Oracle's Point of View on the Magic Quadrant for Business Intelligence and Analytics Platforms 2017

Positive Customer Experience Fuels Strong Growth in Oracle Business Analytics

2016 was a busy year for Oracle Business Analytics products and services.  But the real story of 2016 is about our customers.  Those customers span the globe, represent every major industry, and are modernizing the way they perform analytics in key business functions like sales and financial analysis, customer experience management, market segmentation, and product portfolio management.  Perhaps most exciting, this group largely comprises customers new to Oracle, putting us ahead of many of our competitors in cloud adoption, and offering a balanced view of business benefits to all segments of our target audience.

Many of our customers agreed to participate in the Gartner Magic Quadrant (MQ) survey which we feel is essential input into this evaluation.  We believe that their contribution and comments are what fueled our write-up in this year’s report.  For organizations with access to Gartner research, the Magic Quadrant report can be viewed here.

Oracle’s product strengths are well known to customers, prospects, and the marketplace:

  • Strong hybrid cloud capabilities: A real differentiator, hybrid cloud is what customers with on-premises data and existing implementations want and need.  Oracle’s capabilities are unique in this area.
  • Superior data visualization and analytics that supports a broad range of organization needs:  Our customers report that Oracle’s products look great and are easy to use, and can access data from myriad sources, including Oracle enterprise applications and other sources, either in the cloud and on-premises.
  • A comprehensive platform:  Our capabilities include in-tool data preparation, smart discovery and machine learning, a personalized mobile experience in addition to world-class data visualization, analysis, and reporting.

These strengths are tempered with a few areas of improvement where Oracle must continue to innovate and deliver the best products possible.  Oracle’s placement in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Business Intelligence and Analytics reflects Gartner’s opinion on completeness of vision and ability to execute.  It does not reflect the experience and sentiment of our reference customers and partners, or the rest of our customer base.

There are many competing definitions of what constitutes a BI and Analytics platform.  Our customers have confirmed with us that any comprehensive solution must combine dynamic self-service discovery with enterprise reporting and advanced analytics capabilities to be truly effective.  Oracle’s unique ability to deliver all these capabilities in the Cloud with secure connections to on-premises sources truly differentiates Oracle from other MQ competitors.

We are confident we have the right products at the right time.  Our strategy is clear.  We reaffirm our commitment to our customers and the marketplace as a whole to deliver the most comprehensive portfolio of innovative analytics solutions addressing the broadest set of enterprise and workgroup capabilities for analysts, business leaders and IT professionals.
