How important is the work environment for you?

My name is Marie and I am a Partner Intelligence Support Intern. I’ve realised how important this last aspect is when I joined Oracle. I am in the final year at the Charles University in Prague, studying Social Geography and Regional Development. If you’re thinking that my studies are actually quite different from what I do at my job, so it is. Fortunately, the faculty helped improve some of the skills required in this position and this is how I got to Oracle. I first thought that I would have a career in Social Geography, but eventually I prospected the job market and realised there are other jobs I would like to have. Joining the Partner Intelligence Support team has definitely been a good decision, especially because of my colleagues and the environment I am working in.
Does the first day at the job matter? Absolutely! Since my first day at Oracle, I’ve felt really welcomed. It was a big surprise for me that there was a buddy assigned to help me with whatever I needed. It made a big difference having a person there for me whenever I needed help or had questions. Actually, I felt this support from the whole team as they were willing and available to help if necessary. I soon got the chance to meet more colleagues from different departments as we had a Christmas party. I had some pleasant discussions with them and felt once again welcomed within Oracle.
Three months have passed since I joined the Oracle team and I feel I am a valued member. Even though I have many tasks and sometimes I have administrative things to do that aren’t very enjoyable, people give me the energy and still make this job be the one I want to have! It’s a relaxed atmosphere where people make jokes and share their opinions, ask for advice and trust each other. It’s a big plus for me that I’m working in a multicultural environment that helps me improve my language skills and also meet people from other countries. One other great thing is that we often go out and socialize together. Not only do we spend time at work, but actually we go for a drink after work. It’s a great way to make new friends. We also do all kind of sports together which means that we have a lot of fun.
Overall, I really appreciate the opportunity of having a long career within Oracle. My internship is for one year, but I plan to stay longer than that within Oracle. Being here and interacting with many people and different teams have helped me see that this is the career I want to have and this is the place where I want to be.
