HIG 2.0

If you go down to the HIG today, you're in for a big surprise... well, a mild double-take, perhaps. The official HIG version is now 2.0, which will hopefully signify the start of a more frequent update regime.

Once you get over the inevitable excitement, you'll probably realise it's more of a 1.2 than a 2.0, but hey-- we have to get people to read it somehow :)

Comments:

Any sort of overview of the changes so that people who've read the first don't have to read the whole thing again?

Seth has a list which he'll hopefully post soon... in the meantime I've added a link to the diff'ed version of 2.0 that highlights the changes from v1.0.

A suggestion - under the section on use of aAnimation in the Status Notification Area, you provide the following guideline:
Icons should not usually appear animated. They may change to indicate a change of state, but should not do so when that change is occurs regularly rapidly. A battery status indicator would usually change slowly, therefore an icon is appropriate. By contrast, a load meter would always be changing, therefore it should use a flat image.
The last seems to be a bad example, since a constantly-changing load meter doesn't really belong in the status area at all - it's the perfect example of when to use an applet instead. Possibly that should be added to the section on applets vs notification icons - anything displaying continously changing information should be an applet...

Yeah, the notification area guidelines are still really rough at the moment... personally I'd probably have pulled them until the next release, but it wasn't my decision :) Could you file a bug against the HIG so we don't forget, please?
