    I need clarification on RDC.

After updating the connection in weblogic server and RPD, Does OLTP Connection details for Variable and Initialization Blocks automatically gets changed or should we need to upload the RPD. Please calrify

When you use RDC, RPD doesnt make use of the Connection Variables. Instead it will use the JDBC/JNDI connection string. So there is no need for changing the Connection Variables..

For any changes in RPD, the RPD needs to be uploaded (Lift & Shift) again. When the RPD is uploaded, the init blocks / repository variables will be initialized from the new connection.

So, even when you change the JDBC connection details in WLS, it is required to upload the RPD again. Then only the Init blocks / repository variables will be executed

What is the procedure for exporting application roles from OBIEE, and which release supports this approach

  • Anand Thursday, February 23, 2017

Current Version of BICS, doesnt support exporting App roles from OnPrem OBIEE version to BICS. It is supported in Analytics Suite Cloud Services.

  • hussam Thursday, February 23, 2017

Then for clients running BIApps they will need Analytics Suite.

The other option would be to use IaaS instead, but using this option will they get the security integrated with eBS (SSO, and roles and responsibilities) similar to BIApps configuration on prem?

In response to hussam - I believe you can use OBIEE 12c to get a snapshot of .bar file which you can directly imported into Oracle BICS using Console. However, the same is not possible in lower versions like 11g. If not, they need to be manually created in BICS environment.

Anand (Author) - you may want to more information on this as Section 2 and item 2 just says - 'Upload the delivered Application Roles bar file by clicking on Upload Snapshot' but does not contain any more details.

From BIAPPS, we have bundled all the out of the Box Approles as a BAR file and it can be downloaded and used in BICS. That's what we are referring in Section 2.

Bar file generated from OBIEE 12c cannot be used in BICS.

Hi I was interested to find out if there is a server log maintained for all OBIEE customers so that if when a service request is issued it can clarify certain issues, for example can oracle support system
provide user tracking with regards to folder movement within the OBIEE catalogue?

Need to check with Oracle Support team for these questions.
