Mark Hornick is a Director, Oracle Advanced Analytics Product Management, currently focusing on Oracle’s R technologies. He works with internal and external customers in the application of R for scalable advanced analytics in Oracle Database, Oracle Exadata, and Oracle Big Data Appliance – on-premises and cloud. Mark is coauthor of Using R to Unlock the Value of Big Data, Oracle Big Data Handbook, and Java Data Mining: Strategy, Standard, and Practice, and blogs at blogs.oracle.com/R. He joined Oracle’s Data Mining Technologies group in 1999 through the acquisition of Thinking Machines Corp., and transitioned to R technologies in 2010. Prior, Mark contributed to research and development in the areas of distributed object management, extended transaction models, workflow management systems, and telecommunications network monitoring and control object models at GTE Laboratories, now Verizon. Mark is a founding member of and Oracle Advisor to the IOUG Business Intelligence Warehousing and Analytics (BIWA) SIG, serving as Content Selection Committee Chair for BIWA Summit events. He is also the Oracle representative to the R Consortium. Mark holds a Bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University and a Master’s degree from Brown University, both in Computer Science.
