Podcast Show Notes: Thomas Erl on SOA, Cloud, and Service Technology

The fifth International SOA, Cloud, and Service Technology Symposium happens on September 24-25 in London. The latest OTN ArchBeat Podcast features a four-part conversation with three people who are involved in that event.

Making his third appearance on the ArchBeat podcast, Thomas Erl is the man behind the Symposium. He is a best-selling IT author and the founder of SOASchool.com and CloudSchool.com. Thomas has been the world's top-selling SOA author for over five years and is the series editor of the eponymous Prentice Hall Service Technology Series from Thomas Erl, as well as the editor of the Service Technology Magazine.

Tim Hall is the Senior Director of product management for the Oracle Enterprise Repository and Oracle’s Application Integration Architecture products. He has over 10 years experience in systems integration consulting and nearly 10 years in Service-Oriented Architecture related product management across the SOA governance and management disciplines.

Demed L'Her is Senior Director of Product Management within the Oracle Engineering team where he leads the team responsible for service integration products including Oracle SOA Suite, Oracle Service Bus, Oracle WebLogic Integration, and others.

  • Listen to Part 1: What's new about this year's SOA, Cloud, and Service Technology Symposium?
  • Listen to Part 2: What forces are shaping the role of the IT architect?
  • Listen to Part 3: If the role of the IT architect is one of the most misunderstood and maligned roles in IT, why is there growing interest in training and certification to fill that role?
  • Listen to Part 4: Thomas Erl talks about the latest titles in his Prentice Hall Service Technology Series of books.

Podcast Show Notes: SOA Made Simple

My guests for the latest OTN ArchBeat Podcast are Lonneke Dikmans and Ronald van Luttikhuizen, managing partners at Vennster (http://www.vennster.nl/) an  IT consultancy based in the Netherlands. Lonneke and Ronald are Oracle ACE Directors, very active members of the OTN architect community, and they have participated as panelists in previous ArchBeat podcasts. But given their collaboration on an upcoming book on service oriented architecture, I thought it was time to let them have the program to themselves.

Podcast Show Notes: Thomas Erl and Anne Thomas Manes on SOA Governance

The latest OTN Archbeat Podcast features an interview with two of the most prominent voices in Service Oriented Architecture.

Thomas ErlThomas Erl [LinkedIn | Homepage] is a best-selling IT author and CEO of Arcitura Education Inc. and SOA Systems Inc., and is also involved in SOASchool.com and CloudSchool.com. He is the series editor of the Prentice Hall Service Oriented Computing Series that also bears his name, and, as if that's not enough, he is also the editor of Service Technology Magazine. And if you Google him you'll find plenty more.

Anne Thomas ManesAnne Thomas Manes [LinkedIn | Blog | Twitter] is a VP and distinguished analyst with Gartner, Inc. Anne joined Gartner via the acquisition of Burton Group and continues to direct research for the Application Platform Strategies (APS) team in the Burton research division. Anne leads research on application development and delivery strategies, with a specific focus on BPM, SOA, and cloud computing. And Googling Anne will keep you busy for a while, too.

In this interview Thomas and Anne talk about the state of SOA, and about their new book SOA Governance: Governing Shared Services on Premise and in the Cloud, [read an excerpt] co-written with a roster of experts that includes Oracle Enterprise Architect Stephen G. Bennett [LinkedIn | Blog | Twitter], who did an ArchBeat inteview in December 2010 to promote his book Silver Clouds, Dark Linings: A Concise Guide to Cloud Computing, co-authored with Archie Reed.

(All this collaboration just might restore my faith in human nature...)

In the On-Deck Circle

  • A discussion of women in IT architecture with Dr. Helen Sun, Director of Enterprise Architecture at Oracle, and Karina Ishkhanova, system architect with TFA Wise Applications, Inc.
  • An interview with members of Oracle's Fusion Middleware A-team - that's "A" as in "Architecture."
