Podcast Show Notes: 5x12 on 12c - User Forum Mini-Sessions at OOW14

There is a standing invitation for community members to step in as guest host/producer of the OTN ArchBeat Podcast. The guest producer gets to pick the topic for discussion, and the panelists who will do the discussing. The guest producer for the latest program was Oracle ACE Director Debra Lilley. The topic Debra chose for this discussion is an interesting event that will take place as part of the Oracle Users Forum at Oracle OpenWorld on Sunday September 28, 2014.

This event consists of two special sessions:

Each of these sessions is actually a series of five-minute mini-presentations by leading experts on Oracle Database 12c. As Debra explains in the podcast, the idea grew out the very difficult task of choosing among the plethora of excellent proposals for User Group Forum sessions. But don't take my word for it. Listen to the podcast for a much more detailed and far more entertaining explanation.

Joining Debra to explain are the two panelists she chose for this program, Oracle ACE Director Jonathan Lewis, and Oracle ACE Kashif Manzoor.

Podcast Show Notes: Cloud Expert Audience Q & A

The latest OTN ArchBeat Podcast program is a three-part series recorded during a question and answer session at the OTN Architect Day event held at Oracle Headquarters in Redwood Shores California on July 9, 2013. Earlier in the day the audience attended three presentations given by Oracle Cloud Computing experts Dr. James Baty, Anbu Krishnaswamy, and Markus Michalewicz. After those presentations the Q & A session gave the audience a chance to pick the brains of those experts.

In order to provide some context to the Q&A, I suggest you take a moment to review the slide presentations from the event, listed below:

As you'll hear, the first couple of questions refer to Markus’s presentation, which covered the DBaaS implementation at the  Commonwealth Bank of Australia. When Markus mentions "CBA," he's talking about Commonwealth Bank of Australia.

The Panelists

  • Dr. James Baty: Vice President, Oracle Global Enterprise Architecture Program. LinkedIn
  • Anbu Krishnaswamy: Enterprise Architect with the Oracle Global Enterprise Architecture Program (GEAP) group. LinkedIn
  • Markus Michalewicz: Director of Product Management, Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC). LinkedIn

The Conversation

  • Listen to Part 1: The panel responds to questions about lessons learned in the Commonwealth Bank of Australia project, and about recording/reporting usage costs in an IaaS environment.
  • Listen to Part 2: The panel responds to a question about migration paths to Oracle 12c that will accommodate an eventual move to the cloud.
  • Listen to Part 3: When is managing a Cloud ecosystem like playing Sim City?
