new wcap based server

Several calendar server projects have added (partial) support for Sun WCAP protocol. The latest I have found (here) is the Fin Calendar Server. While WCAP has been around for almost 10 years, those alternative implementations have started to appear only recently.

The fact that several fat calendar clients (Sun Outlook Connector, Thunderbird + Lightning, Evolution, Kontact, ...) are now WCAP aware is probably the main reason for this sudden interest. Its very simple design makes it also quite easy to understand and implement.

In addition to WCAP, Buni's Meldware Communication Suite offers IMAP, Webmail, Web calendar (including freebusy), an address book, graphical administration, graphical installation and database storage of email and calendar. We've tested the recent build extensively with Thunderbird/Lightning+WCAP. The next milestone will focus on Outlook and Evolution. We're using the excellent OpenDS project for address information.

[Trackback] Lesson: 1. I guess I compete with myself, what I leaned by today that makes fin all the better solution. 2. It is a very small world on the web, your/my past can haunt even faster. It is foolish to assume otherwise but hey: Nice Try!
