Continuing on the theme of changes to IT roles brought about by DevOps, cloud computing and other factors..."Has the cloud really revolutionized the way software developers do their jobs?" ServerSide journalist Cameron McKenzie put that question to several experts, and the answer appears to be Yes and No. McKenzie concludes:
"The benefits cloud computing brings to enterprise environments improve productivity, reduce costs and speed up the time to market, but from the view of the actual application developer, has the cloud really impacted the way they perform their jobs on a daily basis? Today, the answer to that question seems to be 'no', although there is no shortage of experts and innovators in the industry that are working hard to shift that 'no' to an unequivocal 'yes' in the next few years."
Of course, that answer doesn't offer a lot of detail on strategies for preparing for when No becomes Yes. Got any ideas?
- What do you want to be when IT grows up?
- Your place in the evolviing IT landscape
- The cloud wants you. Are you ready?
