Service Domain Manager (SDM) Managed Host Installation

Service Domain Manager (SDM) Installation, Part 2 (Managed Host)

Continuing on the  SDM installation, now SDM software will be installed on any managed hosts. This allows the SDM master can manage the SDM managed hosts.

As we did in the SDM master installation, we created the following users locally (or use any naming services):

# groupadd -g 501 sgeadmin
# useradd  -u 501 -g 501 -d /var/opt/sge sgeadmin
# useradd  -u 502 -g 501 -d /var/opt/sge sdmadmin

Also prepare the following directories

# mkdir /var/spool/sdm   [This must done before executing the sdmadm command]
# mkdir -p /opt/sdm/6.2beta
# chown -R sdmadmin /opt/sdm/6.2beta   [Copied the SDM distribution in this directory]

Now we are ready to install SDM software for the managed host. Below are shown two different ways to install the SDM software on a managed host.

  1. Using the SDM administrator user's keystore and CA cert
  2. Copy sdmadmin keystore and CA cert to a location shared by all managed hosts for installation convenience [Done only once on the SDM master host]

    # cp /var/spool/sdm/sdm62beta2/security/users/sdmadmin.keystore \\
    /var/opt/sge/6.2beta/shared

    # cp /var/spool/sdm/sdm62beta2/security/ca/ca_top/cacert.pem \\
         /var/opt/sge/6.2beta/shared

    # /opt/sdm/6.2beta/bin/sdmadm -s sdm62beta2 \\
        -p system \\
    -keystore /var/opt/sge/6.2beta/shared/sdmadmin.keystore \\
    -cacert   /var/opt/sge/6.2beta/shared/cacert.pem \\
install_managed_host \\     [or in short form, imgdh]
    -au sdmadmin \\
-d /opt/sdm/6.2beta \\    [Will be calculated if not provided]
-l /var/spool/sdm/sdm62beta2 \\  [Default spool location, no need to specify]
    -cs_url node0:6239

    ....
Install managed host command is using default local spool dir: /var/spool/sdm/sdm62beta2
A configuration for system, "sdm62beta2", has been added
    CA certificate updated in /var/spool/sdm/sdm62beta2/security/ca/ca_top/cacert.pem

Now we need to start the JVM for the managed host locally after the installation completes using the following command.

    # /opt/sdm/6.2beta/bin/sdmadm -s sdm62beta2 -p system startup_jvm
    jvm         host  result  message
    --------------------------------------------------------

    executor_vm node1 STARTED

  3. Without using the SDM administrator user's keystore and CA cert

By using the SDM administrator name and password directly, the managed host installation can be done as well.

   # /opt/sdm/6.2beta/bin/sdmadm -s sdm62beta2 \\
-p system \\
-ppw \\
install_managed_host \\
-au sgeadmin \\
-d /opt/sdm/6.2beta \\
-l /var/spool/sdm/sdm62beta2 \\ [if default dir used, no need to specify]
-cs_url node0:6239

The following shows the list of files created once the SDM managed host installation is completed on a host.
