New X Test Suite ready for . . . umm, testing

Kevin posted the details yesterday on downloading and running the X Test Suite for people who can help testing the upcoming Xorg 6.9 and 7.0 releases on as many platforms and hardware combinations as possible. If you can help out, please see his message for instructions.

This is also the public debut of the new X Test Suite, which is based on the VSW5 Test Suite which has long been part of the standards compliance certification process for the Unix ® 98 Workstation brand from The Open Group (TOG). Unfortunately, it was only available under a restrictive license before, but in April, the X.Org Foundation announced that TOG and ApTest (who designed the automated testing framework VSW5 uses) had agreed to release it under the MIT/X open source license. The X.Org Test Working Group under Stuart Anderson will be maintaining and enhancing the test suite to expand coverage to many of the newer technologies not currently covered.
