The Question Lingers: Who Gets to Be an Architect?

Yesterday a post on this blog (see The Architect as Salesperson) was the catalyst for the following Twitter conversation:

That conversation with @ChadThompson echoed comments I've heard time and again over the last several years in conversations with architects and other IT professionals. In fact, the very issue Chad raises in the last tweet came up in a conversation that occurred in the spring of 2011 when a panel of working IT architects gathered for an OTN ArchBeat podcast to answer the question: Who Gets to Be an Architect?.

That discussion included the following architects:

  • Ron Batra Twitter Blog LinkedIn Oracle ACE Director Profile
  • Bex Huff Twitter Blog LinkedIn Oracle ACE Director Profile
  • Randy Stafford Blog LinkedIn
  • Eric Stephens Twitter Blog LinkedIn

While the discussion in the podcast series is two years old, the issues raised are no less valid today, a situation that is unlikely to change any time soon. If you're an architect, or aspire to be one, take a few minutes to listen to the podcast and then share your thoughts in the comments section.
