Virtualbox tip : You can have you cake and eat it!

One of the really annoying features of VMWare that I didnt like was the inability to access the VMWare image when Im connected to Oracle’s Cisco VPN..
Well not the same with Virtualbox…
With virtualbox you can access your VM whilst connected to the Virtualbox VM, how? simples..
1. Use NAT as your network adaptor
2. Configure NAT Port Forwarding for all the ports you require exposed by your VM, e.g. port 7001 for Weblogic Admin Server, port 8888 for say webcenter and port 22 for SSH
3. Whilst VPNd you can access the VM by using the appropriate port, but use 127.0.0.1 as the port.
e.g. http://127.0.0.1:7001/console for Weblogic Server Console
Now admittedly this might be possible with vmware player, but its not something Ive been able to do….
