As you all might know, Sun's foundation (Stanford University Network) started with students from Stanford. Till date, we tag the vision - 'The Network is the Computer'. IMO, This vision statement is getting even stronger with age. Read Jonathan's blog entry about this in more detail here.
Last week, Madhu Konda and I presented a talk for University of Ljubljana Faculty of Computer and Information Science,
Slovenia on GlassFish Performance at Menlo Park, CA.
around 20 attendees and the students are on a trip to visit more
companies in Bayarea including Cisco, Google and NetApp etc.The questions we received were very interesting in nature. If i may, I would call these students as 'Entrepreneurial Students'. We have covered more of JVM internals, GC collectors and its impact, Scalability and Clustering, Rocking GlassFish Performance and little bit on energy efficient 'T2000' systems.
The Open Source arena is changing the game. The barrier to entry to start a company is 'ZERO' for this generation of students. Since access to technologies and infrastructure is so easily reachable today than 5 years ago. IMO, This spurs more innovation from young minds. This is good news to the planet!
