Mike Frank is a Product Management Director for Oracle MySQL and a recognized expert in database security, compliance, and enterprise data platforms. He is an author of the CIS Benchmark for MySQL and the DISA Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) for MySQL, helping define practical security standards for mission-critical database environments.
At Oracle, Mike works across MySQL security, observability, backup and recovery, high availability, developer tooling, software delivery, and enterprise integration. His areas of focus include security architecture and hardening, identity and authentication, encryption and key management, auditing, data masking, database firewalls, OpenTelemetry, OCI Oracle Log Analytics, and regulatory compliance.
Mike is also active in the MySQL Community, engaging with users, developers, partners, and practitioners across the ecosystem. He is a frequent conference speaker and technical author, sharing practical guidance on MySQL security, operations, observability, architecture, and emerging technologies.
An entrepreneur as well as a product leader, Mike helped build successful database and security software startups, including Idera and Gazzang. Both companies achieved successful acquisition outcomes: Idera was acquired by TA Associates, while security startup Gazzang was acquired by Cloudera, where its encryption and key-management technology became part of Cloudera's enterprise security portfolio.
Over his career, Mike has helped bring more than 15 products to market, spanning database management, cybersecurity, Linux encryption, key management, backup and recovery, compliance, cloud, observability, and developer technologies. His career combines startup entrepreneurship, enterprise product leadership, deep technical expertise, and ongoing engagement with the database community.
