Meet our Interns: Jan, Intern in Czech Republic
By Maria Sandu on Jun 21, 2013
1. Please introduce yourself and your current role at Oracle!
Hi, my name is Jan, but everybody calls me Honza which is an informal version of Jan in the Czech Republic. I graduated from the Czech Technical University in Prague and decided to stay here even though my family lives in Eastern Bohemia. I am interested in web technologies, OSS software, learning, volunteering and of course, chocolate. I am one of the many Oracle Interns who joined the ECEMEA Sales and Presales Internship Program a couple of months ago and I focus on Oracle Fusion Middleware Presales.
In my spare time I sit on the board of a University organization through which I organize a big charity ball and I also create and maintain websites for nonprofit organizations.
2. How were your first few months @Oracle?
I didn’t know what to expect when I joined Oracle. I think I was a little scared at the beginning as most of my tasks were related to studying and learning, not work. But actually, after a couple of weeks I realized that it was the right thing for me to do and that my colleagues knew I needed to study first if I wanted to perform to the best of my abilities. It’s quite different from other companies where interns do the tasks that the rest of the team doesn’t want to do. I learn about Fusion Middleware technologies and sometimes I visit customers or go to seminars. It’s fantastic that I can actually do the activities that really help me grow and improve my technical skills!
3. How can students maximize their chances of getting an Internship @Oracle?
First of all, becoming an intern at Oracle is a great idea! If you are considering a more technical position, you should be up to date with the latest news from IT and have your own projects, as well as a good CV. You should also make sure you have a good LinkedIn profile as you never know who might comes across your profile and makes you an offer you cannot refuse. For Instance, the great Oracle Recruiters found my CV on LinkedIn and this is how I got to work here!
