Open Source Days in Istanbul - October 2009 Preview Workshop on Java EE 6 and GlassFish v3
By Turgut Aydin on Eki 02, 2009
This year, we have been delivering a series of workshops that we call "Open Source Days" in Istanbul.
The workshops are usually focused on MySQL or GlassFish, and the level of interest has been going up from the first one. As a result of this, we had to move the location from our small meeting room to a larger meeting facility at "Sun Plaza". The name is a pleasant coincidence, but we like it. Most participants think it's our office building! It's a shame I don't have a picture of the classroom with the participants, but at least I have found a picture of the "Sun Plaza" building!
This particular session was different from the previous ones. We prepared a "sneak preview" session covering Java EE 6 and Glassfish v3 this time. Despite this announced content, we even had people who were new to Java EE, who were considering to adopt Java EE as a new technology, and therefore a platform to go with it.
This was another successful session in itself in terms of participation and level of interest. It was also an opportunity for us to familiarize with our upcoming technologies and products.
This particular workshop once more made me think that local resourcing is very important for adoption. We got lots of inquiries for Turkish content, and the technical paper I prepared for the participants seemed to attract quite a bit of attention.
In the coming days, I plan to prepare and post Glassfish and Java EE 6 stuff in Turkish here, at least stuff necessary to get people started with. Similar to the content I have posted for MySQL.
