Architects and Developers: Part of a System
By Bob Rhubart-Oracle on Aug 14, 2008
I ran across UK-based site called Coding the Architecture that includes Mind the gap, an article that explores the relationship between developers and architects, and the perceived role of the architect:
Our industry has a love/hate relationship with the software architect role, with many organisations dismissing it because of their negative experiences of architects that dictate from "ivory towers" and aren't engaged with the actual task of building working software. This reputation is damaging the IT industry and inhibiting project success. Things need to change.
Like it or not, the relationship between architects and developers can have a far greater impact on the ultimate quality and success of any project than any tool or technology. The inescapable irony is that architects and developers are part of a system that is itself responsible for producing other systems. If the first system isn't working properly, what hope is there for anything it produces?
