Spotlight on an office - Malaga!

Hello all and thanks for taking the time to read this! First of all, I’d like to introduce myself, my name is Carlos Martín Martínez and I’m an Associate Sales Consultant in the EMEA Presales Center based in Málaga. This leads me to explain two things: what is the EMEA Presales Center or EPC and why there’s an office in Málaga.

The EPC is a virtual resource for EMEA’s Presales organizations to assist them with all the back-office and remote work a Sales Consultant normally does, like preparing demos, presentations and delivering webcasts, in order to let the more experienced Sales Consultant spend more time delivering demos and spending time at the customer’s site. It started some years ago in Bangalore and was called iTech back then, then it reached Bucharest with the name of Presales Center (PSC) to be in a better time zone for European organizations to be later renamed as what we know now as EPC and finally starting in Málaga in 2010 for an even more localized service. The team in Málaga is small but growing, right now we have 6 sales consultants for CRM and 5 for Technology (Fusion Middleware and CoreTech) and the main point of our team is to be the link between our respective countries’ Presales team and the EPC and to support them in all that we can, gaining their trust so they count more and more on the EPC services.

And why in Málaga? Because Málaga has been, for several years now already, the off-shore office for consulting (the Málaga International Consulting Center or MICC) and Sales (Oracle Direct) so it seemed natural to bring here the equivalent for Presales. The office is therefore 100% international and full of young people so the fun is guaranteed and every week you meet somebody new.

A regular work day, no matter if you’re in OD, MICC or EPC, usually involves several phone calls and you’ll be primarily contacting your field market (Spanish Presales in my case for example). Then you’ll be doing your core work depending on what role you have and here you’ll be at almost all times your own manager. You decide what work you take and you’ve got almost total freedom to do it as you like, as long as you get it done. Of course anyone will be more than willing to lend you a hand if they can and if they can’t, they’ll always be up to have some drinks after work and share the experiences of the day.

The Oracle office is in the Parque Tecnológico de Andalucía or PTA, a very new and beautiful complex with everything ranging from some nice places to eat, palm trees and even an artificial lake in the middle. Every Thursday in the afternoon we get either pizza, Mexican, American or Spanish food delivered to the office so everyone can enjoy and have a chat with each other and afterwards at night some of us attend a language exchange with people from everywhere at a pub in the center of Málaga.

Speaking of the center of Málaga, it’s big enough to have all sort of services and specially pubs, restaurants and clubs but almost everything is at a no more than 15 minutes walk distance. And in fact the weather is always inviting you to take a walk, go by bike or even skate along the beach!

If you ever feel like going out and see other places, from Málaga you can rapidly reach by car very popular towns from Costa del Sol like Benalmádena, Torremolinos, Marbella or Fuengirola, which are very quiet in the winter but full of tourists from all around the world in the summer, or spend a weekend skiing in Sierra Nevada (Granada) or surfing in Cádiz. Besides, Málaga has one of the biggest airports in Spain with flights to several locations around Europe and also has an AVE station, which is Spain’s fastest train line which will get you to Madrid in 2 and a half hours .

All in all, Málaga and its surroundings are a great place to live in, with lots of things to do and in general a very international environment you can never get bored! And the work in Oracle is always exciting and challenging and a great opportunity no matter your background and no other company lets you develop your own career the way Oracle does!

Carlos, thanks for giving us the opportunity of knowing a bit better both yourself (role) and your current environment (Malaga's center). I am sure that this will be inspiring for colleagues who have the same background and that are currently seeking for a career at Oracle.
Many thanks for sharing this with us!
