Oracle Big Data Spatial and Graph - technical tips, best practices, and news from the product team

Multimedia Analytics feature of Oracle Big Data Spatial and Graph

A new Multimedia Analytics feature is available Oracle Big Data Spatial and Graph 1.1.

The Multimedia feature is a framework that enables video and image processing to run in Hadoop. As a sample the framework ships with OpenCV libraries (open source computer vision, opencv.org) and works with OpenCV face recognition out of the box. The framework is extensible, the intent is to enable third party/partner libraries of video and image processing to be used with the framework.

Additional details are in the documentation.

Users can: (1) Leverage Hadoop to process video and images and (2) Integrate video/image analytics into Big Data applications for richer insights.

An example of analysis with OpenCV face recognition: Results are output as JSON/CSV/images, which can easily be integrated into query and analytics tools. For example, Big Data SQL can query the resulting JSON files to answer queries such as 'how many times does person X appear in this video and at what timestamps?' The results can also be integrated into analytics tools such as Big Data Discovery.
