The Extreme Performance Tour

My name is Jorge and I work in the Public Relations and Corporate Communications Team in Iberia. I joined Oracle 3 years ago, and I started as a Marketing Trainee in the Iberia Applications Team. Then, when FY11 started, I began my current job. My duties include managing all corporate information, as well as internal and external campaigns, to our Media and key influencing relationships, that includes press release distribution and corporate public relations. My main challenge is to support the marketing teams in generating demand and developing business by making awareness through different media tools and PR Campaigns.
Our commitment to support marketing teams is based on building awareness of events and campaigns by press releases, media invitation, video promotion and social media ‘buzz’.
Last week, I attended ‘The Extreme Performance Tour’ at Madrid Casino, completing an event tour held in the most important of EMEA´s cities, organized by the local Hardware marketing teams, and I would like to share our experience of this event with you all.
Before the event, we recorded a video about Oracle Hardware Systems, with our local spokesperson Manuel Vidal, to extend through media tools, the salesforce and help the marketing teams, to reach a greater audience with different and entertaining content.
During the event, the Iberia PR team, started work. First of all, cameras ON…we recorded some support images to compose our future videos, shooting at attendance in the keynote room, spokespeople speeches and non-business activities. Then we had 2 ‘creation’ duties. First, to write a wrap-up press release to distribute to main media and IT influencers as soon as possible, and second, tweet key messages announced in each keynote and upload pics of attendance following the event through Twitter and Facebook. We had a lot of work to do. The Hardware Unit presented its whole systems portfolio. The Casino was about to burst with more than 300 attendees! After Joao Taron´s welcome speech, Mario Derba (VP & South Europe Hardware Leader) gave us an overview of our hardware strategy and portfolio, animated with some fun videos. Later the sessions were divided into 2 parts, covering all of Oracle´s Hardware stack. After 4 ‘product-induction’ hours (Exadata and Exalogic, SPARC architecture, Supercluster T4-4, and Operative systems: Oracle Linux, Solaris, ODA, ZFS and Pillar Axion), we started the best part…Wine Casino!
8 tables with different casino games, but instead of cash, there was wine. Based on a wine tasting, the challenge was to win tickets around the different tables to take part in the draw. There were different games… guess which type of wine while wearing dark glasses and then taste the red wine and guess which Spanish state it was from and where it was made; white & red wine roulette…all very exciting! This kind of non-business activities created a great atmosphere where Oracle sales consultants interacted with clients and nurtured prospects in a different and relaxed way to enhance their relationships.
The Event is now over. Although I have now attended many Oracle events, this has indeed been one of the best. Congratulations to the Hardware marketing Team (Luis Guimaraes and Helena Martinez). To finish our working day, we wrote an event wrap-up press release and distributed this to journalists with the aim of achieving coverage on media online platforms the next day.
