Belgium Stop and New Press Reports
By pmonday on Aug 07, 2007
The Project Blackbox Tour made its way through Belgium (Brussels specifically) the week of July 1st (while I was languishing away in my hospital bed wondering why Amazon.com has not ordered a ton of our Project Blackbox data centers to facilitate Amazon Unbox media downloads and quick and economical data center build-outs).
First, a great article for you to read from IT Professional in either French or Dutch:
Next, this is a blog entry sent to me from Inge Vaneycken during the Brussels tour stop. Enjoy along with a few pictures from Barry Fogg, resident photo expert (you can go to Barry's picture site to see his unfiltered shots from most of the overseas Project Blackbox Tour).
So Blackbox arrived in Belgium, the land of beer and french fries
It stayed in front of the Sun office in Zaventem for the 2 days.
Everything went fine, customers were really enthusiastic about the whole concept. And the engineers had a lot of fun doing the tours!
What else can I say that has not already been said?
We got some great suggestions on where to use it: at the Olympic games, at Werchter (one of the major European music festivals), and think of the 'Tour de France'?!
Some customer impressions and quotes:
- "What about the colour, black will not be an option in a desert!"
- "It even fits in a C130!" [Note from Paul: I thought about this comment a bit...then I surfed around and found a link...I am now pleased to announce this is one of those "classic" comments that are well worth looking into!]
- "Can Sun do a drop ship when I have a problem with my current data center?"
- "Talking about virtualization: following the Solaris containers, we now have the Blackbox container."
A big thank you goes to the 'men in black': Bob Schilmoeller, our US Blackbox expert, even after numerous presentations and tours, still a smile on his face; Barry Fogg, doing much more than just driving the truck and of course our local team, Philippe Stockman, Filip Vercauteren, Johny Vermaelen, Christian Vanden Balck and Erik Vanden Meersch, super to see your enthusiasm! It was fun working with you all, looking forward to the next Blackbox stopping by in Belgium!
Good luck with the rest of the tour, Inge
