The Oracle Analytics Cloud 5.6 release focuses on improved user experience, map performance enhancements, extended data connectivity options, and expanded developer controls.

This latest version builds on existing features found in Oracle Analytics Cloud such as machine learning (ML)-powered self-service analytics capabilities for data preparation, discovery, and visualization; intelligent enterprise and ad hoc reporting together with augmented analysis.

Innovative New Visualizations and Increased User Experience

There are dozens of new features and controls in this latest version of Oracle Analytics Cloud. Here are four that spotlight the innovative new visualizations and increased user experience.

  1. Turn Any Image into Insights with Digitized Map Layers

With the 5.6 release, any user can upload any images and easily create custom interactive visuals from them.  Simply create map layers that tie to shapes you draw on your image. Shapes are bound to data interactively, so when you click a part of your image, it acts like any visualization, driving filtering and showing new insights dynamically.  You can visually analyze workflows, manufacturing processes, real-world objects, anything you can screenshot or draw. This feature also extends the capabilities of layering data over existing maps and floor plans for spaces like a retail shop, hospital, school, theatre, or stadium. Augmenting these abstract capabilities like visually mapping out manufacturing processes visually and using that as a filter to further analytics has a myriad of possibilities.

The video below walks through the process of creating map layers on top of the image so that data analytics can be done on any image.



  1. Increase Insights Through New Data Actions

For developers, you can now help users get their answers faster by sending them to existing Business Intelligence (BI) Publisher reports directly from data points in your visuals. Actions can be created for common functions such as Publish Events, Analytics Links, HTTP API, and URL Navigation, and parameters can be passed to filter the result.

Here is a video showing how to use data actions to navigate from a data visualization within a project to a publisher report, while passing relevant context in the form of parameters.



  1. Streamline Data Prep with Regular Expressions (regex)

This release offers you powerful capabilities to clean and prep your data during preparation.  While in the Prepare tab of your project, select a Replace step, then select the regular expression (regex) option. This enables you to perform advanced search, replace, and pattern matching so you can accelerate getting your data ready for analysis.

Here is a video showing the process in action including a densified, single page dataset editor for columns, filters, properties and preview as well as the single click ability to remove columns in preview screens.



  1. Greater Control Over the User Experience

Oracle Analytics Cloud 5.6 offers several enhancements that offer users and developers greater control over their experience, including new controls for maps, waterfall chart colors, and pivot tables, as well as enhanced access control.

The video below walks you through these additional controls, including the ability to resize the row and columns, the ability to modify the standard colors in a waterfall chart, and how to support transparency in a data visualization background configuration.
