The Business Drivers for Fusion Talent Review at Oracle

At Oracle, we believe talent management is more than the way we identify, retain, reward and develop our people; it's how we execute that in line with the organization's current and future business goals. As a result, we've created talent management philosophies, processes, and tools that are relevant across the organization and geographies.

Unfortunately, implementing talent management and maintaining pertinent data has been fairly manual. As the organization has grown and become more complex, we've put greater emphasis on improving our overall organizational capabilities, meeting changing market conditions, and ensuring a full leadership pipeline by integrating talent management as a critical business initiative.

As more of our leaders began making talent management an integral part of their overall people management strategy, we became more aware of several issues with our current talent management process. First, it was a challenge to gather and prepare all the data about the employees in our current, semi-automated system (using a combination of tools ― an older, custom solution developed in E-Business Suite, plus PowerPoint and Excel to track and complete the information).

Second, the talent review board discussion, where we assess, calibrate, and figure out what we want to do, was not a dynamic process. We could compare a person's interests with an opportunity, but only by flipping back to PowerPoint slide #47, for example, which wasn't effective when reviewing 1000's of employees. Finally, we didn't want to just talk about our talent and the roles that might be a fit for them; we wanted to track their progression as well. There is now a drive to identify our talent more broadly (across LOBs) and deeply (cascading it down through the hierarchy) to ensure that we have the skills and capabilities to meet current and future business needs.

In order to take our talent management to the next level and achieve sustainable, strategic success, we needed smarter, integrated technology. Enter Oracle Fusion Talent Review. We had a business need and Oracle had the solution. The powerful, dynamic capabilities of the product made the decision to implement Fusion Talent Review an easy one.
