #lifeatOracle works and their career planning in general.

And what did the attendees think?

Lutz Welpelo: ‘It was a really good event – taking place in a perfect location. I liked the relaxed atmosphere, not the typical reserved one I’ve been expecting. Altogether, it was well structured, interactive and entertaining.’

Benjamin Hoffmann: ‘I really liked the event – the topics mentioned were interesting and made a positive impact on my impression of Oracle. I got the chance to speak to two members of the Sales organization which confirmed my intention to apply for a job at Oracle. For me, it has been a successful event – no questions remained unanswered.’

What do the participants say about the Open Day in South Africa?

On the 26th of September, a group of students who were specifically selected to attend an Open day at Oracle South Africa, joined us at our offices in Woodmead, Johannesburg. The Conference room was filled with inquisitive minds. What we had in store for them was a detailed presentation about Oracle which was delivered by Zuko - Cluster Leader: Tech GB South Africa.

Here is some of the feedback from the attendees:

Maxwell Moloi: “The open day truly served its purpose and exceeded expectations in the sense that I got to find out more about Oracle and all the different opportunities it has to offer. The fact that Oracle supplies a full solution to a customer and not just part of it and how the company manages to setup professional development for their employees is what entices me to want to join the rapidly growing team of Oracle.”...
