Methodology Again…

Noticed my rate of contribution to the world of PM blogging has dropped off a bit in the last months as I have  been spending more time in my new role of leading Delivery in the Oracle Consulting Managed Services in Western Europe (that was a lot of capital letters in a row…sorry for that)

Picked up on a nice blog entry courtesy of a tweet from Bas over at Project Shrink…

I basically agree with the guy – and he handily skirts the sterile semi-religious positions relating to SCRUM/Agile/Waterfall etc.

So it’s not about the tool (methodology) it is about how well you put it to use. Taking the craft analogy a bit further…

  • A good PM & team should be able to achieve a good result regardless of specific methodology used – they get the best out of any methodology and tune it to their purpose
  • Some tools play better in certain domains and industries, but some basics never change. I like Glen Allemans “4 questions” approach to this. Never forgetting the basics, you consciously choose & adapt your tools to get the right result given other parameters…
