Tango Overview - Now Translated in Chinese

"Project Tango: Adding Quality of Service and .NET Interoperability to the Metro Web Services Stack" - The original article, introduced here, provides an introduction to how different Quality-of-Service, such as Security, Reliability and Transactions are enabled in Metro. One of the core benefits of Metro is interoperability with .NET 3.0 and the article describes how that is baked in the Web services stack.

The same article is now available in Chinese at Sun Developer Network China. Thanks to the Globalization Team in China for completing this effort, and Zhen Tao in particular who did the translation!

Metro runtime is available as part of GlassFish v2 UR1 and tooling is available in NetBeans 6.

Let us know if you'll be interested in creating a localized version of this article.

Wangfujing Street - Authentic China in Beijing

If you want to see authentic China in Beijing without going to country side or hotungs, Wangfujing Street has it. This street is located at Wangfujing station using Line 1 of Subway.

This street has big name stores (with big bill boards), shopping malls and lots of people. Especially the side streets which sell street food are just amazing. Scorpion and Sea Horse are some of the common dishes but I just could not muster the courage to try them.

The Beijing 2008 Olympics store was crowded and had some nice goodies. No bargaining there though ;)

You can also buy all sort of mementoes like magnet, playing cards, decoration pieces etc from in the side streets. And here you DO need to exercise your bargaining skills.

A complete album is available here:

Harbin Ice and Snow Festival Opens

The annual Ice and Snow Festival has opened in the North Eastern Chinese city of Harbin. The temperature in Harbin goes forty below zero, both Fahrenheit and Centigrade, during winter and stays below freezing most of the winter. Instead of suffering the cold, residents of Harbin put up a great annual festival of ice and snow sculptures and competitions. The show official runs from January 5 - Feb 5, 2007. Without giving more details, dig into the following links to see some beautiful pictures:

It's surprising that festival does not have it's own home page.
