Internship Memories from Latin America

"I'm Daniel from Costa Rica and I started with Oracle as an e-Talent in 2013 upon graduating from ULACIT (Universidad Latinoamericana de Ciencia y Tecnología) in San Jose, where I majored in Industrial Engineering.
After meeting the Oracle team onsite at a University event, I knew immediately that the e-Talent program was for me - I was assigned to the pre-sales department and could apply my engineering knowledge to my role. The onboarding team at Oracle was really enthusiastic and began to show me how this huge corporation operates and supports thousands of industries around the world with our software tools.I started out being part of the team that manages businesses in Central America.
My first task was to learn as much as possible about Oracle solutions in order to become an expert in my field and be able to present knowledgably. I had to be comfortable and capable of conducting product demonstrations to potential customers. I got to work with other sales and pre-sales departments providing information to colleagues and this was a great way to network and meet employees and fellow e-Talents. Today in my current role, I am supporting the business in seven countries traveling almost every week.
The e-Talent program has helped me to develop my professional skills I felt that it was a very promising way to start my career as part of the Oracle team. The Sales Consultant Manager was my Technical Coach (“TC” for short) who from day one set a schedule of meetings with me for the duration of the entire e-Talent program. We met on a weekly basis to assess and follow up on my personal and professional progress, having these feedback sessions greatly prepared me for continuing my career at Oracle. Today, my TC is still my boss and Presales Consultant for my region.
A good work/life balance is important to me – on my free time I love to go traveling and getting to know new places. So far, I've been to several countries across Latin America like Mexico and Colombia among others as well as visiting the United States and Canada. I love to play soccer (as a fan, not a pro!) and running in the mornings to keep fit and healthy. On weekends you may also find me watching a good movie, enjoying life with my friends and my girlfriend.
I hope to grow professionally within the company and am striving towards getting a management role soon. The support that is given in Oracle is amazing; every employee has the tools to understand what his or her development career path is and how to reach it. Now it is up to me to continue making Oracle the leader in software solutions - I am sure that my professional career has only just started and is about to get even better."
