250 Semantic Web Tools

James Gosling recently quoted Lao Tzu: "The journey of a thousand miles begins beneath one's feet.". This is so true, I have a picture for it.

To know where we stand now on the Semantic Web, nothing can be more helpful than the list of 250 Semantic Web Tools put together by Mike Bergman. This is nearly large enough to justify a small online doap database.

Comments:

Danny Ayers, put together a short xslt stylesheet to turn the tables in into doap rdf which he made available here. Cool. This could be really useful starting point. Just need a SPARQL endpoint, to query it.

Well one can query Danny's doap file using Tabulator. Now it's just a matter for some of the sites to put links to their doap files on their home page for this to be really interesting. Any techniques on how to do this?

One should also consult the extensive RDF guide put together by Dave Becket.

You can use DOAP auto-discovery to link tool homepages to their DOAP profiles.

Install Semantic Radar for Firefox and it shall alert you of home pages that contain DOAP auto-discovery info (look for a DOAP icon in browser's status bar). Here are some sample pages that contain links to DOAP:

  • http://crschmidt.net/doap/doaper.html

Very neat. I had in fact just installed Semantic Radar last week. But thanks for pointing me to two good examples. I'll try to make sure all my projects are correctly set up :-)

And if you have any ideas, suggestion or bugfixes for Semantic Radar please send them to the SIOC-Dev mailing list or directly to me. :-)
