Insight and Expertise from the Event that Never Happened

If you were unable to travel to Mexico City last week for the 6th Annual SOA, Cloud, and Service Technology Symposium, don't sweat it. The event never happened, having been canceled thanks to some logistical snafu that, it should be pointed out, had absolutely nothing to do with Thomas Erl's organization, which has successfully put on the event for the past five years in various locations in Europe.

In the lead up to the event that never happened I conducted video interviews four members of the OTN community who were scheduled to present at the symposium. The videos offer a preview of the sessions these individuals were going to present, as well as some background on their work.

So while they never got the chance to present at the 2013 Symposium, you can still get some insight into the topics and technologies they would have discussed by watching these three videos -- all from the comfort of your laptop.

SOA experts Jurgen Kress and Oracle ACE Rolando Carrasco discuss Cloud Service Brokers and talk about the Oracle EMEA Partner Community for Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA)

Andre Boaventura, an Oracle senior product manager focused on Oracle's Cloud Application Foundation products (which include Oracle WebLogic and Oracle Coherence) discusses how to achieve greater responsiveness with BPM.

C2B2 consultant Matt Brasier, co author of the Oracle SOA Suite 11g Performance Tuning Cookbook (2013, Packt Publishing) discusses performance tuning challenges and best practices. (This interview was scheduled before Matt was to appear at the SOA, Cloud, and Service, Technology Symposium, but that event was canceled before the interview, so Matt does not mention it when he talks about upcoming speaking engagements.)

Thought for the Day

"I never am really satisfied that I understand anything; because, understand it well as I may, my comprehension can only be an infinitesimal fraction of all I want to understand about the many connections and relations which occur to me, how the matter in question was first thought of or arrived at, etc., etc."

Ada Lovelace, English mathematician and writer, "often described as the world's first computer programmer."

Thought for the Day

"Just because something has always been done in a certain way is never a sufficient reason for continuing to do it that way. Quite the contrary."

Clarence Birdseye, American inventor, entrepreneur, and naturalist
