Koyaanisqatsi, Life Out Of Balance is perhaps one of the most beautful films ever. I can watch it again and again. There is no "action", just beautiful pictures and music by Philip Glass. It is a poetic film.
The metaphor that is slowly elaborated here is the relation between natural processes and technological processes. At time one could think that the film tries to make a point about there being an imbalance between the natural and the human world, but I am not so sure it does not also show the continuity between them.
It also strikes me how automated production processes were in the early 80ies! 25 years have passed since then. Computers are much faster and cheaper, 25 years of research later: Where are we now?
