From College to Corporation - First Steps at Oracle Sales Academy

College is considered by most to be the best years of their lives.

When one looks at college, what does s/he recall? Alumni often reminisce about friends and fellow students as well as a few impactful classes and organizations to which they were overly dedicated. I personally wasn’t ready to leave college. My Fourth Year was by far my favorite and sadly that bittersweet graduation day loomed large. Fortunately, before I left the cocoon in Charlottesville, I received an offer from Oracle which on paper appeared to have everything I could want from an employer. It included intensive training in a social, team-oriented yet competitive atmosphere where there was plenty of room for professional development. The problem was, while I worked countless internships, I still had no clue what I really wanted to do. I simply had an expensive piece of paper denoting college’s end.

Workin' it! - From College to Oracle Sales Academy

Figuring out what to do after graduation can be a pretty intimidating task for most college students. As a second-semester senior with student loan payments on the horizon and scarcely a month left until commencement, it was downright terrifying.

Such was the case when I first slipped into Oracle’s campus-recruiting information session at Cornell University this past April. With little to no knowledge about what Oracle actually did or how my psychology degree could possibly be considered relevant to a technology company, I decided to see what they had to say, though I didn’t expect much.

Attention: Talent in France!

Sales AwardFor the past 6 years, Oracle has attended one of the most prestigious Students events in France, the Concours de Negociation organised by the EM Normandie and gathering sales and marketing students from several Grandes Ecoles and Universites in France. For the past 6 years, we have hired top talent from this highly rated event.

As we in France enjoy food, let me give you the recipe a successful Sales competition:

  • Select 20 top students, highly ambitious and willing to prove to Oracle Senior Managers that they have a high level of understanding complex needs of a customer and deal with customers in the most professional and sales-y manner
  • Invite Directors, Managers and Oracle colleagues to the beautiful sea-side Deauville to meet with the above mentioned students
