soapUI - Testing JAX-WS Web service in NetBeans

Guest Author

Java API for XML Web

Services
(JAX-WS) provides a complete API to develop and invoke Web

services over multiple transports (for example HTTP).

NetBeans IDE provides first-class

support for

developing
and

invoking
a JAX-WS based Web service. The missing piece is

functional/compliance/load testing of the Web service. That's where

soapUI helps.

soapUI is free and open source desktop application for invoking (feature
list
) and testing of Web services over HTTP. It comes with a
NetBeans plugin that
provides all the functionality from within the IDE to develop and test a Web
service. After you
install the plugin
, follow

this screencast
to learn how to create functional and load tests for a JAX-WS
Web service.

Thanks to Alexis for the pointer!

SOAP UI is also mentioned in JAX-WS User Guide as part of 'Usefult Tools in your Toolbox", see: https://jax-ws.dev.java.net/guide/Useful_tools_in_your_toolbox.html

I've been using the WS client generator for some time. Version 5.5.1 of NB changed it so some applications working as client of IIS web services ceased to work. The WS returned two values: one string as return value and another string through a byref parameter. The WS call is not performed.

Aniceto, Can file a bug at netbeans.org ?

I've tried sometimes to file a bug but I haven't be able.
Try to generate a web service client reference to this service
    https://ovc.catastro.meh.es/ovcservweb/OVCSWLocalizacionRC/OVCCallejero.asmx?wsdl
    either with JAX-WS or JAX-RPC.
That webservice works fine called from VB.NET.
After trying to create it twice, each time for JAX-WS or JAX-RPC, the NB6M10 wizard didn't let me to select the JAX version; combo box became disabled, even after deleting both web service client references.
This also happens with NB 5.5.1 and 5.5. In fact, sometimes both JAX versions are available and sometimes not.
    Best regards,
