Oracle EMEA Football Tournament
By Tim Koekkoek on Jul 19, 2013
The weekend started off on Friday evening with the draw for weekend matches in one of Munich’s typical “beer gardens”. After the dust settled from the draw, the group stages promised some nice clashes between, for instance, Romania and Italy (teams ranking 1 and 2 in last years’ tournament) in Group 1. In Group 2, people were looking forward to the match between Germany and England and in Group 3, Spain were the favourite against Austria, Hungary, Switzerland and Turkey.
After the first day of football (and for many, a long night in Munich!), there were 8 teams left who could still go for victory on Sunday. After the quarter and semi finals in the morning, the final was between Ireland and Spain. After a great match, the Irish team took the victory over Spain and were crowned champions of the 2013 Oracle EMEA Football Tournament.
This weekend wasn’t just about football, but also about meeting and socializing with colleagues from all over EMEA. It has been a great experience for all who have participated and highlighted the international culture in Oracle.
