Fulu, from Oracle Intern to Associate Sales Consultant

“You dream of being in a company like Oracle, and when that dream comes true you get mixed feelings, mostly joy infused with fear”. When asked about my thoughts on my first week at Oracle, I didn’t give the response because it was expected of me to say so rather, it was the impression I got and the more time I spent at Oracle the happier I felt.

I joined Oracle as an intern for the 2013 graduate intake which started in March. For the first month we had a lot of training to do to get used to the organization, but I made it no secret that I wanted to remain at the end of the program and continue as an Oracle employee. So, from the first week, I became very involved in as many activities as I could. I was very proactive and passionate about my work.

When my fellow Interns and I went into our different lines of business, I was given Oracle SOA as my focus area, despite studying it at tertiary level I wasn’t clear at all about the product. In fact all that I knew went out the window as I learnt the product at Oracle. I was still a bit nervous but luckily as a grad you are part of a mini community so it was always fun to catch-up and hear how the other guys awere doing. I must be honest...

What do the participants say about the #Gradstalk in Germany?

On the 5th of November this year, Oracle Graduate Recruitment invited students from the Berlin/Potsdam area to our Customer Visit Centre in the city centre of Berlin.

We discussed current IT trends – Globalization, Data Explosion, Rise of Mobility, Social is Business, – to show students and graduates what kind of challenges and big opportunities we’re facing at the moment and at the same time what they would face when joining Oracle.

We also gave them an insight into our Sales organization. We showed them negotiation techniques and the different personality types you might be in contact with when working in Sales – or any other line of business within Oracle.

We then opened the floor to questions about current job openings, how #lifeatOracle works and their career planning in general.

And what did the attendees think?

Lutz Welpelo: ‘It was a really good event – taking place in a perfect location. I liked the relaxed atmosphere, not the typical reserved one I’ve been expecting. Altogether, it was well structured, interactive and entertaining.’

Benjamin Hoffmann: ‘I really liked the event – the topics mentioned were interesting and made a positive impact on my impression of Oracle. I got the chance to speak to two members of the Sales organization which confirmed my intention to apply for a job at Oracle. For me, it has been a successful event – no questions remained unanswered.’

Spotlight on a career path: Paul, Business Development Consultant

I came to work for Oracle in November 2012 as a Customer Intelligence Representative and since then I was promoted to a Business Development Consultant, for Commercial Industries in the UK, based in Dublin.

My background was primarily in Logistics, working for such companies as Indaver Ireland, Wincanton and P&O. I spent 10 years working in this industry and gained experience in negotiating with customers and suppliers in order to meet the needs of both, monitoring the quality and quantity of goods as well as the efficiency and organisation of the movement and storage of products.

I decided to move from my logistics career in 2009 to study Information Technology in D.I.T....

What do the participants say about the Open Day in South Africa?

On the 26th of September, a group of students who were specifically selected to attend an Open day at Oracle South Africa, joined us at our offices in Woodmead, Johannesburg. The Conference room was filled with inquisitive minds. What we had in store for them was a detailed presentation about Oracle which was delivered by Zuko - Cluster Leader: Tech GB South Africa.

Here is some of the feedback from the attendees:

Maxwell Moloi: “The open day truly served its purpose and exceeded expectations in the sense that I got to find out more about Oracle and all the different opportunities it has to offer. The fact that Oracle supplies a full solution to a customer and not just part of it and how the company manages to setup professional development for their employees is what entices me to want to join the rapidly growing team of Oracle.”...

Oracle @Munich Business School

Last Wednesday, Lisa from the Graduate Recruitment team and her colleague Philipp from Sales visited the Munich Business School to talk about IT challenges, Sales and Career Opportunities at Oracle.

Although the talk started at 6:30 pm, the audience of about 100 students was still attentive and curious. First they were provided with some facts about Oracle, then Philipp went into detail and took them through current IT challenges like ‘Social’, ‘Mobile’, ‘Information’ and ‘Cloud’ and how Oracle solutions can help facing these challenges. He also demonstrated what kind of prerequisites and qualifications are required to become a successful Sales person. When talking about his own career, the audience got even more anxious to hear what he would tell them. Finally, students asked questions on career opportunities across Europe or on other topics they were interested in.

What do the participants say about Oracle Summer School?

Oracle Summer School was definitely a fantastic experience for both participants and organizers and also a great way to close the summer season. Oracle is organising every year a Summer School, for Romanian students and graduates of IT&Business Universities to learn about the corporate environment and the various career opportunities. Our goal is to provide them with the core knowledge they need for starting a career in a multinational company. Oracle Summer School lasts for 1 month and includes business presentations, meetings with Oracle specialists, soft skills trainings and a mentorship programme.

Here is what a few of this year’s participants had to say …

Andreea Sia: Oracle Summer School is an extraordinary experience that involves making contact with many people but in contrast, awakes an insight. Oracle Summer School challenges you to actively participate in your learning process and discover that what you love can become what you do. Information gained during the program is dense and challenges are there every step of the way...

The year that Was by Phillip Yi

Once again, I find myself sitting on Level 7 Tower B in Oracle's Sydney Office. Today however, marks exactly one year since joining Oracle. Looking back at my first day – the first time I stepped into the Oracle North Ryde Office, to 12 months later as I gaze to the brightly lit red Oracle sign on top of Tower B. What a journey it has been!

I have gone from Agency Recruitment to Internal Recruitment.I have gone from a direct autocratic management style with layers and layers of hierarchy, to a more consultative and mentoristic approach.I have gone from hiring level ½ Help desk, systems administrators, software engineers, business analysts, testers, application analysts to sourcing and building pipeline for  graduates, interns, associate consultants, associate application developers, business development consultants and internet sales reps.

How to prepare for an interview presentation!

During an interview process you might be asked to prepare a presentation as one of the steps in the recruitment process. Below, we want to give you some tips to help you prepare for what might be considered a daunting aspect of a recruitment process.

Main purpose of the presentation

Always keep in mind the main purpose of what the presentation is meant to convey. Generally speaking, an interview presentation is for the company to check if you have the ability to represent and sell the organization (and yourself), to the internal and external stakeholders in the position you are applying for. A presentation is often also part of the recruitment process to check whether you can structure and explain your experience and thoughts in a convincing manner. If you are unsure about the purpose of the presentation, feel free to ask ...

Hello I am Shambo Chatterjee better known as SAM. As a campus hire I joined Oracle on 1st July 2013 in Oracle IDC Hyderabad. I feel myself really lucky and good to be in a company which is the world’s largest enterprise software company, (Oracle).
